散策
夫Rの大学の同窓会が、英国のスタッフォードシャーにある、
1泊2日、リッチフィールドで過ごしました。
2日目の朝、リッチフィールド を離れる前に、街を散策しました。
Walk
My husband R's old boys and old girls university association reunion was held in Lichfield, Staffordshire, Britain.
The association was planned for 2 nights and 3 days,
but we participated halfway and spent 1 night and 2 days in Lichfield.
On the morning of the second day,
we took a walk around the city before leaving Lichfield.
 私達が歩いた場所 は、この地域の半分くらいです。 We walked in about half of the area. |
2) 国家遺産 / National Heritage
リッチフィールドには、英国の国家遺産リストに記録されている244の建物があります。
リストの資料に写真がなく、アドレスのみの場合は、私が判断がつかないので、
"4) 街並み / Streets" の項に入れます。
If there are no photograph in the list material but only the addresses, I can't judge them, so I put it in the "4) Streets" section.

Dr Milley's Hospital : ★
ドクター・ミレー・ホスピタルは、女性のための私立救貧院です。
1424年にヘイワース司教によって設立されました。
英国指定建造物 / Listed Building の2級(の上級) /グレードIIです。
Dr Milley's Hospital is an almshouse for women.
It was founded by Bishop Heyworth in 1424.
It is a Glade II Listed Building.

エラズマス・ダーウィンの家
英国の医師で、自然哲学者、生理学者、奴隷貿易廃止論者、
発明家、詩人でもありました。
ロバート・ダーウィン (1766 -1848)の父で
チャールズ・ダーウィ ン(1809 -1882)の祖父にあたります。
Erasmus Darwin House
Erasmus Darwin (1731 – 1802) was a British physician,
a natural philosopher, physiologist, slave-trade abolitionist, inventor and poet.
He was the father of Robert Darwin (1766 -1848)
and a grandfather of Charles Darwin (1809 -1882).
 1758年頃建造。 英国指定建造物の1級 /グレードI です。 It was built c1758. It is a Glade I Listed Building.  窓辺の彫像がこわい！ Scary statue on the windowsill ! |

7 The Close
15世紀の建物で、イギリス指定建造物 2級(の上級) です。
リッチフィールド大聖堂周辺のクロース通り / The Close)と ベーコン通りの角にあります。 クロース通りには、他に複数の英国指定建造物があります。
It is a building of the 15th century and
is a Glade II Listed Building.
The house is on the corner of the road around Lichfield Cathedral : "the Close"
and Bacon Street.
There are a few other listed buildings on the Close.

1856年建造
旧公共図書館、アートギャラリー。Lichfield Registration Office
It was built in 1856.
Previously it was a Public Library, Art Gallery  ビーコン公園 / Beacon Park の入り口に建っています。 It is located at the entrance of Beacon Park. |

The Swan
"The Swan"は、16世紀の建物で、馬車宿 / Coaching Innでした。
現在は、馬車宿ではないけれでも、ホテルになっています。
リスト登録・2級です。
"The Swan", a 16th century building was a Coaching Inn.
Currently, though it is not a Coaching Inn, it is a hotel.
Grade II listed.
1732年頃にはリッチフィールドは醸造所として機能し、
18箇所の宿泊所がありました。
運送業の駅馬車はこの産業を後押し、
ロンドンおよび他の地域と接続され、発展しました。
The Swan やThe George (下の画像) は今日でも宿泊所として利用されています。

King's Head Public House
21 Bird Street
18世紀半ばから後半に建てられ、最初は馬車宿 のちに、パブになりました。
ジョージアン様式で、3階建てです。
リスト登録・2級です。
Built in the mid to late 18th century, it was Coaching Inn, later a pub.
It is Georgian style and has three floors.
Grade II listed.

このスタイルの建物は人気に感じます。
簡略されたデザインで、建物全体、もしくは一部で、
今もって英国でも日本でも見られます。
リスト登録・2級(の上級)です。
左隣の建物: Donegal House (下の画像)もリスト入りしています。
Building in the early 16th Century.
This style building feels popular.
With a simplified design, the style can be found in whole or parts of buildings,
still in Britain and Japan.
Grade II listed.
The building on the left is Donegal House, below.

16世紀後半から17世紀前半(推測）
後に他の目的に使用された5つの家の列は、
1960年代にレンガとコンクリートに広範囲の修復と改造が施された、
木造の骨組みです。
屋根はタイル張りで、2階で5つの切妻屋根があります。
入り口はコンクリートの柱と梁の後ろに埋め込まれています。
2階の窓は両開きです。
Late 16th to early 17th century (estimated)
A row of five houses, later used for other purposes,
they are timber framed, with extensive restoration
and alterations in brick and concrete in the 1960s.
The roof is tiled, there are two storeys and five gabled bays.
The entrances are recessed behind concrete posts and beams,
and the windows in the upper floor are casements.
"リレイズ / Riley's"という果物と野菜のお店担っています。
殆どのお店が閉まっている朝の時間にここは開いていました。
It's a fruit and vegetable shop called "Riley's".
It was open in the morning when most of the other shops were closed. |

16世紀後期 (推定)の建物、可愛いですね。
私は漆喰(プラスター)や化粧漆喰の壁、好きです。
リスト登録・2級です。
The building from the late 16th Century (estimated) is cute, isn't it?

3) サミュエル・ジョンソン / Samuel Johnson
サミュエル・ジョンソン / Samuel Johnson (1709 - 1784) は、リッチフィールドに生まれ、"英語辞典 / A Dictionary of the English Language 」" (1755年）の編集で知られています。
"オックスフォード英国人名事典" では、ジョンソンを
"間違いなく英語史上最も著名な文学者"
と表現しています。

Samuel Johnson (1709 - 1784) was born in Lichfield and was known for editing the "A Dictionary of the English Language" (1755).
The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography express Johnson as
"arguably the most distinguished man of letters in English history".

The home of Samuel Johnson's birthplace is his museum.
It was originally a house and book shop, and later his museum and a book shop
It is in Georgian style, with three storeys.
  The entrance to the museum is on the market street side and you cannot enter from here. |

| The Pig Lichfield : ★ 前日の晩のRの同窓会は、このパブでしました。 メンバーが素敵で優しい方々でした。 食事もビールも美味しくいただきました。 ありがとうございました。 R's reunion of the night before was in this pub. The members were lovely and kind. The food and beer were delicious. Thank you very much. |

"Devo-Tea"はサミュエルジョンソン生誕地博物館の隣にあります。
"Devo-Tea" is next to Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum. 私が撮影した時は開店前でした。 This is a well-received tea room. It was before they opened when I photographed  店名は語呂遊びで名付けられています。 'Devotee' is an English word, which means enthusiast, fan, so the shop name is pun. |

ミンスターピール(下のマップ③)の北に、
② Garden of Remembrance / 追悼の庭園があり、
バード通りを挟んだ向かいに、① ビーコン公園 / Beacon Parkがあります。

There is a Garden of Remembrance Garden (map ②, below)
in the north of Minster Peel ; ③ ,
and Beacon Park ; ① is across the street from Bird Street.

| 気持ち良さそうな公園です。 ですが、私達はホテルの朝食前に歩いているので、 公園を歩くほどの時間に余裕がありませんでした。 It seems to be the comfortable park. However, we didn't have enough time to walk in the park because we were walking before breakfast at the hotel.  |

| 門のライオンの像に興味が惹かれました。 中へははいりませんでした。 I was interested in the lion statues at the gate. We didn't go inside. |
ホテルへ戻り、同窓会のメンバーと朝食をとりました。
その後、私達は、メンバーと別れ、リッチフィールドを離れ、
ヒドコート・マナー・ガーデン / Hidcote Manor Garden へ向かいました。
We returned to our hotel and had breakfast with the members of the reunion.
After that, we parted from the members and left Lichfield for the Hidcote Manor Garden.
