"ヤエヤマ(ヒメ)ボタル" を見る、ナイトツアーに参加しました。
この旅行のハイライトは、この晩。
合計40名ほどのツアー参加者は、貸し出された長靴を履き、ドライバー兼ガイドの車に別れて出発！
出発時は、下の"イリオモテヤマネコ飛び出し注意"の看板 (下の写真) が撮影できるほど明るさがありました。
"ヤエヤマ(ヒメ)ボタル"は、日没後1時間くらいの間のみ光るそうです。
After Sunset
We stayed overnight in this hotel.
On that evening I participated in a night tour for watching "Yaeyama (hime) Firefly".
This evening was the highlight of this trip.
Our total of about 40 tour participants wore the borrowed boots, separated into groups of five, a driver guide with a car for each group and departed!
At departure, there was enough daylight to be able to photograph the sign of "Iriomote Cat Jump Out" below.

B.ヤエヤマボタル / Yaeyama Firefly
旅行前に、懐中電灯を持ってくるように言われていたので、持参しましたが、懐中電灯も貸してくれました。
彼から、イリオモテヤマネコに関する様々なことを聞きました。
ガイドさんがなるべく目を暗さに慣れさせたほうが良いというのですが、やはり懐中電灯の明かりを頼りにしてしまいます。
どの程度山地に入っているのかは、全くわかりません。
それでも、全く見られないよりもずっとましです。
夜の森の気配や、匂いや、音を、歩きつつ感じることは、日常からかけ離れた体験でした。
ケタケタというカエルの鳴き声さえも特別に思え、亜熱帯の森を感じました。
車をとめた場所まで、戻るときには、かなり暗くなっていました。
ガイドさんは夜道に慣れているらしく、後ろを歩く私達のために彼の懐中電灯の光を彼の後ろの地面を照らし歩いてくれました。
ガイドさんの懐中電灯の光は赤、理由は赤の光の後に暗い部分を見ても目が暗さについて行け易いからです。
逆に白い光に慣れた目は、急に変化する明暗について行きにくいのです。

と思いつつ、私はRの手をひいて、ガイドさんのすぐ後ろを歩きました。
私自身も足に障害があり、Rも足首に持病があるので、私達は、でこぼこの道は非常に弱くもあり、危険なので、そのようにしました。
ガイドの後ろがベストポジションと気がついた人がもう一人いました。
私達の男性添乗員でした。
車に向かう途中、その添乗員にそのベストポジションを奪われて、
(ちょっと、ちょっと、そういう良い場所を添乗員がとってしまって、どうする？
添乗員は最初か最後尾でしょ？)
と、ムッとなり、添乗員相手に、私は静かに場所取りの争奪戦を繰り広げ、そして勝ちました！
暗闇で誰にも争奪戦をしている私の顔を見られずにすみ、良かったです(苦笑)。
今回の男性添乗員は、彼なりに頑張ってくれたとは思いますが、様々な面で不満を感じてしまいました。
それは私だけでなく、他の方も感じていたと羽田空港でわかりました。
ほとんどの女性の添乗員は気がきく方々なので、やっぱり、添乗員は女性が良いな〜と改めて思った次第。
Yaeyama Firefly

Our driver and guide came from Saitama Prefecture and he migrated to Iriomote Island.
I heard from him various things about Iriomote cat.
As we got out of the car, we walked along the path without any streetlights in the dusk to the place where "Yaeyama Firefly (Yaeyama-hime Firefly)" might be seen.
"Yaeyama Firefly" live mountainous areas, they seem to shine for only about an hour after sunset.
Although our driver guide said that it is better to get used to the dark as much as possible rather than using the flashlight, but I depended on the flashlight.
I did not know how far or deep it was in the mountains.
On this day, the temperature was low, the activity of "Yaeyama Firefly" was subdued and we only saw the lights of two or three firefies.
It was much better than not seeing any at all!
While I was walking I smelled, heard and I felt the sense of the forest at night, which was for me an experience far from everyday life.
Even the frogs voices, 'Keta-keta' sounded special for me, I felt the subtropical forest.

Upon returning to the place where the cars were we stopped, it was pretty dark.
The guide seems to be used to that path at night, and walked with the light of his flashlight behind him lighting the ground for us who walked behind him.
The guide's flashlight is red, the reason is that seeing in dark areas after using red light is easier for the eyes.
In contrast, it is hard for the eyes accustomed to white light to adjust rapidly to a change to darkness.

星空が綺麗に見られるという、畑の中へ車で移動しました。
世界水準の星空環境を有する、西表石垣国立公園(イリオモテイシガキコクリツコウエン)は、国内初の2018年3月30日に「星空保護区」(ダーク・スカイ・パーク / International Dark-Sky Association:IDA)に認定されました。(世界では59番目)

残念ながら、この日の夜空は雲っていて、
「うわ〜！綺麗」
と感動するほどには、星の輝きは感じられませんでした。
英国の湖水地方で、冬の晩に見た星空が今までで一番綺麗でしたし、星が怖いくらいに近く、大きく感じました。
それに比べると、この日の星空は、鎌倉山の家で見る星空のほうが綺麗と思う状態でした。
'ヤエヤマホタルの幻想的な風景' は見ることができず、星空にも感動しませんでしたが、ナイトツアー体験は、楽しめました。

Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park was designated on 30th of March in 2018 as one of the International Dark Sky Parks by the International Dark-Sky Association : IDA which means it has been certified as a world-class starry sky environment, the IDA is based in USA.

It was the first Park in Japan and the 59th in the world.

"Wow ~ beautiful"
I could not feel the glow of the stars.
For me, the most beautiful starry night I have seen so far was in winter, in the Lake District, UK and it gave me feeling that the stars were very close and very big, almost scary.
In comparison, the starry sky on this day was such that I thought that the starry sky seen near the house in Kamakura-yama was better.
I could not see 'Fancy Landscape of Yaeyama Firefly', I was not impressed with the starry sky, but I still enjoyed the night tour experience.

そうそう、朝食はバイキング形式でした。
出発が早いので、いつものようにゆったりと食べることはできませんでした。

本格的な冒険ツアーに参加できない私達が、西表島のジャングルを模擬体験できます。
同じツアーの何人かの方々とも、合いました。
Walking Route
There is a walking course around the entrance of the jungle in the hotel premises
We can not mingle in a full-scale adventure tour, we can simulate the jungle of Iriomote Island there.
It is a simple course to just go and come back, but it was full of jungle feeling, easy pounding feeling, it was fun.
We also met several people of the same tour.
