Takeji Hiratsuka

The Complete Works of Takeji Hiratsuka

A. 本について/ About The Book

About The Book

"LA FAMOSA INVASIONE DEGLI ORSI IN SICILIA" reminded me of Takeji Hiratsuka's book : "Taiyo no Kuni no ARIKITARI / ARIKITARI in Sun Country" (my translation of title).

Later, I borrowed "The Complete Works of Takeji Hiratsuka - Vol 3" (Doushin-Sha, 1972) including "Taiyo no Kuni no ARIKITARI / ARIKITARI in Sun Country" .

This book has 8 short stories.

B. 感想/ My Impressions

a. 作家の怒り / The Author's Anger

The Author's Anger

"Taiyo no Kuni no ARIKITARI" is much more astonishing story than my memory of it.

I felt the author's anger about false information and general understanding during the Second World War in Japan, and then after the war, most people changed education policy instantly as shown in 7 stories, including "Taiyo no Kuni no ARIKITARI", but not "Papa wa Noppo de Boku ha Chibi: Dad is Tall and I am but a Slip of a Boy".

Maybe he was angry with himself, too.

In my view he showed his anger using hard satire and nonsense and he warns children 'Don't Be Taken in by common thoughts and the press! '.

I wonder if nowadays a hard satirical novel or children's book like this would be published.

I feel his thoughts carry a little bit of danger or risk, and a forceful reaction might be applied by a group (right of centre?) and so it might be quite difficult for future reprinting.

In her postscript, Yoko Inokuma criticized dispassionately and I feel quite harshly.

I really think that his sense of satire and nonsense is wonderful so I do not feel any negative points as much as she does.

I even find his anger attractive.

I think, not only about Mr. Hiratsuka, that it is wonderful and interesting that somebody can express anger, (but not grudges).

Light

Some might think that we should think separately the author's life and his works, however, I can feel that his warm heart to his son in "Papa ha Noppo de Boku ha Chibi: Dad is Tall and I am but a Slip of a Boy" .

This story is the most heartwarming in this book and the longest as well.

The story seems to show the author's hope for the future, although
I feel the author's hope is not so clear-cut and the author might be searching for hope without certainty.

However, I think it is good that we always review what we think is right and the truth looking from different angles while we consider.

I wonder if the 'Dad' would say this to his boy like that.

I think the story confirms step by step that the views of 'Dad' and 'Boy' are different, because their heights and experiences are different, although they have something in common.

The author emphasizes 'Dad' is not acting cool.

I feel friendly towards the 'Dad' who does not to talk big with lies.

After I read the story, I hope that even though the 'Dad' is uncool like this, the boy loves the 'Dad' and after growing up, he still would love him.

I feel the intention of the editors to give a warm light to the children who read all the stories, so they placed this story at the end of the book.

In my opinion, children's literature should have optimism like that.

Children's literature must at least have a ray of light even in a very hard or sad life, so  there can be some good things or happiness.

Of course it would be alright if an author wants to write of a hopeless and dark world, however, even though the main character is a child in the story, the work is not for children, it is a novel for adults.

If children want to read a story like that, I think they could.

However, I think the publishing world should avoid giving these to children who are not ready for anything.

2012 / T- Shirt for MARATHON DU MÉDOC, 2012

MARATHON DU MÉDOC

T- Shirt for MARATHON DU MÉDOC, 2012

In France, there is a 'MARATHON DU MÉDOC' once a year.

Official HP

Runners in this MARATHON  visit some wine chateaux and can drink wine and wear fancy dress.

This idea and type of event is impossible in Japan, isn' it?

My friend M, who lives in Britain, took part in 'MARATHON DU MÉDOC, 2012' with a group of her friends.

This year's theme was 'History', and they chose
'Shotokutaishi',
the phrase was
'Shoutoku Taishi can understand 10 people speaking at the same time'.

By the time I had her request for the illustration, I had less than half
a day to finish.

I rushed to illustrate and send by e-mail. (Above illustrations)

I realized that I hadn't illustrated any clothing since I left company,  who make clothes for children.

always helps me, so I am glad that I did this for her.

M said she really loves this, so I am pleased!
They took this T- Shirt to France.
M gave me this one.

MARATHON DU MÉDOC, 2012
M is Always Cheerful!

Are you even a little bit tired?
She and her friends ran the whole distance!
Well done!

The comments are in French, although it is still enjoyable.
