トーマス・デニー / Thomas Denny (1956 ~ ) : ★のステンドグラスは、
1989年の大聖堂900周年記念のために制作されました。
ステンドグラスが大聖堂に設置されたのは、1992年でした。
彼の窓は、光と色が表面全体を移動する独特の方法で有名です。
彼は、ガラスの各小片を酸エッチングおよび銀染色することによって
この効果を生み出しています。
光が変わると彼の作品の様相も代わり、まるで生きているようです。

| 大きな建物であることがわかります。 269段の階段を登ると塔があり、 地下には、この聖堂の最古の部分(1089年)があります。 私達は塔にも地下にも行きませんでした。 I can see that it is a big building. Climb the 269 steps to the tower, and in the basement is the oldest part of the cathedral (1089). We didn't go to the tower or the basement.   |
B. 展示 / Display
グロスター大聖堂は、大聖堂というよりも博物館のように感じました。
2階の展示は、より一層それを感じさせます。
I feel Gloucester Cathedral is more like a museum than a cathedral.
Displays in the first floor made me think even more so.

 聖歌隊席や主祭壇の床は絨毯のようなタイルで貼られていました。 修道院のタイルは聖なるものとして非常に重要でした。 1150年後にフランスから英国にタイル職人がやってきました。 木製のスタンプを赤い土に押し、凹んだ所に白い土を埋め込み、 釉薬を施して焼きました。 素焼きはしていないのですね〜。 赤い土は赤茶に白い土は黄色に焼きあがりました。 
側廊の床
聖歌隊席や主祭壇の床に比べると素朴です。 私はこちらの方が好きです。 Floor in Aisle It is simple compared to the floor of the choir and the high altar.
I prefer this.

2階側廊の角にある小さな礼拝堂
とても素朴です。 木製の枠が好きです。 A small chapel on the corner of the first floor side aisle It's very simple. I like wooden frames. |
D. ミステリアス / Mysterious

ミステリアスな通路
グレート・イースト・ウィンドウの後ろにある通路です。
片方の入り口で囁くと、もういい方の入り口でそれを聞くことができます。 この通路は、グレート・イースト・ウィンドが設置された1350年頃よりも 後に作られたと考えられています。
私とRで試しました。

Mysterious Passage
The passage behind the Great East Window.
If you whisper at one entrance, another person can hear it at the other end.
The passage is believed to have been created
after the Great East Window was installed around 1350.

グレート・イースト・ウィンドの後ろの、ほぼ L から J の通路になります。
The passage is from almost L to J behind the Great East Window.

| 南の翼廊に石の張り出し棚があります。 これが 、'ミステリアス'と紹介されています。 なぜでしょう？ 珍しいということでしょうか？ Mason's Bracket This is introduced as 'mysterious'. I wonder why? Is this unusual? 
建築中に高いところから落ちて職人が亡くなったため、その人への記念碑か、
もしくはその人が助かってその奇跡を記念しての碑かなどと推測されています。 実際、誰もここにこれがある理由を知りません。 It is speculated that it is a monument to a person who died after falling from a high place during construction, or a monument to the miracle that the person survived. In fact, no one knows why this is here.   |
