友人J&S、夫Rと私は、蒸気機関車が走る 

"セヴァーン谷鉄道 / Severn Valley Railway : ★" による日帰り旅行をしました。

セヴァーン谷鉄道のサイト : ★ / ★ (英語)

セヴァーン谷鉄道はシュロップシャー州とウスターシャー州にまたがる保存鉄道で、

ブリッジノース駅 / Bridgnorth Railway Station から

キッダーミンスター駅 / Kidderminster Railway Station を結んでいます。

私達は、ブリッジノース駅 / Bridgnorth Railway Station で乗車し、ビュードゥリー駅 / Bewdley Railway Station で下車し、街を散策しました。

その後、折り返して、蒸気機関車博物館 / "Engine House : ★" がある、ハイリー駅 / Highley Railway Staion で下車しました。

ビュードゥリー駅からハイリー駅に向かう途中で、たくさんのヨット(帆船)を見ました。

全く予期していない光景で、ちょっとびっくりしました。

のちに、ここはトリンプ貯水池であることがわかりました。

Later, it turned out to be Triumph Reservoir.

トリンプセーリングクラブでは学習コースを設けています。

初心者は、海よりも貯水池で帆走を学ぶ方が安全なのかもしれません。

The Triumph Sailing Club offers learning courses.
For beginners, it may be safer to learn to sail in the reservoir than in the sea.

I had a day trip by steam locomotives of "Severn Valley Railway : ★" with our friends J&S,  my husband R.

The Severn Valley Railway is a heritage line in Shropshire and Worcestershire, and connects Bridgnorth Railway Station to Kidderminster Railway Station.

We got on at Bridgnorth Railway Station and got off at  Bewdley Railway Station, and we walked in the Town.

Then we turned back and got off at Highley Railway Station, where the "Engine House" is located.

On the way from Bewdely Railway Station to Highley Railway Station, I saw many sails.

I was surprised at the unexpected scene.

2) ハイリー駅 / Highley Railway Station

ハイリー駅

ホームは1つ、駅員も一人。

ハイリー駅は炭鉱地区の輸送の中心でした。
駅は、1862年に開設、1963年に閉鎖されましたが
駅舎も信号扱所も取り壊されずにすみました。

Highley Railway Station

Only one platform and also just one staff.

This Station was the transportation hub of the coal mining area.
The station was opened in 1862 and closed in 1963, 
though the station building and signal yard were not demolished.

ハイリー駅 
砂岩と花々はお互いを惹き立てています。

Sandstone and flowers show attractive to advantage each other.

私にとっては、芙蓉 (フヨウ) の花としては珍しい色です。

確か、芙蓉の花は一日花: 朝咲いて夕方にしぼんでしまう...。

この花の説明には、'次々と花は咲くので嘆くことはない' とよく書かれますが、

やっぱりちょっと悲しくなってしまいます。

この色は深く熟した印象なのに、熟する時間は持たないのですね。

For me, it is a rare colour as a Dixie Rosemallow.

Sure, Dixie Rosemallow's flower is one-day flower : 
it blooms in the morning and then withers in the evening ...

In the description of this flower, it is often written that

'It will not mourn because the flower blooms one after another',

however, I am a little sad after all.

This colour is deeply ripe, but it doesn't have time to ripen it.

左に信号扱所 

信号扱所は、信号や分岐器を操作するために設けられた建物です。

信号扱所は、1969年にAlveley炭鉱が閉鎖されたあとでも、

貨物輸送が停止するまで、使用され続けました。

炭鉱については5) 採掘と炭鉱 / Mining and Coal Miningに書きました。

Signal Box on the Left

Signal Box is a building that is used to operate signals and railroad switches.

The signal box remained in use after closure until Alveley colliery closed 

and freight traffic ceased in 1969.

For coal mines, I wrote in 5) 採掘と炭鉱 / Mining and Coal Mining.

切符売り場 / Ticket Office

ヴィクトリア調ですね？
ホームで切符購入できた機械です。
現在は展示のみだと思います。
昔の機械は昨日追求のみではないデザインで
暖かな表情を感じます。

I think it is only a display at present.

ロンドン・ミッドランド・アンド・スコティッシュ鉄道のマーク

ロンドン・ミッドランド・アンド・スコティッシュ鉄道は、

イギリスに昔、存在した鉄道会社です。

1923年に開業され、1948年に国有化されイギリス国鉄 / British Railways

に組み込まれました。

現在、イギリス国鉄は、

英国鉄道 (ナショナル・レール) / National Railになっています。

Mark of London Midland and Scottish Railway

London, Midland and Scottish Railway was British railway company.

Opened in 1923, it was nationalized in 1948 

and incorporated into the British Railways..

At present, British Railways is called National Rail.

三等車で十分豪華に私には感じられますよ〜！
I can feel luxurious enough even with a third-class carriage!

木の暖かさがあります。

There is wood warmth.

確か、馬か、家畜用の貨車だったと思います。
I think this is a wagon for horse or livestock.

4) 蒸気機関車 "75069" / Steam Locomotive "75069"

"75069"(BR1B)は、"イギリス国鉄 4形 4-6-0蒸気機関車"の1つ。

ロバートアーサー・リドル/ R. A. Riddles (1892- 1983)が設計し、

1955年、グレート・ウェスタン鉄道スウィンドン工場で製造されました。

セヴァーン谷鉄道では11年間走っています。

Steam Locomotive 75069 (BR1B) is one of British Railways Standard Class 4 4-6-0.

it was designed by R. A. Riddles and built at the BR Swindon Works in 1955.
It has worked for 11 years as Severn Valley Railway.

このピカピカさから、ボランティアの方々の努力と誇りと愛情が感じられます。
I can feel the effort, pride and affection of the volunteers from this shinyness.

5) 採掘と炭鉱 / Mining and Coal Mining

博物館の展示 / Engine House's Display

下記は、駅の説明板、博物館の展示、Wikiを元に私が要約しました。

『石の採掘は中世時代から始まり、その石は、セヴァーン川を利用して、

船で積み出されました。

その石はウスター大聖堂 / Worcester Cathedral にも使用されています。

鉄道開設前の数百年、川での輸送はハイレーの人々にとって非常に重要でしたが

1862年ハイリー駅が開設後は川での輸送は激減します。

19世紀後半には大規模な炭鉱操業が始まり、この地域は一変します。

炭鉱夫のための赤煉瓦の家が続々とでき、トンネルや橋も建設され、最盛期には1000名の炭鉱夫が働いていました。

約100年、石炭を供給してきた炭鉱は、1969年に閉鎖されました。

ハイリー駅は1963年に閉鎖され、

この地域は再び穏やかさを取り戻しました。

I summarized based on description board at the Station, Engine House's displays and Wiki : Highley, below.

『The mining of stones began in the medieval times, and the stones were shipped out using the River Severn.

The stone was also used for Worcester Cathedral.

For hundreds of years before the railroad opened, transporting by river was very important to people of Highley.

After the opening of Highley Railway Station in 1862, transport on the river dropped sharply.

In the late 19th century, large-scale coal mining operations began, and this area changed completely.

Red brick houses for coal miners were built one after another, tunnels and bridges were built, and at its peak, 1,000 miners were working.

The coal mine, which has supplied coal for about 100 years, was closed in 1969.

The area has regained its calm again.

But Highley is full of people discovering the exciting parts of Highley.
