A. 明治蔵 / Meijigura

姉Yと私は、枕崎駅前の観光案内所の勧めで、明治蔵 : ★へ行きました。

薩摩酒造 (サツマシュゾウ) や明治蔵の名前は知りませんでしたが、薩摩酒造で作られている 焼酎の "さつま白波" の名前は知っていました。

私自身は甘いものよりも、アルコール類が好きなので、アリが砂糖に吸い寄せられるように、私は明治蔵をめざしました(笑)。

鹿児島県枕崎市立神本町26番地
薩摩酒造 (サツマシュゾウ)の本社の敷地に明治蔵があります。
遠くからも明治蔵の位置がわかります。
明治蔵では、一般の人が製造工程の見学ができます。
明治蔵では、明治時代から焼酎を製造しています。
薩摩酒造の会社設立は昭和 (1936年) です。

 Kado River Distillery・Meijigura
(Satsuma Shuzo・Meijigura)
26 Kamimoto-cho, Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture.
I can see the location of Meijigura even from a distance.

The Meijigura is located on the site of the head office 

of Satsuma Shuzo.

The general public can observe the manufacturing process.

Meijigura has been producing Shōchū since the Meiji era.

Satsumashozou was established as a company in 1936.

My sister Y and I went to Meijigura on the recommendation of the tourist information centre in front of Makurazaki Station.

I didn't know the name of Satsumashuzo or Meijigura, but 

I knew the name of Shōchū ・"Satsuma Shiranami" made by Satsumashozou Brewery.

Personally, I prefer alcoholic beverages to sweets, so I set my sights on Meijigura, just like ants are attracted to sugar (Laugh).

According to Wiki about Shōchū,

"Shōchū (Japanese: 焼酎) is a Japanese distilled beverage. 

It is typically distilled from rice, barley, sweet potatoes, buckwheat, or brown sugar, though it is sometimes produced from other ingredients such as chestnut, sesame seeds, potatoes, or even carrots.

Typically shōchū contains 25% alcohol by volume, which is weaker than baijiu, whiskey or vodka but stronger than huangjiu, sake or wine. 

It is not uncommon for multiply distilled shōchū, which is more likely to be used in mixed drinks, to contain up to 35% alcohol by volume."

明治蔵で、焼酎と泡盛の英語版を見つけました。

日本語版はなかったので、外国人観光客向けに作られた小冊子ですね。

At Meijigura, I found about "Shōchū & Awamori" in English.

There was no Japanese version, so it's a booklet made for foreign tourists, isn't it?

2) 入り口 / Entrance

明治蔵敷地内
工場らしい建物ですが、何のためのものなのかはわかりません。

It looks like a factory building, but I don't know what it's for.

入場、無料です。
Y入りの正面玄関の写真しかありません。
Yの許可を得てこれを載せます。

福神草 / Crêpe Ginger
帰り際に、入り口前で、珍しい花が活けられていました。
スタッフの方が、花の名前は、福神草 (フクジンソウ)と、
教えてくれました。
その後検索すると、ショウガ科で、別名に
オオホザキアヤメ（大穂咲き菖蒲）、
ケイロコスツス・スペキオスス
があります。
観賞用にも薬用にも栽培されます。
気候が合えば、自生もし、ハワイでは帰化植物です。

福神草 / Crêpe Ginger

On our way back, a rare flower

 was arranged in front of the entrance.

A staff member told us that the name was Fukujinso : Crêpe Ginger.

Later I searched, I found that it belongs to the Zingiberaceae order 

and is also known as Cheilocostus Speciosus 

and Cheirocostus Spekiosus.

It is cultivated for both ornamental and medicinal purposes.

If the climate is right, it can grow wild and

 is a naturalized plant in Hawaii.

Branch of 

Camphora Officinarum or Camphor Tree

This was excavated from 4m underground in 2003.

They thought this dated from 300 ~ 600 AD

because it was attached to the SuePottery 

from the Kofun Period (about 300 to 538 AD) in Japan.

In Japan, Sue pottery was a blue-gray form of stoneware pottery 
fired at high temperature, which was produced
during the Kofun, Nara, and Heian periods.

なぜ、この '黒クス'がここに展示されているのかはわかりませんが、薩摩酒造さんの地域貢献かな？と推測します。

I don't know why this is on display here,  I guess it's Satsumashozou Brewery's contribution to the community? 

3) 明治蔵の職人達 / Craftsmen of Meijigura

Craftsmen of Meijigura

The craftsmen of Meijigura have inherited

 the manufacturing method from the Meiji period.

There are figures that faithfully and humorously expresses

 and reproduce the craftsmen.

よくできている人形達で、楽しく見ました。

The figures are well made and I enjoyed looking at them.

滞在しています。

本日、この旅行の目的の『第3回枕崎国際芸術賞展』に行きました。

展覧会については下記。

この展覧会は、枕崎市文化資料センター南溟館 (鹿児島県枕崎市山手町175番地)で開催されていました。

南溟館の屋外には、"風の芸術展" の立体作品が設置されています。

Nanmei Museum of Art 

Since yesterday, my sister Y and I have been staying in Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture.

Today, we went to 'The 3rd Makurazaki International Art Award Exhibition', which was the main purpose of this trip.

This exhibition was held in the Nanmei Museum of Art (175 Yamate-cho, Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture).

A three-dimensional work of the "Wind Art Exhibition" is installed outside the Nanmei Museum of Art.

2) 青空美術館 / Blue Sky Museum

南溟館のほかにも、枕崎のまちなかにも立体作品は設置され、

 '青空美術館' と呼んでいます。

このセクションで、私達が枕崎観光をしている中で、見かけ、写真撮影のチャンスがあった作品をお見せします。

Blue Sky Art Museum (Sculpture) Map : ★
This is the information board installed at Makurazaki Station.
I can see that Makurazaki City puts a lot of effort into art.

Blue Sky Museum

In addition to the Museum, three-dimensional works are also installed in the town of Makurazaki, which is an 'Aozora Museum': 'Blue Sky Museum'.

In this section, I show you some of the works I saw and had the chance to photograph during our Makurazaki sightseeing.

市役所通りには、27作品設置されています。

私達は、枕崎駅前の観光案内所に寄ったあと、

薩摩酒造 (サツマシュゾウ)・明治蔵 : ★を目指して歩きました。

市役所通を歩いたので、いくつかの作品を撮影しました。

市役所通りには、立体作品だけでなく、平面作品が看板となって、設置されていました。

『第3回枕崎国際芸術賞展』の旗もかかっており、市全体で、この展覧会を支援しているのことがわかりました。

There are 27 works installed on Town Hall Street.

After stopping by the tourist information centre in front of the Makurazaki Station, we walked towards Satsuma Shuzo and Meijigura Store : ★.

As I walked down City Hall Street, I took some pictures.

On City Hall Street, not only three-dimensional works but also two-dimensional works were installed as signboards.

The flag of the "3rd Makurazaki International Art Award Exhibition" is also hanging, and I understand that the whole city supports this exhibition.

最初の作品
市役所通りを歩き出して、最初に目にした作品です。

First Work
This is the first work I saw when I walked down City Hall Street.

作：田中伸季
上の写真の作品と同じ作家さんでした。

古代の彫刻のように感じます。
お髭部分も含めて、可愛らしい。

"I・KI・MO・NO"

It was the same artist as the one pictured above.

I feel this is like an ancient sculpture.

Cute, including the beard.

"IKIMONO" means creature.

外灯と作品の若木部分が重なって見え、
おもしろいな〜と思い撮影しました。

I thought it would be fun to see the street lights and
the young tree part of the work overlapping, so I photographed.

作品タイトルは、'根菜類'ですが
この場所にあると、聖人像かと思ってしまいます。

The title of the work is 'Root Vegetable', but if I see this in this place,
I might think that this is a statue of a saint.

カラフル貝殻
一般の方が、貝殻を用いて壁面を飾っています。
きっとアートストリートを意識されたのでしょう。

Colorful Seashell

An ordinary person has used seashells to decorate the walls.

I'm sure the person was conscious of the art street.

総合して、人通りも、車の交通量も多くないように感じました。

少なくとも、100作品は、町に設置されているはずです。

それらの作品は、街の雰囲気を盛り立て、行き交う人々に、質の良い楽しみを与えていると思います。

Overall, I felt that there weren't many people or cars.

There must be at least 100 works installed in the town.

I believe that these works liven up the atmosphere of the city and provide high-quality enjoyment to the people who come and go.
