篠原榮太 表紙画集

12月の初めに、"篠原榮太表紙画集" が届きました。
画集が届いた後、本の撮影をしていないことに気がつき、今日になってしました。
差出人は、篠原 榮太 (シノハラエイタ/ 1927 - 2023<追記>) 先生の奥様(Mさん)で、画集を企画したり、編集したりしたのもMさんでした。
私は、多摩美術大学の文字デザインの授業で、篠原先生に指導を受けました。
当時、先生はTBSテレビにお勤めで、ドラマなどのタイトルを書いていらっしゃると聞いていました。

私は先生のお人柄が好きで、授業終了時に出版される "創作文字の本" のコメント欄に
「私は先生が大好きです....」と恥ずかしげもなく書いていました。
若気の至り...ですね。
卒業後も、大学時代の友人の何人かが、先生と親しくしていた関係で、私もその中のはしっこのほうにいさせていただいていました。
実際に先生に会う機会には、なにかしらあって、お会いできませんでしたが、季節の便りや私の個展のDMなどは送らせていただきましたし、先生からも季節の便りや引越しのお知らせなどは、送っていただきました。
私にとって、先生は文字の先生でした。
この画集で私は初めて先生の絵を見ましたし、先生が絵を描かれることも初めて知りました。
すこし驚きました。
先生は、スパースターだったのですね。
画集が届く前から、先生の体調がすぐれないことを知っていました。
きっと奥様は、先生のために何かを残そうと思い、この画集を作られたのだと想像しました。
画集を見ると、悲しい気持ちになりますが、先生の大切な記念になる本を私になどに送っていただいたこと、嬉しく思います。

Shinohara Eita Cover Art Collection
At the beginning of December, I received the "Shinohara Eita Cover Art Book".
After receiving the art book, I realized that I hadn't taken any photographs of the book, so I did it today.
The sender was the wife, M San of Shinohara Eita (1927 - 2023<postscript>), who also planned and edited the art book.
I was taught by Shinohara Sensei in a character (or calligraphy) design class at Tama Art University.
At the time, I had heard that the teacher was working for TBS Television and writing titles for dramas and so on.
According to the Japanese Wiki about him, (translated by me)
"He began his work as a title logo designer exclusively for TV stations, and eventually became a leading figure in logotype and typeface design."
I liked the teacher's personality, and in the comments section of the "Creative Writing Book" that was published at the end of the class, I wrote without any shame, "I really like Shinohara Sensei..."
It was the folly of youth..., wasn't it?
Even after graduation, some of my friends from university remained close to Shinohara Sensei, and I was part of that circle.
One thing or another happened that prevented me from meeting him in person, but I sent him seasonal news and direct mail about my solo exhibition, and he sent me seasonal news and moving announcements.
To me, he was a teacher of calligraphy.
This artbook was the first time I saw his paintings, and the first time I learned that he painted.
I was a little surprised.
He was a superstar, wan't he?
I knew that he wasn't in good health even before the book arrived.
I imagine that his wife must have made this book to leave something behind for him.
Looking at the book makes me sad, however, I'm happy that she sent me this important memento of his work.

Eita Shinohara passed away in September 2023.
I pray for the repose of the deceased's soul and the health of M San .
