A. SHIKOKU SMILE STATION
JR高松駅の駅舎に、駅のイメージキャラクター、
'たかまつえきちゃん’ (すまいるえきちゃん) の顔がついています。
四国のほとんどの使用駅には、'~ えきちゃん' の顔が駅舎に描かれているそうです。
'すまいるえきちゃん' は、'微笑みの妖精' という設定です。
駅舎にキャラクターが描かれているのが珍しく感じました。
JR四国が人々に電車を使用してもらえるように、努力しているのを感じます。
大都市の交通機関は、効率化を優先しているように感じますが、地方では好印象を作り出すことに力が注がれているように感じます。

SHIKOKU SMILE STATION
The JR Takamatsu Station building features the face of the station's mascot, 'Takamatsueki-chan'.
It seems that most stations in Shikoku that use the station have ' ~ Eki-chan Smile' : '~ Station Smile' face painted on their buildings.
'Smile Eki-chan' is set up as the 'Smiling Fairy'.
It seems that JR Shikoku (Shikoku Railway Company) is making an effort to get people to use its trains.
Transportation in big cities seems to prioritize efficiency, but in rural areas it seems like they're focusing on creating a good impression.

私達が宿泊したのは、 'JRホテルクレメント高松' で、JR高松駅の目の前に立地しています。
翌日、高松港から直島 (ナオシマ)に行くので、高松港の下見をしました。
高松港ついてはのちのセクションに載せます。
昨日、'イサムノグチ庭園美術館'へ行った際に、高松市周辺は、'石の街' であると感じました。
ホテルと駅の間には、その印象を裏付ける石のオブジェが複数設置されていました。

Stone Town
We stayed at the 'JR Hotel Clement Takamatsu', located right in front of JR Takamatsu Station.
Takamatsu-Chikko Station on the Kotoden (Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad) is also just a five-minute walk from Takamatsu Port.
We were heading to Naoshima from Takamatsu Port the next day, so we scouted out the area.
I'll write about Takamatsu Port in a later section.
Yesterday, when we visited the 'Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum',
I felt that the area around Takamatsu City was a 'town of stone'.
There were several stone sculptures installed between the hotel and the station, which confirmed this impression.

| 快速サンポート・多度津行き （予讃線・'サンポート・南風リレー号' 多度津行き） 高松駅 5番線 9:04発 → 丸亀駅9:30着 私たちは、丸亀駅 (マルガメエキ)に降りましたが、 電車は多度津駅まで行きます。 多度津駅で特急'南風' (ナンプウ) と接続しているので、 '南風リレー号' の愛称があるようです。 Rapid Service Sunport Bound for Tadotsu Takamatsu Station Platform 5 Departs at 9:04 → Arrives at Marugame Station at 9:30 We got off at Marugame Station, but the train continued on to Tadotsu Station. It connects with the limited express 'Nanpū' at Tadotsu Station, so it's nicknamed the 'Nanpū Relay'.  多度津駅について 多度津駅 (タドツエキ) は、香川県仲多度郡 (ナカタドグン) 多度津町 (タドツチョウ栄町三丁目にあります。 多度津駅案内パネルのコメントは 「四国鉄道と少林寺拳法発祥の駅」。 少林寺拳法 (ショウリンジケンポウ) が、 日本で生まれたとは知りませんでした。 中国発祥だと思ってました。 About Tadotsu Station Tadotsu Station is located in Sakaemachi 3-chome, The Tadotsu Station information panel says : "The station where Shikoku Railway and Shorinji Kempo originated." I had no idea that Shorinji Kempo (one of the Japanese martial arts) originated in Japan. I had thought it originated in China.  車両 : JR四国7200系: ★ この型は、カーブが連続する区間を安全に走行します。 下記、Wikiより "「優れた技術を継承するとともに現在の特急車両としての技術や 設備を備えた完成度の高い車両であること」 が評価され、第60回ローレル賞を受賞した。" Vehicle : JR Shikoku 7200 Series This model runs safely through sections with continuous curves. According to Japanese Wiki, "It was awarded the 60th Laurel Award for being 'a highly refined train that inherits excellent technology while also incorporating the technology and facilities of modern express trains'." |
関東圏に住む私には珍しい、車体の色の配色に感じました。
後になって、Wiki の説明(下記)を読んで、その意味を知りました。
配色について、Wikiより
"本車両が岡山県・香川県と徳島県・高知県を結ぶ特急列車に充当されることから、徳島県の阿波踊りや高知県のよさこい祭りの情熱を表したディープレッドをベースに吉兆の伝統配色である「赤」と「金」を配する一方で、新たに香川特産のオリーブや岡山のマスカットをイメージしたグリーンのラインをそれぞれ配色している"
英語のWikiでは、その配色を"Neo Japonism"と説明しています。
As someone living in the Kanto region, I found the colour scheme of the train unusual.
Later, I read the explanation on Wiki, below and learned its meaning.
Regarding the colour scheme, from Japanese Wiki :
"Because this train will be used for express trains connecting Okayama and Kagawa prefectures with Tokushima and Kochi prefectures, the deep red base, which represents the passion of Tokushima's Awa Dance and Kochi's Yosakoi Festival, is accented with the traditional auspicious color scheme of red and gold.
New green lines are added, evoking Kagawa's specialty olives and Okayama's Muscat grapes."
The English Wiki describes the colour scheme as "Neo Japonism".

空、雲、山の形、畑の全てが、のんびりとしたものに感じられました。
私がそのように感じられるのは、私達が通勤でなく、休暇として電車を利用しているということだけではないでしょう。
The sky, the clouds, the shape of the mountains, the fields, everything felt laid-back.
I don't think it's just because we're using the train for our vacation, not for work, that I feel that way.
2) 丸亀駅 / Marugame Station

| 丸亀駅到着: 9:30 ホームから、丸亀市猪熊弦一郎現代美術館 (マルカメシ イノクマ ゲンイチロウ ゲンダイビジュツカン) : MIMOCA（ミモカ）の建物が見えました。 美術館は駅から徒歩3分の立地です。 猪熊弦一郎 (イノクマ ゲンイチロウ / 1902 - 1993) は、 昭和の洋画家で、香川県庁舎などの壁画が有名です。 英語表記は、Gen'ichirō Inokuma。 (Genichiro は、'ゲニチロ' と読めてしまうので、その表記になったと思います) 彼は、少年期を丸亀市で過ごしました。 Arriving at Marugame Station : 9:30 From the platform, I could see the Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art (MIMOCA) building. The museum is located a three-minute walk from the station. Gen'ichirō Inokuma (1902 - 1993) was a Western-style painter from the Showa period, famous for his murals on the Kagawa Prefectural Office and other buildings. He spent his childhood in Marugame City. |

"The building's flowing facade gently connects the station plaza and the interior space.
The exterior of the station plaza and museum was designed by a landscape designer Peter Walker (1932 ~ ), a professor at Harvard University (who later designed the gardens of the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art)."

との助⾔があった。
それがＪＲの⾼架化に合わせて丸⻲駅前の市街地再開発の事業と合致し、全国で初めてといわれる「ＪＲ駅前の美術館」の試みが誕⽣し、建設計画が始まる"
"To mark the 90th anniversary of the city's founding, the city sought the cooperation of oil painter Genichiro Inokuma, who has close ties to Marukame City, in building an art museum, a long-standing public desire.
Inokuma advised,
'The museum should be located in the middle of the town where the city's residents live their daily lives, and serve as a place of relaxation and interaction for the people.'
This idea coincided with the urban redevelopment project in front of Marukame Station, which was being carried out in conjunction with the elevated JR line.
This led to the birth of the first "art museum in front of a JR station" in the country, and construction planning began."
