1) コッツウォルズの旅 / Cotswolds Trip
私と夫Rは、スタッフォードシャー州、リッチフィールド から、グロスターシャー州 にある、ヒドコート・マナー・ガーデン へ向かいました。
リッチフィールドは、Rの同窓会のために行きました。
ヒドコート・マナー・ガーデンは、コッツウォルズに含まれます。
コッツウォルズは、今までに、ボートン＝オン＝ザ＝ヒル、バイブリー、カースル・クーム、レーコック / Lacock などを訪ねています。

Cotswolds Trip
I and my husband R went to Hidcote Manor Garden in Gloucestershire from Lichfield,
We visited Lichfield for R's reunion.
The Hidcote Manor Garden is part of the Cotswolds.
We have visited Bourton-on-the-Hill, Bibury, Castle Combe, Lacock and more which are part of the Cotswolds.

広く、たくさんの見所があります。
いくつか英国のマナー・ハウス・ガーデンやお城の庭を見てきたので、
いくつかの場所では、これはどこかで見た風景と
似ているという印象を持ちました。
その中で、珍しい風景は、南北に伸びるロング・ウオーク (下の画像) でした。

It is wide and has many highlights.
I've seen some British Manor House Gardens and Castles Gardens,
so in some places I have the impression that this is similar
to what I saw somewhere.
Among them, a rare scene was "Long Walk", extending north to south, below.

The "Beech Allêe" is also wonderful.
Actually, I prefer this one.

マナー・ハウス
マナー・ハウス / Manor House は、中世ヨーロッパの荘園領主の屋敷です。
'地方にある大きなお屋敷'というイメージが私にはあります。
ヒドコードの場合は、アメリカに住んでいたローレンス・ジョンストンが
前オーナーからここを購入しました。
ジョンストンは、1907年に引っ越しをし、彼の母親は1908年にやってきました。
その後、彼らは彼ら好みに家を増築、改築しました。
ジョンストンは英国のガーデンを学び、
それを実践して、素晴らしい庭を作りました。
彼は将来を見据え、1948年にナショナル・トラストに家と庭を売却しました。
現在では、ナショナル・トラストがここを運営する期間が
彼の時代よりも長くなっています。
Manor House
Manor House is the mansion house of a medieval European manor.
I have the image of "a large mansion in a rural area".
In the case of Hidcote, Lawrence Johnston, who lived in the US,
bought here from a former owner.
Johnston moved here in 1907 and his mother came in 1908.
After that, they extended and rebuilt the house to their liking.
Johnston learned about English gardening
and put this into practice to create amazing gardens.
Looking to the future, he sold the house and gardens to the National Trust in 1948.
Today, the National Trust has been managing here
for a longer period of time than he did.

この日、バース/ Bathの宿泊所へ行かなくてはならなかったので、時間が心配で、私達は屋敷の中へは入りませんでした。
We had to go to the accommodation in Bath this day, so we weren't able to enter the Manor House because of time concerns.

大きな藁葺き屋根が見えます。
藁葺き屋根が好きなので、そばまで行きたいと思いましたが、 その道を見つけられませんでした。 もしかしたら、ナショナル・トラストの敷地外なのかもしれません。
You can see the big thatched roof.
I like thatched roofs, so I wanted to go to the side,
I couldn't find the way.
Maybe it's off the premises of the National Trust.

多くの人々が訪れていますが、広いので、
庭で混み合うようなことはありません。 この状態は、ほとんどの英国の庭で同様です。 ただし、チェルシー・フラワーショーやハンプトンコート・フラワーショー などの催し物は混み合います。
Here is visited by a lot of people, but because it's large,
it's not crowded in the garden.
This situation is similar in most English gardens in Britain.
However, events such as the Chelsea Flower Show
and the Hampton Court Flower Show are crowded.

こんな景色も好き！ / I also like these sceneries!
家が風景の中にあると、庭であることを感じますが
家がないと野原のようです。
When the house is in the landscape, it feels like a garden,
but without a house it's like a field.

案内板 (道しるべ) の横の根元が怪獣の足のようです。
To the side of "Long Walk" is "Wilderness".
The base next to the information board (signpost) looks like a monster's foot.

岩の庭の先からの景色
何も境を示すものが見えないので、
何故羊が庭へ入ってこないのか不思議に思います。
実は、羊達のいる場所と庭の間には、''ハハ" と呼ばれる溝があります。 一部、柵で仕切られている場所もあります。
この方法はマナーハウスの庭ではよく使用されているように思います。
View from the tip of the Rock Garden
I don't see any borders, so I wondered why sheep don't enter the garden.
In fact, there is a ditch called a 'Haha' between the sheep and the garden.
There are some areas that are separated by fences.
I think this method is often used in manor house gardens.

| なんて事のない写真ですが、平和な感じがして、私は好きです。 中心にある木々が寄り添うように見えます。 これが安心感をもたらすのかもしれません。 It ’s a photograph of nothing in particular, though it feels peaceful and I like it. The trees in the centre look as if they cuddle close together. This may give me a sense of security. |
