友人J&S、夫Rと私は、蒸気機関車が走る 
"セヴァーン谷鉄道 / Severn Valley Railway : ★" による日帰り旅行をしました。
セヴァーン谷鉄道のサイト : ★ / ★ (英語)

 ビュードリーの町やハイリーの蒸気機関車博物館 / "Engine House : ★" を楽しんで、
出発したブリッジノース駅 / Bridgnorth Railway Station に帰ってきました。
ブリッジノース駅舎内の時計
'英国の時計はどれも違うけれど、どうして？’
と訪ねた日本人の友人の娘がいました。
でも、駅の時計は正確であると私は信じたい...(笑)。

However, I would like to believe that the station clock is accurate ... (Laugh).

I had a day trip by steam locomotives of "Severn Valley Railway : ★" with our friends J&S,  my husband R.

We enjoyed the town of Bewdley and the "Engine House : ★"  in Highley and returned to Bridgnorth Railway Station where I left.

駅から、崖上のブリッジノース城 を見る

ブリッジノース城 
1101年にロバート・デ・ベルメ/ Robert de Belleme (1056頃 - 1130頃) が彼の城をここに作ったのが、ブリッジノース城 / Bridgenorth Castle のはじまりです。

ロバート・デ・ベルメは、フランスのモンゴメリー伯爵 / Roger de Montgomery (? -1094) の息子で、父を引き継いでシューズベリー伯爵になりました。

城の大きな特徴である四角い塔は、ヘンリー2世 (1133 -1189 / 在位: 1154 -1189) の治世中に建設されました。

今日、お城で残されている建物は、896年にデンマーク軍によって建てらた要塞部分だけです。

Bridgnorth Castle
Robert de Belleme (c1056 -c1130) built a castle here in 1101.

He  was the son of the French Earl, Roger de Montgomery (? -1094) and succeeded his father to become the Earl of Shrewsbury.

Its principal feature, a square tower, was built during the reign of 
Henry II (1133 -1189 / r1154 -1189).

Today, the Castle Keep is the only remaining part of the fortress built by a Danish army in 896.

2) キャッチ・ミー・フー・キャン号 / Catch Me Who Can
駅舎前に "キャッチ・ミー・フー・キャン号"  : ★の模型が展示されています。
(Catch Me Who Cam : "追いつけるものなら、追いついてみろ! " または、
"誰も私に追いつくことはできない!"と言う意味でしょうか？)

"キャッチ・ミー・フー・キャン(Catch Me Who Can) は
リチャード・トレビシック (1771 -1833) によって製造された4台目にして最後の蒸気機関車である。
1808年にイングランドのブリッドノース (ブリッジノース) の工場で
ジョン・アーペス・ラストリック / John Urpeth Rastrick (1780 -1856) と
Hazledine (ハズレディン / John Hazledine / 1760–1810 ) によって製造された。
トレビシックによって現在のロンドンのユーストン・スクエア駅の南に位置するブルームスベリーで"蒸気サーカス"として円形の軌道上の走行が公開実演された。"

Catch Me Who Can
A model of "Catch Me Who Can" : ★ is displayed in front of the station building.

According to this board, below. 
"This statue is based on the world's first fare-paying passenger railway locomotive
It was designed by Richard Trevithick (1771 -1833), built by John Urpreth Rastrick (1780 -1856) at Hazledine's Foundry in Bridgnorth, and demonstrated in London in 1808.
A full size working replica engine is being built at the Severn Valley Railway by the Trevithick 200 charity."

1808年、この場所で世界初の蒸気機関車が
リチャード・トレビシック (下の絵) の設計によって作られました。
現在、その形跡が感じられるものはなく、この案内板のみがあります。

In 1808, the world 's first steam locomotive in this place was made
to the design of Richard Trevithick, below.
There is nothing that can be seen nowadays, there is only this guide board.

彼は、イギリスの機械技術者で、蒸気機関車の発明者です。

He was a British mechanical engineer and inventor of the steam locomotive.

2017年に、セヴァーン川の岸辺を歩いているときに、'ハズレディン製鉄所 / Hazledine's Foundry' の案内板を見つけ、ここで世界で初めての蒸気機関車が作られたのだとRから聞いた時、びっくりし、印象に残っていました。
(コメントにも書きましたが、周辺がとても穏やかであったので...)
2017年のブリッジノース訪問については下記。

In 2017, while walking on the riverside of the Severn River, I was surprised to find a sign at the 'Hazledine's Foundry' and heard from R that the world's first steam locomotive was built here. And it left an impression. (As I wrote in the comments, above because of the surroundings were very calm ...)

蒸気機関の有益さは認知されましたが財政的には失敗し、
トレビシックは破産してしまいました。

Demonstrated at the "Steam Circus" in London
The benefits of the steam engine were recognized,
 but the business failed, Trevithick went bankrupt.

キャッチ・ミー・フー・キャン号 のレプリカが2008年に
ブリッジノースの慈善団体によって作られました。

A replica of "Catch Me Who Can" was created in 2008 by Bridgnorth Charities.


英国人にとって蒸気機関車は特別なのですね....とあらためて思います。

 特に、世界で初めての蒸気機関車・ "キャッチ・ミー・フー・キャン号" はブリッジノースで作られたので、地元の人々にとっては、それはそれは誇らしいでしょう。
Steam locomotives are special for British people....again I think.

 Especially for local people, they are proud, as the world's first steam locomotive "Catch Me Who Can" was built in Bridgnorth.


駅の裏側(?)に当たる場所に、"トレビシック200 / Trevithick 200"は展示されています...展示というか、そこにありますというか.....。

展示というよりも機関庫の扱いかもしれません。

イベントがあると貸し出されるようです。


"Trevithick 200" is on display at the back of the Station, just parked outside!

 Maybe the siding is treated as an engine warehouse rather than an exhibition.

"Trevithick 200" seems to be rented out when there is an event.

Wheel arrangement : 4-6-0 : oOOO

 "BR リドルズ 4MT 75069" は、1955年に、ロバート・アーサー・ロビン・リドルズ / Robert Arthur "Robin" Riddles (1892 -1983)の設計で、イギリス国鉄 (南部地域 : BR / 元はサザン鉄道 / Southern Railway) の スウィンドン工場で作られました。


BR Riddles 4MT 75069  was designed by Robert Arthur "Robin" Riddles (1892 -1983) and was built by  Western Region of British Railways (ex Southern Railway) at Swindon Works.

 in front of the car park at the station.

They are fine and are also active, aren't they?

正面の建物は、元は宿泊施設だったのでしょうか？
売りに出されていました。

They had been sold.

こちらも現役のバイクとバイカー。
実はこのバイク、故障してました...。

1) エンジン・ハウス / Engine House
エンジン・ハウスは、2008年に開館しました。
It was opened in March 2008.

エンジン・ハウス 
ハイリー駅から200ヤード (約183m) の場所にあります。
ハイリー炭鉱の貨物の積み下ろし場跡にできました。
ハイリー炭鉱については、⓳ - Aのセクションで書いています(下記)。

Engine House
It is situated approximately 200 yards from Highley Railway Station, 
on the site of the former sidings of Highley Colliery.
I wrote about the Highley Colliery in  ⓳ - A section, below.

ハーレイ駅はハンプトンロード駅とアーレイ駅の間にあります。
The Highley Railway Station is between Hampton Loade Stn. and Arley Stn.




2) 汽車ポッポ / Puff Puff or Choo-Choo
2) のタイトルは、
"汽車ポッポ" [作詞：富原 薫 (フハラ カオル / 1905 -1975) 
 作曲：草川信 (クサカワ シン/ 1893 -1948)：★ / ★ ]
の歌(童謡) から、とりました。

 実は現在の歌詞は、戦後になって、書き換えられたものであると今回知りました。

 最初のタイトルは、"兵隊さんの汽車"で、同じ作詞作曲者によるものでした。
最初の歌詞はここで→★

私とっては現在の歌詞が"汽車ポッポ" であり、オリジナルの歌詞は全く別物です。

 そしてオリジナルの歌詞では、これだけ多くの人々(日本人)に歌い継がれる歌にはならなかったでしょう。

この歌については⓳ - Cでも触れましたが、その点については触れませんでしたので、ここに書き留めて置きたいと思いました。

Puff Puff or Choo-Choo
The Japanese title of  2) 汽車ポッポ came from the nursery song : 
"Kisha Poppo /  汽車ポッポ" 
[lyrics: Kaoru Fuhara (1905 -1975) / composition: Shin Kusakawa (1893 -1948)：★ / ★ ]
which is known to all Japanese.

 For me the current lyrics are "Kisha Poppo / 汽車ポッポ" and the original lyrics are completely different.

 And the original lyrics would not have become a song that could be passed on to so many people (Japanese).

 Actually, I knew this time that the current lyrics were rewritten after the war.

The first title was "Soldier's Train", which was written by the same lyricist & composer.

5700形 / 車輪配置 0-6-0 : OOO
これはタンク機関車、燃料と水を本体が積載しています。

 Right now, 83 years old! on Active Duty.

5700 Class / Wheel arrangement : 0-6-0PT : OOO
This is a Tank engine (locomotive), which has fuel and water loaded on its body.

GWR Pannier 7714
1930年に、チャールズ・ベンジャミン・コレット (1871 -1952) の設計で、
ストークのカースチュアート＆カンパニーがグレート・ウェスタン鉄道 : GWRのために製造しました。

5700形は、Great Western Railwayが設計および製造したエンジンの中で最も多い形でした。

1929年から1950年の間に860以上が製造されました。

ジオラマのようですが実際の風景です。
It looks like a diorama but it is a real landscape.

GWR Pannier 7714
It was designed by Charles Benjamin Collett (1871 -1952) and was built by 
Kerr Stuart & Co. of Stoke, Works for the Great Western Railway (GWR).

The 5700 class was the most numerous class of engine designed and built
by the Great Western Railway; more than 860 were built between 1929 and 1950.


逆機
セヴァーン谷鉄道 は転車台がないのかもしれません。
ホームで逆機を見ると、正直、ちょっとがっかりします。
しませんか？

 Engine in Reverse 
Severn Valley Railway may not have a turntable.
When I am on a platform and I see that locomotive will backwards,
 I'm honestly a little disappointed.
Are you?

きっと、そう言う気持ちを察して後ろにもネームプレートをつけ、
後ろにも表情を作っているのでしょう。
ツーリストへのサービスを感じます。

Surely, I thought that they understand many feel like that 
and so they put a name plate on the back, making a face expression behind.
I feel the services for tourists.

6960 ラベニガム・ホール
ラベンハム・ホール6960 /  Raveningham Hall は1944年に、
によって設計され、
これはテンダー機関車...だと思います。

 6960 Raveningham Hall
 6960 Raveningham Hall : coming into Station.
"6960" was built in 1944 at Swindon Works to
a design by Frederick Hawksworth (1884 -1976).
I think this is a tender locomotive ...


1947年6月、イースト・アングリア / East Anglia の荘厳な家にちなんで、
ラベニンガム・ホール / Raveningham Hall
と名付けられました。

In June 1947 it received the name Raveningham Hall
after a stately home in East Anglia.

1500形 / 車輪配置 : 0-6-0PT : OOO

GWR Pannier 1501
GWR Pannier 1501 (GWR パンナー1501) は、1500形 /車輪配置 0-6-0のタンク車で、唯一、現存する例です。


けれども、国有化の2年後、1949年にスウィンドン (グレート・ウェスタン鉄道スウィンドン工場)でイギリス国鉄 (西部地域)  / Western Region of British Railways に
よって製造されました。

タンク機関車 / Tank Engine

GWR Pannier 1501
GWR Pannier 1501 is the only surviving example of a GWR 1500 class 0-6-0PT tank engine.

It was designed by Frederick Hawksworth (1884 -1976) of the Great Western Railway (GWR).

However, two years after Nationalisation, it was built by the Western Region of British Railways at Swindon (Swindon railway works) in 1949.

The passenger carriage also has an emotional atmosphere and is wonderful!

ハンググライダーとパラジェットの間？
なんと言う名の乗り物なのでしょうか？

Between a hang glider and a parajet?
What kind of vehicle is it?

空から蒸気機関車を眺めるのは面白い事でしょうね〜。
でも、私は、ヘタレなので、この乗り物に乗ろうと言う勇気はありません。

It would be interesting to look at the steam locomotive from the sky.
But I'm weak and I don't have the courage to ride this vehicle.

私は、お茶も飲まずに見学、撮影と回っていましたが、他の3人は、とても英国人らしく、カフェでお茶の時間をとりました。

まあ、J&Sカップルはここには数回、訪れているので、お茶を飲むゆとりはありますね。

Rは、お茶とおしゃべりの方が、見学よりも大切、やっぱり、英国人だ〜〜！

そして私は日本人！(笑)

そう、今思うと、私は蒸気機関車の中でも殆ど席に座っていませんでした。

あちらの窓からこちらの窓から景色を楽しみ、撮影もし、カーブに入ると客車内から自分が乗っている蒸気機関車の撮影を試みていました。

本当に、落ち着きがありませんでした...でもそれは興奮した気持ちの表れであると理解してます。

I walked around to look and photograph, without drinking, though the other three seemed to have a rest drinking tea for a while in the cafe, so British.

Well, J & S couple visited here a few times, so there is plenty of room to drink tea for them.

For R,  tea and chatting are more important than looking on, indeed, he is a British definitely !

And I'm Japanese! ha ha ha.

 Yes, now I think I've hardly ever sat on steam locomotives.

I enjoyed the scenery from this window from that window and took photographs.

When our locomotives entered the curves, I was trying to take photographs of the steam locomotive, I was riding behind, from inside carriage.

I was really restless ... but I realize it's a sign of excitement.




3) 川辺 / Riverside
A. ハイリー駅から / From Highley Railway Station 
ハイリー駅からサヴァーン川の川辺へ降りてゆけます。

You can get off from Highley Railway Station and walk to the bank 
of the River Severn.
駅の方を見上げています。
急なのですが、滑り止めの工夫がされているので、安全に歩けます。
でも、帰りの登りはちょっと辛い？
だからベンチがあるのです！

Looking up to the station.
Although it is steep, it is safe to walk because it is designed to prevent slipping.
However, is the return going to be a little painful?
So there are some benches!




B. 川辺の景色 / Views of Riverside




右下にくつろいでいる方が二人います。
夏休みという感じがします。

There are two people at the bottom right who are relaxing.
I feel summer holiday.



木々や草の間から川を見るのが好きです。
I like looking at a river through trees and grass.

 蒸気機関車に乗っている時とは違う、心の高鳴りが川辺を歩いているとあります。

心がいいな〜、いいな〜と言います。

 蒸気機関車に乗っている時の高揚感はスピードに後押しされ、川辺のウキウキ感は、自分の足の速度で湧き上がってくるのです。

My favourite Apiaceae flowers

手入れされた庭も良いけれど私はこんな野草たちにより惹かれてしまいます。
Though the garden cared for is good I am more attracted to these wildflowers.

 While I walked on the riverside, there was my excitement, though it was different from when I got on steam locomotives.

My heart told me it is good, it is goo~d!

 When I was in steam locomotives, my excitement was boosted by the speed, and my different excitement of the riverside rises at my walking speed.

クロウタドリのメスですね？
英国ではよく見かけます。
私達の庭にもしばしば、カップルでやってきます。
体は黒いけれど、カラスのようにあまり嫌われない鳥。
嘴がオレンジで可愛いし、何と言っても、歌声が良いので好かれるのでしょう。

　スウェーデンの国鳥なのだそうです。

It is a blackbird female, isn't it?
These birds are commonly seen in Britain.
I often see a Blackbird couple which come to our garden.
A bird's body is black, though they are not hated like crows.
Because the beak is a lovely orange, and the singing voice is good after all.

It is a national bird of Sweden.

猫は犬よりも、どこにでもいる印象があります。
生命力があるためなのか、人々により愛されるためなのか？
強い自立心があるからなのか？
野犬は狩られてしまうけれど野良猫は放置だからなのか？
人の知らない間に何度も生き返るからなのか...???

My impression is that cats are everywhere, more than dogs.
Is it because of life force, or more loved by people?
Do they have a strong sense of independence?
Wild dogs are hunted but stray cats are neglected?
Is it because while people do not know, they are reborn many times ... ???




C. 18世紀パブ / 18th Century Pub
"シップ イン / Ship Inn"は、パブで宿屋で、1770年に開業しています。

このパブの開業年を知ったのは、駅にあった炭鉱に関する案内板でした。


"Ship Inn" is a pub & inn that opened in 1770.

It was the signboard (below) about the mine at the station that made me aware of the pub's opening year.


"シップ イン / Ship Inn が1770年にオープンしました。
危険を伴う仕事を一日果たした炭鉱夫が、ここで息抜きしたのです。"
と、いうようなことが説明板に書かれています。

汚れ
この説明板が非常に汚れていたのですが、汚れを伴う炭鉱の説明なので、わざと
綺麗にせず、放置しているのかと感じられました。

本当のところはわかりませんが.....。

説明板のタイトルも、"DIRTY DIGGING : 汚い採掘(穴掘り)" ですしね〜...。


Dirt
This explanation board was very dirty, but it was a description of the coal mine with dirt, so I felt that it was left uncleaned deliberately. 

 I don't know what it is as a matter of fact....

The title of the explanation board is also "DIRTY DIGGING".


建物を見ただけで中には入りませんでした。
I just saw the building and didn't go inside.

英国のパブの多くは、花のバスケットなどで建物を飾っていますが
ここはシンプルです。
(花で飾ってあるけれど小さいです）
川辺で静かに過ごす感じでしょうか？

Many British pubs decorate their buildings with baskets of flowers, 
but here is simple.
(Decorated with flowers but small)
Do people just spend time quietly by the riverside?
