I and R had a walk in Hereford.
ヘレフォード大聖堂は、聖公会 (英国聖公会 / イングランド国教会)に属し、
聖母マリア / St Mary the Virgin とエセルベルト王 / St Ethelbert the King (? - 794) の
2人の聖人に捧げられています。
ヘレフォード大聖堂の守護者は、聖母マリアとエセルベルト王とも言えます。

このセクションは主に屋外からの建物についてを載せ、ヘレフォード図については後のセクションに載せます。

I and R had a walk in Hereford.
In this section, I put visiting of Hereford Cathedral : ★ which is well known for having the Hereford Mappa Mundi.
See our walking earlier, below.
From the west (left of the map, above) we entered the Hereford Cathedral grounds.
The Hereford Cathedral belongs to the Anglican Diocese of Hereford and is dedicated to the two saints, St Mary the Virgin and St Ethelbert the King (? - 794).
In other words, the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Ethelbert are joint patrons of Hereford Cathedral.

However, for the general people it is more interesting to see the Hereford Mappa Mundi.....I guess.
Well, at least for me!
This section focuses primarily on outdoor buildings, and the Hereford Mappa Mundi in a later section.

お城と違って教会だからでしょうか？

I like this combination.
This decoration looks pretty elegant.
Because is it for a church, not for a castle, isn't it?

ヘレフォード大聖堂は、'イギリス重要建造物のグレードI' に指定された建物です。
現在の建物の最古の部分である主教の礼拝堂は11世紀のものですが、大聖堂の場所は8世紀以前に崇拝の場所になりました。
長い時代の中で、様々な部分が建造され、崩壊(自然・人的理由)され、再建され、増築され、今も、修繕されているようでした。
Hereford Cathedral is a 'Grade I listed building'.
The site of the cathedral became a place of worship in the 8th century or earlier although the oldest part of the current building, the bishop's chapel, dates to the 11th century.
Over a long time, various parts seemed to have been built, collapsed (natural and human reasons), rebuilt, expanded, and still now being repaired.

私の写真には写っていませんが、多くの人がこの芝の上で寛いでいました。
公園のように使用しているようでした。
住民にとっての憩いの場なのだな〜と感じました。
From North East
Although not shown in my photographs, many people were relaxing on this grass.
They seemed to use here like a park.
I felt it was a place of relaxation for the residents. |

おそらく仮設であろう小屋も雰囲気があって素敵です。 古木を使用しているのでしょうか？ Woodwork or Stonework The shack, which is probably temporary, has a good atmosphere and is lovely. Are you using old wood? |

屋根に花
英国で、遺跡 (廃墟) を見にゆくと、時々遺跡から花が咲いています。
その小さな景色にいつも惹かれます。
大聖堂は遺跡になっていないけれど、
遺跡と同じくらいの年月を過ごしているせいか、 同じ魅力があります。
Flowers on Roof
When I go to ruins in Britain, sometimes flowers are blooming from the ruin.
I am always attracted to the small scenery.
Although the Cathedral is not a ruin, it has the same charm,
probably because it is as old as many ruins.

彼はヘレフォードのアイン・ヒルのプラス・グウィンに
1904年から1911年住んでいました。
彼は、1934年に亡くなる前の1933年に、
"3つの聖歌隊フェスティバル / "Three Choirs Festival"の
指揮者としてヘレフォードを訪れました。
He lived at Plas Gwyn, Eign Hill, in Hereford from 1904 to 1911.
He visited Hereford as a conductor at the "Three Choirs Festival" in 1933
prior to his death in 1934.

少なくとも私にとっては！
ヘレフォード大聖堂の北側の隅で、自転車に寄りかかって、大聖堂を見上げています。
嬉しくて、そして、この彫像が私好みであったので、何枚も写真を撮ってしまいました。
あ〜っ！彼の後ろ姿と大聖堂を一緒に撮影していなかったことが悔やまれます...。

In the northern corner of the Cathedral, leaning on a bicycle, looking up at the Cathedral.
I was glad, and I liked this statue, so I took many photographs.
Ah! I regret not having photographed his back with the cathedral.
Now, the song of 'The Proms' : “The Pomp and Circumstance Marches” is flowing into my head and I can't stop!

細長い赤茶色の屋根が
"セント・ジョージズ歩廊 / St John's Walk"
です。
An elongated red-brown roof is "St. John's Walk". 
この歩廊は、大聖堂と本部 (控え室 / 事務所/ College) を繋ぎ、
牧師聖歌隊 (Vicars Choral) が日々の奉仕 (聖歌合唱) のために使います。

セント・ジョージズ歩廊と塔 / St John's Walk and Tower 歩廊から大聖堂を見る 元の歩廊は15世紀後半に作られましたが 2016年に改修されました。 梁に木彫が見られます。 Look at the Cathedral from the Walk. The original Walk was created in the late 15th Century, though its renovation was completed in 2016. We can see wood carving on the beams.  外からの歩廊 The Walk from outside 
大聖堂側から南を見る
突き当たりには石細工のコレクションがあります。歩廊や回廊は大好き！ 実は、礼拝堂、身廊などのメインの場所よりも 回廊などの方が好きなのです。

| セント・ジョージズ歩廊のゲート 左側に装飾された石が積まれています。 Gate of St John's Walk On the left are decorated stones which are piled up.  中世に作られた砂岩の石細工のコレクション ここには1786年イースターの月曜日(4月17日)、大聖堂史最大の火災で、 崩壊した西の塔の残骸も含まれています。 Collection of medieval stonework of sandstone Here includes the remains of a west tower that collapsed by the Cathedral's largest fire on Easter Monday, 1786 (17th of April).

ヘレフォード大聖堂学校の校舎は、大聖堂の南東と北東の二箇所にあり、また、
お城通り(キャッスル・ストリート) / Castle Street には、多数の建物があるようです。
元々は、大聖堂の聖歌隊の教育のために中世前期にでき、現在では独立したグラマー・スクール (中学・高校) になっています。

落書きと手書きのメモがつけられています。
それらは聖歌隊の少年たちに手によるものかもしれません。
イソップ物語は、子供たちにラテン語を教えるために
使用された人気のある本でした。
少年達は、本に繰り返し登場する「ナイン・ドット・ゲーム」などの
気晴らしを楽しみました。"

Hereford Cathedral School
There are two school buildings of the Hereford Cathedral School, southeast and northeast of the Cathedral, and also many of the buildings in Castle Street.
It was originally created in the early Middle Ages to educate the cathedral choir, and is now an independent grammar school.
