香川県高松市に来て、3日め、MIMOCAへ行きました。
正式名は、丸亀市猪熊弦一郎現代美術館 : ★ (HP)
(マルカメシ イノクマ ゲンイチロウ ゲンダイビジュツカン)、
(マルカメシ イノクマ ゲンイチロウ ゲンダイビジュツカン)、
愛称は、: MIMOCA（ミモカ）です。
この美術館は、今回の 'アートの旅' で、最初の方から行きたいと思った美術館でした。
ですが、高松から電車で移動する場所だったので、予定に組み込むには、一日を費やさなくてはなりませんでした。
その一日を予定に組み込むために、私なりに四苦八苦し、やっと実現できました。
猪熊 弦一郎 (イノクマ ゲンイチロウ / 1902 - 1993) は、昭和の洋画家で、香川県庁東館などの壁画 (陶画) が有名で、少年期を丸亀市で過ごしました。
香川県庁東館の壁画については下記。
私が彼を知ったのは、2022年に世田谷美術館で開催されていた
下記、"美術家たちの沿線物語展"について。
その展覧会のブログを書くにあたり、猪熊 弦一郎をリサーチし、
香川県庁舎東館にある彼の壁画や、猪熊弦一郎現代美術館のことを知りました。
そのときから、いつか機会があったなら、その壁画を見てみたいし、猪熊弦一郎現代美術館にも行ってみたいと思っていたのです。
(Genichiro は、'ゲニチロ' と読めてしまうので、その表記になったと思います)

On our third day in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, we visited MIMOCA.
On our third day in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, we visited MIMOCA.
Its official name is the Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art, and its nickname is MIMOCA (HP: ★).
This museum was one of the first ones I wanted to visit on this 'Art Trip'.
However, since it was a train ride from Takamatsu, I would have had to dedicate a whole day to fit it into my schedule.
I struggled a lot to fit that whole day into our schedule, but I finally made it happen.
I found about him at "Artists Along the Railway Lines : Ōimachi Line, Meguro Line and Tōyoko Line" Exhibition held in the Setagaya Art Museum in 2022.

In order to write my blog about the exhibition, I researched Genichiro Inokuma and found about the murals in the Kagawa Prefectural
Government Office East Building and
Gen'ichirō Inokuma (1902 - 1993) was a Western-style painter
from the Showa period, famous for his murals (ceramics) on the Kagawa Prefectural Government Office East Building and spent his childhood in Marugame City.

B. 建物 / Building
建築設計は、谷口吉生 (タニグチヨシオ/ 1937 - 2024)です。
BCS賞とは、建築の事業企画、計画・設計、施工、環境及び建築物の運用・維持管理等に関する総合評価をし、建築主・設計者・施工者の3者を表彰します。
MIMOCAの場合は、
建築主：丸亀市、
設計者 : 谷口吉生、
施工者：鹿島建設
が表彰されました。

谷口吉生の名前は、金沢の鈴木大拙館 (スズキダイセツカン) を訪れた時に知りました。
私が興味をもった違った場所で知ったアーティストと建築家が、ともに作ったMIMOCAを訪れ、なにかしらのつながりを感じました。
今の私に必要ななにかが、そこにあるのかな〜と感じました。
Building
The architectural design was by Yoshio Taniguchi (1937-2024).
The museum building won a star at the 34th BCS Awards in 1993, and was selected as one of the 100 Best Public Buildings in Japan in 1998.
The BCS Awards are awarded to the client, designer, and contractor based on a comprehensive evaluation of the architectural project's business planning, planning/design, construction, environment, and building operation/maintenance.
In the case of MIMOCA, the award went to client Marugame City, designer Yoshio Taniguchi, and contractor Kajima Corporation.
According to about "100 Best Public Buildings" from Japanese Wiki,

"The 100 Best Public Buildings were selected by a selection committee on September 25, 1998, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of Construction (now the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism).
The 100 best public buildings were announced on October 14 of the same year."

When we visited the D. T. Suzuki Daisetsu Museum in Kanazawa,
I found about the name of Yoshio Taniguchi
I visited MIMOCA, which was created by the artist and the architect
I knew of them in a different place that sparked my interest, and felt a connection.
I had been interested in both the artist and the architect, so
I wondered if I might be given something here.

日本でも、設計コンペティションはありますが、こういった流れで、大きな建物の建築家を選ばれることは日本ではないように思います。
MOMAの建築部チーフキュレーターが、派閥や名声 (獲得した賞など)、人種にとらわれず、自分の目を通して建築家を選ぶ姿勢が素晴らしいと思います。
そして、実際に日本まで、丸亀市まで来て、自分の目で確かめることもすごいです！
選ばれた谷口氏も素晴らしい！
According to 'CASA FELICE' in Japanese, ( translated by me)
"Taniguchi later designed a large-scale expansion and renovation of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and it seems that MIMOCA was actually the catalyst for this.
In 1993, the chief curator of MoMA's architecture department made an unannounced visit to MIMOCA, praising its facade, spaciousness, and relationship to the surrounding city, and asking who the architect was.
In preparation for a large-scale expansion and renovation, MoMA was selecting architects to invite to take part in a design competition, based solely on their architectural designs, regardless of their fame.
Apparently, the chief curator visited after seeing a small photograph of MIMOCA in the New York Times.
As a result, Taniguchi was selected as one of the 10 architects from the world to take part in the competition.
The selection process for choosing MoMA's designer involved first and second rounds of selection, a site visit by the judging committee, and a lengthy final interview with MoMA executives and architects before Taniguchi was chosen."
There are design competitions in Japan as well, however, I don't think architects for large buildings are selected in this way in Japan.
I think it's great that MoMA's Chief Curator of Architecture chose architects with his own eyes, without being bound by affiliation, fame (such as awards won), or race.
It's also amazing that he actually came all the way to Japan, to Marugame City, to see the architecture with his own eyes!
I'm also impressed by Taniguchi, who was chosen!

私は、ピーター・ウォーカー氏が設計した '美術館の外構' とは、
'ゲートプラザ' と名付けられた場所であると理解しています。

"The building's flowing facade gently connects the station square and the interior space.
The exterior of the museum and the station were designed by a landscape designer Peter Walker (1932 ~ ), a professor at Harvard University (who later designed the gardens of the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art in Aichi Prefecture)."
I understand that the 'exterior of the museum' designed by Peter Walker is an area called 'Gate Plaza'.

| "シェルの詩 (ウタ)" 巻貝から海の音が聞こえるとか、曲がきこえるとかという発想は ロマンチックなものですが、このオブジェからは、 ロマンチックな印象を持ちません。 "Shell's Poem" The idea of hearing the sound of the ocean or music coming from a conch shell is a romantic one, however, this object does not give off a romantic impression. |

| '夜の女王のアリア' このオブジェから放出される詩(歌)は、 "オペラ魔笛"・'夜の女王のアリア ; 復讐の炎は地獄のように我が心に燃え' のような力強いものであるように感じます。 私の音楽に関する知識の乏しさがあり、'夜の女王のアリア''を 私は連想しますが、音楽に関して豊富な知識をもっている方 ならば、ほかの楽曲を連想されるかもしれません。 '黒' という色からもはっきりした主張と夜を感じます。 そばにあるオブジェが、"星座" であることからも夜を 喚起させられます。  'Queen of the Night Aria' The poetry emanating from this object seems powerful, like the 'Queen of the Night aria : Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen : "Hell's Vengeance Boils in My Heart' ' from the opera "The Magic Flute". Due to my limited knowledge of music, I associate it with the 'Queen of the Night's Aria', however, those with a greater knowledge of music may associate it with other pieces. The colour black also gives a clear statement and a sense of night. The object next to it, the 'Constellation', also evokes the night. |

前日に、高松市内の 'まちのシューレ923カフェ' へ行きました。
そのカフェは、この旅行の検索中に見つけ、予約をとり、ランチをとった場所でした。
高松市内の 'まちのシューレ923カフェ'については下記。
MIMOCAのカフェも、'まちのシューレ923カフェ' が経営していることを、現地で知りました。
私は、こんな偶然の繋がりが好きですし、嬉しくも感じます。

The day before, we visited 'Machi no Schule 923 Cafe' in Takamatsu City.
I had found this cafe while researching for this trip, made a reservation, and we had lunch there.

I love these kinds of coincidental connections and feel happy about them.

| ランチセット Rは、食べることができない食材が複数あります。 前日の 'まちのシューレ923カフェ' でのランチは、 ずいぶん前から予約をし、また、彼の食材の問題を伝えて あったので、彼もランチセットを食べることできていました。 が、ここは、飛び込みでしたので、彼はこのランチは 食べられませんでした。 彼は、目玉焼きのせのトースト (下の写真) を食べました。 これはメニューにはなく、彼のために作っていただきました。 ありがとうございました。 Lunch Set R has several ingredients that he can't eat. I had made a reservation for lunch at 'Machi no Schule 923 Cafe' the previous day well in advance and had informed them of his ingredient issues, so he was able to eat the lunch set. However, since this was a walk-in, he was unable to eat from the menu. He had toast with a fried egg on top below. This wasn't on the menu, but they made it just for him. Thank you so much.  |

'カスカードプラザ' は、カフェと同じ3階にあります。
カフェのガラスの壁：'カーテンウォール(帳壁、幕壁)'または'ガラスブロック'を通して、'カスカードプラザ' を見ることができます。

Cascade Plaza
Cascade Plaza is located on the same floor as the cafe, the third floor.
Cascade Plaza can be seen through the cafe's glass walls : curtain walls or glass blocks.
According to MIMOCA website about Cascade,
"Rooftop area up the Main Staircase on the 3F, containing various art objects including a soothing water feature.
When life gets you down, come here, look up at the sky and listen to the sound of falling water – it may just be the tonic you need."
According to Japanese Wiki about cascade, (translated by me)
"The original meaning of cascade in French is a series of small waterfalls.
In the field of architecture, it refers to an artificial waterfall.
It is also used in various fields as a derived word to mean something continuous or connected in a daisy chain.
In Japanese, cascade is mainly used in this derived way."

1~3階まで続いている '大階段' を下りて、美術館に入館しました。
私のブログ内のMIMOCAについてのセクションは複数で、いくつかの点が重複します。

We entered the museum by descending the 'Main Staircase' that leads from the ground floor to the second floor.
There are multiple sections on MIMOCA in my blog, with some overlap.
The next section is about 'Space'.
