玄関
彼女の作品は異文化をもとにしているものもありますが、
なぜか和の雰囲気をのこしているように思います。
家の重量感と和風な趣が、彼女の作品と
合っているように感じます。
Entrance
Some of her works are based on foreign cultures,
but somehow they seem to retain a Japanese atmosphere.
I feel that the weight and Japanese style of the house
are in keeping with her works.

Aricoさんの作品は、揺るぎなく、迷いなく、立っているという印象があります。
それがたとえ、お皿のような形状でも、まっすぐに空へ向かって立っているという感じなのです。
レイアウトの仕方からも動かし難い強さを感じます。
彼女の陶芸に対する姿勢をそこに感じます。

Arico's works give the impression of standing unwaveringly and with certainty.
Even if they are shaped like plates, they feel as if they are standing straight up into the sky.
The layout also gives the impression that it is very unshakable Strength.
I can really sense her attitude towards pottery there.
私達は、お茶碗 : 色泥線紋碗 (紅) Mと色泥線紋碗 (黒) M (下の写真)を友人カップルのために買いました。
実は私達は、このお茶碗は以前購入して、自宅で使用しています。

3) 職人技 / Craftsmanship
屋内の造りには、たくさんの職人技 (ショクニンワザ)を見ることができます。
私にあまり知識がないので、すべての工夫に気がつくことはできなかったと思います。
プライベートの域ですので、ここでは数展4のみの職人技を紹介したいと思います。
実際は、もっとたくさんの職人技が詰め込まれている家です。

'網代天井'
'網代天井 (アジロ テンジョウ)'と呼ばれ、竹細工の
網代編み(アジロアミ)という技法が使用されています。
この手法は、バックなどによく用いられる印象があります。
'Ajiro Ceiling ': 'Ajiro Tenjo'
It is called 'Ajiro Ceiling' : 'Ajiro Tenjo' and
uses a bamboo weaving technique called Ajiroami.
I have the impression that this technique is often used for bags, etc.

Craftsmanship
I can see a lot of craftsmanship in the construction of the interior.
I don't have much knowledge, so I don't think I would be able to notice all of the ingenuity.
Because this is a private matter, I would like to introduce only a few examples of the craftsmanship here.
In reality, the house is packed with much more craftsmanship.

寄木ばりの手法が見られます。
箱根の寄木細工 (ヨセギザイク) を思わせます。

欄間
通常の家に手の込んだ欄間 (ランマ) があるのは珍しいと思います。
障子(ショウジ)も珍しくなってきているかもしれません。

ArikoさんとMarkの家は、伝統工芸の博物館のようだと思いました。
このような家を維持してゆくのも大変な苦労があると思われます。
パワーあふれる彼らだからこそ、有意義に使用し、楽しんで暮らして行けるのだと推測します。
彼女の作品も含め、良いものを見させていただき、非日常の空間を味わせていただきました。

Arico and Mark's house felt like a museum of traditional crafts.
It must be very difficult to maintain a house like this.
I imagine it is precisely because these people are so full of energy that they are able to use it meaningfully and enjoy living in it.
We had the opportunity to see some wonderful things, including her own work, and experience an extraordinary space.
4) 夕飯 / Dinner

バーベキューコンロ
家も庭もワイドなら、バーベキューコンロもワイドです。
蒸気機関車を連想します。
もしかしたら、これを使用してごちそうされたのは、
私達が最初のゲスト？
Barbecue Grill
The house and garden are wide, then a barbecue grill is wide too. It reminds me of a steam locomotive. Perhaps we were the first guests to be treated to a feast using it? |

こちらは用意万端です！
Markが肉を焼いてくれました。
食い意地がはっていて、ステーキを撮影するのを忘れました 。
しばしばする失敗です(笑)。
ワインはカルフォルニアの赤ワインをいただきました。
日本ではあまり見かけない大箱入りのワインでした。
Markがアメリカ人のせいか、あらゆるものが大きいサイズです。
This One is All Set!
Mark grilled the meat for us. I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture of the steak. It's a mistake I make often (Laugh). We were drinking a California red wine. It was a big boxed wine, which isn't something I often see in Japan. Maybe because Mark is American, everything is large in size. |
ふかふかのおふとんを用意していただきました。
お風呂はジェットバスでした。
旅館に泊まらせていただいたような、一晩でした。
家の規模からすると、本当の旅館も経営できるのではと思います。
楽しい一日でした。
Arico&Mark、いろいろ、たくさん、ありがとうございました。
We were provided with fluffy futons. (A futon is a traditional Japanese style of bedding and is used on tatami.)
The bath is a jetted tub.
It felt like a night staying in a Ryokan : a traditional hotel. According to Wiki about Ryokan, "A ryokan is a type of traditional Japanese inn that typically features tatami-matted rooms, communal baths, and other public areas where visitors may wear nemaki and talk with the owner."
Considering the size of the house, I think it could even be run as a real ryokan.
It was a fun day.
