1) 第3回枕崎国際芸術賞展 

    The 3rd Makurazaki International 

    Art Award Exhibition

私の作品が、鹿児島県 枕崎市 (カゴシマケン マクラザキシ) が主催する『第3回枕崎国際芸術賞展』に入選し、

枕崎市文化資料センター南溟館で展示されました。

展示を見に、姉Yと旅に出ました。

その旅行そのものが、母からのお祝いでした。

私が公募展へ応募することはまれなことです。

これからもしばらく応募はしないと推測しています。

この機会にYと旅行できたことはラッキーでした。

入選作 : "アクアモリモ"
応募作品数1,128点 (過去最高) で、1次審査通過作品は69点で、
その中に入り、62点が会場に展示されました。

Selected Work : "Aquamarimo"
Of the 1,128 entries (a record high), 69 passed the first screening,
and 62 of them were exhibited in the venue.

The 3rd Makurazaki International 

Art Award Exhibition

One of my works has been selected and exhibited in 

'The 3rd Makurazaki International Art Award Exhibition' organized by Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture.

I went on a trip with my older sister Y to see the exhibition.

The trip itself was a celebration from our mother.

It is rare for me to apply to public exhibitions.

I'm assuming I won't be applying for a while.

I was lucky to be able to travel with Y on this occasion.

Catalogue
The front and back covers of the catalogue show

 two tickets, and a gorgeous certificate.

自作がカタログに載っています。
不思議なことに、平面作品で私が最も好きだった作品が
同じページに載っていました。

Strangely enough, my favourite two-dimensional work
 is on the same page.

1) 猫と一緒 / With Cats

田園調布のアトリエ木里 (キリ) へ行った後、日吉 (横浜市) に住む、友人A&Tの家へ行きました。

お泊まりもしました。

A&Tは、私が出会った当時から猫を飼っていて、現在の猫は、4匹目になります。

With Cats

I visited and stayed in my friends A&T flat in Hiyoshi, Yokohama after visiting Atelier Kiri in Den-en-chōfu,Tokyo.

A&T have had cats since I first met them, and the current cat is their fourth.

4代目は、'はちわれ' の "あずきちゃん" です。

Their fourth is "Azuki", a Bicolor Cat.

歴代の猫
右から、スゥ、福 (フク)。
左、名は四郎、愛称はシロ。
シロとあずきは兄弟猫です。
私はすべての猫と会っています。
亡くなった猫たちの写真を見ると、私は勝手に切ない気持ちになります。
A&Tが猫たちから喜びや慰めを与えられ、また、亡くなった時には
深い悲しみを感じてきたであろうと推測しています。
それらの感情は彼女たちの人生を豊かにもしているのだろうとも思います。

Successive Cats
From right, Su and Fuku.
On the left, his name was Shirō : 四郎, and his nickname was Shiro.
Shiro and Azuki were brother cats.

I have met all the cats.

When I look at photographs of dead cats, I myself feel sad.

I guess that A&T were given joy and comfort from the cats, 

and that A&T must have felt deep grief when they died.

I believe that those feelings have been enriching their lives.

紙の鯨
この紙の鯨は、鎌倉山にある、"ブックカフェ・惣common"
でも飾られていました。
"惣common"で、この紙の鯨を見た時、'国芳の鯨' を連想しました。
そういえば、Tは、歌川 国芳 (ウタガワ クニヨシ/ 1798 - 1861)が
好きであったと記憶しています。
このペパーワークには、ほかの形もあるので、
シリーズで制作されているのでしょう。

Paper Whale

This paper whale was also displayed

 in "Book Cafe 惣common" in Kamakurayama.

When I saw this paper whale in the Cafe, 

I was reminded of 'Kuniyoshi's Whale'.

Speaking of which, I remember that T likes 

Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798 - 1861).

There are other forms of this paper work, 

so they must have been produced as a series.

'猫が住む森'
A&T宅を訪問する前に、アトリエ木里で開催されていた
"森の音・風の色"展へ行きました。
A&T宅のトイレに森のイメージを感じました。
しかも猫ちゃんが住む？
聞くところによると、まだ、'森の制作'は途中なのだそうです。

'Forest Where Cats Live'

Before visiting A&T's flat, I visited 

"Sounds of the Forest, Colours of the Wind" exhibition

in Atelier Kiri.

I felt the image of a forest in the toilet in A&T's flat.

And do the cats live there?

I heard that the 'Forest Production' is still in progress.

"春の恵み"
以前、A&Tを鎌倉宅へ招待した時、彼女らが
持参した山菜をモチーフに制作したリトグラフ作品です。
山菜はTの故郷のものです。
彼女達が額装を素敵にして、飾ってくれています。
ありがとうございます。
この作品からも森からのリンクが感じられました。

"Gift of Spring"
Once, when I invited A&T to my Kamakura House,
they brought wild vegetables.
The wild vegetables were from T's hometown.
I made this lithograph work using the vegetables
  as a motif.
They have framed this print beautifully and have on display.
Thank you!
I felt a link to the forest from this work as well.

2) 食事 / Meal

この日は、主にAが料理を作り、Tが私のお話し相手になってくれました。

Tも何か作ってくれたのかもしれませんが、私には判断がつきませんでした。

お料理は、酒飲みが好きそうなものばかり、そして、繊細でとても美味しかったです。

どうもありがとうございました。

Meal

On this day, A mainly cooked and T talked to me.

T may have made something, but I couldn't judge it.

The food was just what drinkers would like, and it was delicate and very delicious.

Thank you very much.

ワイングラス
このワイングラスが好きです。
同じものを購入しようと思いましたが、現在売り切れ状態で、
製造が間に合わないそうです。
職人さん、もしくは小さな工場の仕事なのかもしれません。

Wine Glass

I like this wine glass.

I had hoped to buy the same one, but it seems that

 they are currently sold out and that 

production cannot keep up with demand.

It may be a craftsman or a small factory work.

可愛いエチケット
このエチケットからも森のイメージがします。
セブンイレブンのワインでも美味しいと彼女らが紹介してくれました。
ほんと、最近は、日本で飲むワインは、
手頃な価格で美味しいと思います。

Lovely Etiquette

This etiquette also has an image of the forest.

They introduced me to this wine from 7-Eleven which was also lovely.

Really, these days, I think the wine we drink in Japan

 is reasonably priced and nice.

一晩、泊めていただき、翌日、帰宅しました。

とっても久しぶりに友人の家に泊まりました。

コロナも影響していますが、コロナのことを除いても、ここ何年かは友人宅に泊まることがすくなくなりました。

なので、余計に、嬉しく感じました。

楽しく、美味しく、素敵な時間でした。

ありがとうございました。

I stayed overnight and returned home the next day.

It has been a long time since I stayed in a friend's home.

Corona has had an effect but even without corona, I have rarely stayed in a friend's home for the past few years.

So, I felt overjoyed.

It was a fun, delicious and wonderful time.

Thank you very much.

姉Yと鹿児島県 枕崎市 (カゴシマケン マクラザキシ) への旅に出ました。

私の作品が、枕崎市が主催する『第3回枕崎国際芸術賞展』に入選し、展示されることになったからです。

応募作品数1,128点 (過去最高) で、1次審査通過作品は69点で、その中に入り、62点が会場に展示されました。

会場は、枕崎市文化資料センター南溟館

（鹿児島県枕崎市山手町175番地）でした。

鎌倉に住む私には、遠い場所です。

ですが、私が公募展へ応募するのもまれであり、入選も展示もまれなことに思えたので、行くことにしました。

私の作品は、"Aquamarimo / アクアマリモ"で、

Aquamarimo

My older sister Y and I went on a trip to Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture.

This is because my work has been selected and exhibited at 'The 3rd Makurazaki International Art Award Exhibition' organized by Makurazaki City.

Of the 1,128 entries (a record high), 69 passed the first screening, and 62 of them were exhibited in a venue.

The venue was Nanmei Museum of Art (175 Yamate-cho, Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture).

For me who lives in Kamakura, it is a distant place.

However, it was rare for me to apply for public exhibitions, and I thought it would be rare for me to be selected and exhibited, so I decided to go.

My work is "Aquamarimo",

B. 羽田空港から / From Haneda Airport

夫Rは英国にいるので、Yを誘って一緒に枕崎まで行ってもらいました。

私は、鹿児島県を訪れるのが初めてでしたが、随分前に、屋久島 

(ヤクシマ) と奄美大島 (アマミオオシマ) へは行ったことがありました。

それらの島は便宜上、鹿児島県ではありますが、私にとっては、鹿児島県ではありません。

Yは鹿児島を10回以上訪れています。

彼女の夫NYの故郷が鹿児島です。

NYの母を訪ねたり、N家のお墓参りをしたりという計画も旅には含めました。

姉妹のみで旅行するは、初めてか、20数年ぶりだったかもしれません。

どちらにしても記憶がありません(笑)。

羽田空港で待ち合わせ、JAL便で鹿児島空港へ向かいました。

羽田空港 / Haneda Airport

From Haneda Airport

My husband R is in Britain, so I asked Y to go with me to Makurazaki.

This was my first time visiting Kagoshima Prefecture, although I had been to Yakushima Island, and Amami Ōshima Island many years ago.

For convenience, those islands are Kagoshima Prefecture, but to me, they are not Kagoshima Prefecture.

Y has visited Kagoshima more than 10 times.

Her husband NY's hometown is Kagoshima.

The trip also included plans to visit NY's mother and N family grave.

This may have been the first time for I and my sister to take a trip together, or at least the first time in 20 years.

Either way I don't remember (Laugh).

We met at Haneda Airport and headed to Kagoshima Airport by JAL flight.

フライト前にお茶を飲む時間がありました。
Yはカフェラテとマフィン、私はカフェラテを飲みました

We had time to have some coffee before our flight.
Y had a cafe latte and a muffin, I had a cafe latte

ハート
蓋の下に、手抜きをせずにハート柄が
描かれていました。
旅の前の小さな幸せ感は大切に思います。

 Heart
Even though it was hidden under the lid,
a heart pattern was drawn.
I cherish the small moments of happiness before a trip.

いつも日本のスタッフ陣は律儀だな〜
と感心します。

I'm always impressed
by how polite the Japanese staff are.

    Kagoshima Airport to Makurazaki

A. 鹿児島空港 / Kagoshima Airport

鹿児島空港に到着。

随分前に、私は、屋久島を訪れた際、乗り継ぎ空港として、鹿児島空港を利用しました。

Yは、ある程度、どこに何があるかは、わかっていました。

バス発着所まで、迷わずに行きました。

足湯
空港に足湯...のどかな感じがします。
良いアイディアであると思います。
ですが、私たちはタオルもないし、くつろぐ心の余裕と時間が
ありませんでした。

Footbath

A footbath at the airport...it feels peaceful.

I think it's a good idea.

However, we didn't have towels, and 

we didn't have the time and leeway in our minds.

Kagoshima Airport

Arrive at Kagoshima Airport.

A long time ago, when I visited Yakushima, I used Kagoshima Airport as a transit airport.

Y knew, to some extent, where things were.

We went to the bus station without hesitation.

西郷さん？
西郷さん (西郷隆盛 / サイゴウ タカモリ / 1828 -1877) を
思わせる木彫の人物像付きのベンチがあります。
このセンスは鹿児島的と呼ぶのでしょうか？

Mr. Saigo?
There is a bench with a carved wooden figure
reminiscent of Saigo Takamori (1828 -1877).
Is this sense called Kagoshima style?

枕崎行きのバス
私もYも枕崎へ行くのは、初めてでした。
バスと電車での交通手段があります。
私たちは、往路はバス、帰路は電車を利用しました。

Bus to Makurazaki
It was the first time for me and Y to go to Makurazaki.
There are buses and trains for transportation.
We took the bus on the way out and the train
on the way back.

B. 地形と植物 / Terrain and Plants

車窓から
土地の形を観察しました。
平な場所がひろがって、とんがり山に囲まれている
という印象を持ちました。

From the Bus Window
Observe the shape of the land.
I had the impression that it was a wide, flat area
 surrounded by peaks.

 黄色い百合 
黄色い百合(?)が目を引きました。
ですがこれは、
曼珠沙華 [マンジュシャゲ / 彼岸花 (ヒガンバナ)] 
なのかもしれません。
曼珠沙華なら珍しいと思いました。

 Yellow Lilies 

Yellow lilies (?) caught my eye.

But these may be Manjyushage : Red Spider Lilies.

If they are Red Spider Lilies, I would think they are rare.

C. 加世田 / Kaseda

2005年に、加世田市は、他の地域と合併し、
南さつま市になりました。

鹿児島交通4号機 : DD1201

蒸気機関車が見えたので、撮影しました。

後にこれは、鹿児島交通4号機 : DD1201とわかりました。

場所は、加世田バスターミナルです。

加世田バスターミナルは、

南薩鉄道 (ナンサツテツドウ/ 後に鹿児島交通)

の加世田駅の跡地に整備されています。

Kagoshima Kotsu No.4 : DD1201

I saw a steam locomotive, so I took a picture.

Later I found out that this is Kagoshima Kotsu Unit 4 : DD1201.

Location: Kaseda Bus Terminal.

The Kaseda Bus Terminal was built on the former site of 

Kaseda Station on the Nansatsu Railway 

(Later Kagoshima Kotsu).

南さつま警察署 加世田交番
(バスターミナル脇)
後に、蒸気機関車がどこに設置されているのかを
調べるときに役に立つかと思い、撮影した交番です。
 '加世田(カセダ)'は、加世田市であったからだと思います。
現在は、南さつま市になっています。

Kaseda Police Box of Minamisatsuma Police

(Beside Bus Terminal)

I thought it would be useful later when I would check where 

the steam locomotive was installed, 

so I took a picture of the police box.

I think 'Kaseda' was because it was Kaseda city.

It is now in Minamisatsuma City.

南さつま市には、日本三大砂丘の1つ、吹上浜 (フキアゲハマ) があります。

[他2つは、静岡県の南遠大砂丘 (ナイエンダイサキュウ)、鳥取県の鳥取砂丘 (トットリサキュウ)です]

太平洋戦争末期に、最後の特攻隊の出撃地、万世飛行場 (バンセイヒコウジョウ)が吹上浜にあり、現在その跡地には、万世特攻平和記念館 (バンセイトッコウヘイワキネンカン : ★ )があります。

1987年からほぼ毎年、"吹上浜砂の祭典" が開催されています。

この祭典は、日本で最も長い歴史を持つ '砂のイベント' です。

推測するに、人々は、悲しい歴史を忘れてはいけないと平和を願いつつ、万世特攻平和記念館を作り、悲惨な歴史が残る砂浜を、楽しく平和な場所に変えようと '砂のイベント' を開催し続けるのではないでしょうか？

過去を嘆いてばかりはいられない、未来へ向け、意識を変え、行動をしなくては...。

イベントと平和が長く続きますように！

砂の祭典が開催時には、台の上に砂の像が作られるようです。

When the Sand Festival is held, 
it seems that a statue of sand is made on the pedestal.
Location : In front of Kaseda police box

Minamisatsuma City is home to 'Fukiagehama Beach', one of Japan's three largest sand dunes.

[The other two are the 'Naiendai Dunes' in Shizuoka Prefecture and the 'Tottori Sand Dunes' in Tottori Prefecture]

At the end of the Pacific War, the last Tokkōtai  (Kamikaze) squadron site, Bansei Airfield, was located in Fukiagehama, and now there is the Bansei Tokkō Peach Museum (★ ) on the site.

The Fukiage Sand Festival has been held almost every year since 1987.

This festival is the 'Sand Event' with the longest history in Japan.

My guess is that people wished for peace and never forgot their sad history, built the Bansei Tokkō Peach Museum, and held a 'sand event' to change the tragic history of the sandy beach into a happy and peaceful place. Do you think it will continue to be held?

We can't just lament the past, we have to change our mindset and act towards the future...

I hope peace continues with an event for a long time!

鹿児島空港を出発した際には、私たちを含め
8名ほど乗客がいました。
枕崎到着時は、私たち二人だけでした。

In a Moving Bus

When we left Kagoshima Airport, there were 

about 8 passengers including us.

When we arrived at Makurazaki, it was just the two of us.

花渡川 
花渡川 (ケドガワ) 付近が開けてきたので、
もうすぐ枕崎なのかと思いました。
撮影時には、花渡川という名前は知りませんでしたが....

 Kedo River 
The area around Kedagawa has opened up,
so I thought Makurazaki would be coming soon.
However, at the time of photography,
I didn't know the name, Kedo River..
