1) マーシャン / Martian

私が 柳 宗理 (ヤナギソウリ / 1915 - 2011) を知ったのは、多摩美の学生だったときでした。

それは今から、ずっとずっと前のことです。

多摩美に通うために故郷の桐生を離れ、東京へ出ました。

当時、姉も東京に住んでいたので、姉 : Y の部屋に一緒に住みました。

 Yはすでに社会人でしたが、大学時代と同じアパートに住んでいました。

 Yの出た大学までは徒歩で10分以内の場所でしたが、私は、八王子の多摩美の校舎まで、片道2時間、往復4時間を費やしていました。

アパートにはお風呂がなく、銭湯へ行かなくてはなりませんでした。

 Yと暮らせるという以外のメリットは、私には何もありませんでした。

ですが、そこで1つの楽しみができました。

とってもチキンサラダの美味しいレストランを見つけたのです。

白いシンプルな店構えで、店内も白木と白い壁の画廊のようなレストランでした。

そのレストランで使用されていたカトラリー (当時そんな言葉も知りませんでした) が、柳 宗理のものでした。

けれども、そのときは柳 宗理デザインとは認識していず、宇宙人のようなマークがついたカトラリーという認識でした。

 Yが結婚することによって、彼女はそのアパートを出ました。

通学にデメリットが大きなそのアパートから、私は自分の大学近くのお風呂付きのアパートへ引っ越しできました。

とても快適なアパートでした。

ただただ、あのレストランに行けなくなったことが残念でした。

宇宙人のようなマークがついたカトラリーが柳 宗理のものであったと知ったのは随分あとのことです。

もしかしたら、大学卒業後であったかもしれません。

そして、今、その宇宙人のマークが、'マーシャン' という名で、

佐藤商事のシンボルマークであることを知りました。

2022年9月10日、柳宗理デザイン研究所に、金沢在住の友人、

Sちゃんと行きました。

このブログのためにリサーチし、'マーシャン' を見つけ、懐かしい日々を思い出しました。

ちなみに、もう、そのレストランはありません。

Martian

I first found about Sōri Yanagi  (1915 - 2011) when I was in a student in Tama Art University.

That was a long, long time ago.

I left my hometown of Kiryu and came to Tokyo to attend the University.

At that time, my older sister was also living in central Tokyo, so we lived together in Y's room.

Y was already working, but she lived in the same apartment as when she was in university.

It was less than a 10-minute walk to her university where Y graduated, but I spent two hours one way and four hours round trip to my university in Hachioji.

The apartment didn't have a bath, so I had to go to a public bath.

There were no benefits for me other than being able to live with my sister.

But there was one thing I enjoyed.

I found a restaurant serving a very delicious chicken salad.

The restaurant had a simple white appearance, and the inside was like a gallery with plain wood and white walls.

The restaurant used cutlery (I didn't even know that word, cutlery at that time), which was designed by Sori Yanagi.

However, at that time, I didn't recognize it as a design by Sori Yanagi, but rather a cutlery with an alien-like mark.

When Y got married she left the apartment.

I was able to move from that apartment, which was a big disadvantage for commuting, to an apartment with a bath near my university.

It was a very comfortable apartment.

It was just a pity that I couldn't go to that restaurant.

It wasn't long before I found out that the cutlery, with alien-like marks, was designed by Sori Yanagi.

Maybe it was after graduating from my university.

And recently, I found that the alien's mark is the symbol mark of 

SATOSHOJI company,  named 'Martian'.

On September 10th, 2022, I went to Sori Yanagi Design Institute with my friend S Chan who lives in Kanazawa.

I researched for this blog, found 'Martian', and remembered good old days.

Unfortunately, the restaurant no longer exists.

2) 柳宗理デザイン研究所 

    Yanagi Sori Design Memorial 

数年前に、柳宗理デザイン研究所 : ★を夫Rと訪ねました。

彼は、私が柳 宗理デザインのキッチン用品をすでに持っていたことや、東京の日本民藝館(ニホンミンゲイカン)も訪ねていたので、

柳 宗理についてはいくらか知っていました。

彼も、柳 宗理デザインが結構好きです。

今回は、Sちゃんと柳宗理デザイン研究所を訪ねました。

そこで、商品を買うわけでもないし、そこには、目新しいものはそれほどないけれど、その場は、居心地がよく、心が満足しました。

Sちゃんは、柳宗理デザインは、それほど気に入っているようには見えませんでしたが、私におつきあいして、ここにきてくれました。

Sちゃん、どうも、ありがとう！

Yanagi Sori Design Memorial 

I visited Yanagi Sori Design Memorial with my husband R a few years ago.

He knew something of Sori Yanagi, because I already had Sori Yanagi-designed kitchen utensils, and he had also visited the Japanese Folk Crafts Museum in Tokyo.

He also quite likes Sori Yanagi's designs.

This time, I visited Yanagi Sori Design Memorial with S Chan.

I didn't buy anything there, and there wasn't much new there, but I felt comfortable and satisfied.

S Chan didn't seem to like Sori Yanagi's designs that much, but she knows me and she came here.

3) 泉鏡花記念館 

     Kyōka Izumi Memorial Hall

泉鏡花記念館
柳宗理デザイン研究所の裏口から出ると
泉鏡花記念館 (イズミキョウカキネンカン : ★) があります。
なぜここに？と疑問が湧きます。
何か、柳宗理と関係が？
実は、ここは泉 鏡花 (1873 - 1939)の生家跡でした。
実際の生家は火災で失っています。
その地にあった邸宅を増築・改修して、1999年に記念館が開館されました。
私は、泉 鏡花の作品を読んだことがないと思います。

Kyōka Izumi Memorial Hall

When we come out of the back door of 

Yanagi Sori Design Memorial, 

We found Kyōka Izumi Memorial Hall.

Why was this here? I had a question.

Something about Sori Yanagi's relationship...?

In fact, this was the birthplace of Kyōka Izumi (1873 - 1939).

The original home was destroyed in a fire.

The memorial hall was opened in 1999 

by expanding and renovating the mansion on the site.

I don't think I've read Kyōka Izumi's work.

私達は、ランチを食べに、森八本店へ向かいました。

We headed to Morihachi Honten : Morihachi Main Shop for our lunch.

母を迎えに姉Yと桐生へ行きました。

実家へ一泊、久ぶりに母娘揃って夕飯を取りました。

夕飯の食材は、ヤオコーと言うスーパーマーケットで買いました。

私達が幼い頃にはなかったお店です。

日頃、目にしない食材などがあり、楽しめます。

日本でも海外でも、違うスーパーマーケットを訪れることは、面白いものだと思います。

Supermarket 

I went to Kiryu with my sister Y to pick up our mother.

We stayed overnight at our mother's house and had dinner together for the first time in a while.

We bought the ingredients for dinner at a supermarket called Yaoko.

The supermarket was not there when we were children.

I can enjoy the ingredients there that I don't usually see.

I think it's interesting to visit different supermarkets both in Japan and abroad.

大きさにびっくり！
自然薯 (山芋)は実際は、通常、
切り分けた状態で販売されているので、
こんなに大きいのだと初めて知りました。
魚の切り身が売られていて、元の姿を知らずに食べているのと
似ているように思います。

Big!

I was surprised by the size!

For the first time, I found that 

Yamaimo (Japanese Mountain Yam) is so big,

because it is usually sold in cut sections.

I think it's similar to seeing sliced fish for sale and eating

without knowing what they were originally.

えのきは、私が見る通常の倍のサイズで売られています。
キノコ好きの私は、こちらの方が嬉しいな〜！
けれども、夫Rがキノコが嫌いなので、日常生活では
なかなか食べられないのです。
晩に、お鍋にたくさん入れて食べました！

Double?

Enoki (mushrooms) are sold in twice the normal size I see.

I like mushrooms, so I'm more glad about this one!

However, my husband R doesn't like mushrooms, 

so I can't eat them in my d aily life.

In the evening, I put a lot in our 'Nabe'(Japanese hot pot )

 and ate!

オレンジ カリフラワー (オレンジブーケ)
オレンジ カリフラワーが売られてるところを初めて見ました。
普通の白いカリフラワーは、葉を蕾の被せて日に当てず
育てられています。
オレンジ カリフラワーは、蕾葉を隠さず日にあて、
その後も日の光の中で育てます。
色のほかにあまり差異は内容ですがオレンジの方が
多少甘みがあると言われています。

Orange Cauliflower (Orange Bouquet)

I saw orange cauliflower for the first time for sale.

Ordinary white cauliflower is grown with leaves covering the buds 

and so not exposing the centre to the sun. 

Orange cauliflower grows in the sunlight without hiding the buds.

Besides the colour, there are many differences, 

but it is said that the orange ones are a little sweeter.

地元の野菜 / Local Vegetables

確かに新鮮で立派な野菜に見え、さすが、地元〜！と感動します。

あとは、有機野菜か、または、農薬がどの程度使用されているか、という問題があるのかもしれません。

They certainly look like fresh and splendid vegetables, and as expected, they are local! I am impressed.

Another issue may be that they are organic vegetables or how much pesticides are used.

瑞々しさが溢れています。
 Full of freshness.

地元の酒/ Local Sake

超辛純米・谷川岳を購入しました。
I bought a super pure "Tanigawa-dake".

写真の酒瓶は小さいです。

The Sake bottles in the photographs are small.

B. 玄関 / Entrance

昔の私の作品を飾っているのは、家族だけのように思います。

特に、英国留学前の作品を飾っているのは実家だけかもしれません。

I think my family is the only one who decorates with my old works.

In particular, it may be only my mothers' house that decorates with works from before my studying in Britain.

母なりにクリスマスのイメージで玄関を飾っていました。

壁の絵と右のクリスマスアドベンドカレンダーが、

英国留学前の私の作品です。

絵は過去の個展作品、アドベンドカレンダーは

イラストレイターとしての仕事です。

ありがとう、お母さん！

Entrance in Mother's House

My mother decorates her entrance 

with the image of Christmas.

The picture on the wall and the Christmas advent calendar 

on the right are my works from before studying in Britain.

The painting is my work from one of my past exhibitions, 

and the Advent Calendar is from my work as an illustrator.

Thank you, Mother!

真ん中のトレイは英国土産、右の屏風上のカードは

私とRからの今年のクリスマスカードです。

The tray in the middle is our British souvenir, 

and the card on the right folding screen is 

this year's Christmas card from me and R.

2) 金魚 / Goldfish

私とYにとっては帰路、母にとっては往路で、"道の駅・はにゅう"に寄りました。

"道の駅・はにゅう : ★"は、国道122号線、利根川沿いにあります。

On the way back for me and Y, and on the way out for our mother, we stopped at the "Roadside Station・Hanyu" : "Michi-no-Eki Hanyu".

"Michi-no-Eki Hanyu" is located along the Tone River on National Route 122.

鑑賞用の魚

鑑賞用の魚が販売されている棚を見つけて驚きました。

この状態で売られている金魚を初めて見ました。

餌や藻なども販売しています。

Aquarium Fish 

There, I was surprised to find a shelf 

where aquarium fish are sold.

I saw goldfish sold in this condition for the first time.

They also sell food and algae.

とりあえず、写真は、全種類撮りましたが、

何しろ、私が無知なので、何が貴重で珍しい魚なのかが

わかりません。

ここに載せるのは袋の中の魚がわかるものにしています。

Anyway, I photographed all kinds of fish, but after all,

 I'm ignorant, so I don't know what is a precious and rare fish.

I put my photographs here so that we can see the fish in bags.

オレンジザリガニ

'オレンジザリガニ' というザリガニを初めて知りました。

ザリガニは、みんなザリガニで、それ以上の分け方の必要性が

全くありませんでした。

Orange Crayfish

Here I first learned about a crayfish called 'Orange Crayfish'.

For me, crayfish were all crayfish and 

there was no need for further division.

メダカ類やフナ類も販売されています。

Medaka and crucian carps are also on sale.

Y宅の最寄駅で、彼女と別れ、私と母は鎌倉の家へ向かいました。

これから8泊9日の母との日々が始まるのです。

At the nearest station to Y's house, we separated from Y and I and my mother headed to my Kamakura house.

From now on, the days with my mother for 8 nights and 9 days would begin.

2021年12月1日 お墓参り - 石岡 / Visiting Grave - Ishioka, 1st of December 2021

 お盆、お彼岸(秋)と、石岡へお墓参りをすることができませんでした。

ようやく、12月に入って、姉と一緒に実現でき、ホッとしました。

姉と会うのも久しぶりでした。

長い間、我が家のお墓の世話をしてくださっているS家に挨拶に伺うのも恒例です。

お墓の写真をブログに載せるのは初めてです。

お墓の写真にネガティブな印象を持っていたので載せませんでしたが、今回は、お墓が亡くなった父や祖母、お先祖様へ会いに行く場所という意識が強くなり、載せることにしました。

我が家のお墓
周囲に先祖代々のお墓があり、
複数のお墓に水をかけ挨拶します。
ある時期に散らばっていた先祖のお墓を
一箇所に集めたと聞いています。

Our Family Grave

There are ancestral tombs around, and we sprinkle water 

on a few tombs to greet them.

I heard that the tombs of various ancestors 

were in separate parts of our temple grounds, 

and at a certain time were collected in one place.

During Obon (in August) and Higan (in September), I couldn't visit the graves in Ishioka, Ibaraki Prefecture.

Finally, in December, I was relieved to be able to realize a visit with my sister Y.

It's been a while since I met Y.

It is also customary to greet to S family, who have been taking care of our grave for a long time.

This is the first time I have posted a photograph of our grave on my blog.

I hadn't put one on because I had a negative impression on a photograph of the grave, but this time I decided to post one because

I became more aware that the grave is a place to go to see my deceased father, my grandmother and ancestors.

お墓参りの後で、ビールと蕎麦で一息つきました。

Soba Restaurant
After visiting the grave, we took a break with beer and soba.

この日、Yと一緒に鎌倉宅へ帰りました。

Yが鎌倉宅へ来るのもとても久しぶりでした。

On this day, I returned to my house in Kamakura with Y.

It's been a long time since Y visited my house.
