聖メアリー教会
は、この地に少なくとも800年建っています。
現在の建物は、1478年から1519年に建てられたもので、
塔は1608年に完成されました。
英国の文化財指定建造物 / Listed
building の 'グレード I
/ Grade I '
に指定されています。
鐘塔 : 'Cambridge Quarters' (★)
1723年に10個の鐘が設置され、1770年には12個になりました。
現在は、13個になっています。
ビッグ・ベンの音は、1859年にここのケンブリッジの鐘から
コピーされたと言われています。
Church
of St Mary the Great, Cambridge (★)
This church has been here for at least 800 years.
The present building was built from 1478 to 1519 and the tower finished in 1608.
It
is a Grade I Listed
Building.
The Bell Tower : 'Cambridge Quarters' (★)
In 1723 there were 10 bells and in 1770 there were 12.
Today there are 13 bells.
They say the sound of the Cambridge Quarters was copied for Big Ben in 1859.

私は古い建物が好きで、自ずと教会に行くことが多くなります。
お城の場合は、遺跡になっていることも多いですが、
教会は現在でも教会として機能しつつ、
建物も古くから残されているものも多いように感じます。
破壊されているので、遺跡が多いですけれど。
この教会は、800年も続いているのですね。
人の命は短いけれど、神に願ったり、すがったりする人の心は
違う見方をすると、人は、テクノロジーは進歩させても
精神は、たいして進歩しない (できない) イキモノなのでしょう。
Entrance
I
like old buildings automatically, I visit churches often.
In
the case of castles, often they are ruins,
although
I feel churches often have carried on as church and
their
buildings have existed for a long time.
However,
Abbeys were destroyed by Henry VIII (1491 -1547/ reign 1509 -
1547)
in
Britain, so most of the Abbeys are ruins.
This church has continued for 800 years, hasn't it?
Human's
lives are short, although the desire of humans to pray or entreat
has been here for at least 800 years which make my feeling
that humans are mysterious creatures. (Of course Christianity history is much longer.)
If
I think about it differently I would say human's technology has
been improved,
although
human's mentality hasn't changed so much. |

| ここは、キングス・カレッジ・チャペルのように有料ではないので、 気持ちの寄付金と、ショップで、ケンブリッジのパンフレットを購入しました。 King's College Chapel has a charge, though here is free, so I donated a token of my gratitude and bought the Cambridge pamphlet at their shop. |

| 建物の修理を雨の日に関わらずしていました。 They work for repairing building even though it was raining. |

| 椅子の脚を握るヘンリー8世 学生のいたづらと言われています。 ヘンリー8世が修道院を破壊し没収した財産の一部をつぎ込んで、 建てたカレッジ。 奥さんも何回も変えましたし、彼は人々から、 あまり愛されていないのかもしれません。 いたづらをそのままにしているところが皮肉ジョーク好きの 英国人の判断とも言えますし、笑ってすませる、 英国紳士としての太っ腹なところでもあるのかな？ 女性が関与していないと考える自分がちょっと悲しい... この街で男性社会を感じるのは私だけでしょうか？ Henry VllI holds chair leg They say it was a student practical joke. Henry VIII destroyed the Abbeys and took their property and he used some of the proceeds for founding this College. He changed a few of his wives so that people do not seem to love him. The practical joke has been left alone which is decided by British who like sarcastic jokes or this is a matter which can be laughed away by British Gentlemen who are tolerant. I thought women did not get involved and I feel a little sad myself.... Do only I feel this town is male-dominated society? |

| ランチの後の時間だったせいか、待たずに座れました。 It seemed to be after lunch time, so we could get our table without waiting. |

| 'スモーキー・ラプサンスーチョン' 私は 'スモキー・ラプサンスーチョン' ティをいただきました。 多くの人が 'ラプサン・スーチョン' は苦手のようです。 日本人は正露丸の匂いがすると言ってかなり嫌いな人が多い印象があります。 私は大好きで、特に疲れた時には、'ラプサン・スーチョン' 系の 紅茶を飲むとホッとします。 下記Wikiより "日本でしばしばその香りが正露丸にたとえられるのは、 正露丸の主成分であるクレオソートの香りが 松葉による燻香とほぼ同じだからである" 'Smoky Lapsang' I had a pot of 'Smoky Lapsang' tea. Many people seems to hate 'Lapsang Souchong'. My impression is that a few Japanese feel it smells like Seirogan : a pharmaceutical drug marketed in Japan, and many of them do not enjoy this type of tea. I love it , especially when I am tired and have this type of tea, I could be relaxed. |

5) ケム川 / River Cam
ケム川 / River Camに架かる橋が、ケンブリッジの名前の由来と言われています。
They say the name of Cambridge came form a bridge spanning the River Cam.

ようやく、ノース・ヨークシャー旅行が終了します。
Conclusion
たくさんの思い出と素敵な景色が心に残りました。
旅は、頭と、心をリフレッシュさせ、活性化させてくれます。
私にとっては '美術館効果' と似ているように思います。
どちらも、そこに、日常ではない世界があるからかもしれませんね。
違う世界に行くことによって、日常生活を違う角度から見直すことにもなります。
修正部分があったり、これで良いという部分があったり....
まあね、人生そのものが旅のようなものなので、本当の旅の終わりは生きているうちにはこないのかもしれません。

Conclusion
At last North Yorkshire Trip is finished.
I have many memories and beautiful views in my heart.
Travels make my brain and heart refreshed and revitalized.
For me, the effect is similar to 'Museum of Art Effect'.
Both might have different worlds from daily life.
I go to different worlds and then I could review my daily life.
I would change some part or leave some part...
Well, our life is similar to a journey so that the true end might not come while I am alive.
