1) 最もお気に入り / My Most Favourite
'Chun 釉/ Chun Glaze' は、英国の学生時から、私の最もお気に入りで、使用回数も一番です。
透明釉の一つです。
磁器土そのものの色を出すのが好きなので、使用しています。
英国の磁器土、有田磁器土、九谷磁器土などみな磁器土ですが、土の色が違い、焼成後にもその違いが透明釉を使用するとわかります。
Chun 釉は、もとのレシピが英語なので、日本で初めて作るときに多少 (自分にとってはすごく）苦労しました。
全く同じものが作れてはいないでしょうけれど、かなり近いので使用しています。
市販の透明釉も優れていると思いますが、だしはかつをと昆布から、珈琲は豆から手挽き、紅茶はポットでという私のサガに由来し、これも自分で作っています。
現在の窯に力がないので、大学の時のように高温 (1260-80℃) で焼けず、
透明感が落ちます(下記の写真)。
新しいヒーター線に変えたとしても、窯を保たせるためには、1230℃で焼成するので、この透明感で妥協です。
窯のことを思わなければ、高温 (1260-80℃) で焼きたい〜〜！
今の釉薬は、前回個展(2012年:下記)準備の終盤に作りました。

そのときの焼成後に全く透明感が出なかったので、失敗したかと思いました。
何回作ったか忘れるほど作っていて、初めて透明感が出なかったので、かなり
ショックを受けました。
それでも捨てきれずに持っていて、今回焼成してみたら透明感が出たので安心しました。
以前は窯に問題があったのだとあらためて思います。
窯も使い続けていたので、疲れてたのですね。
「ごめんね、私の窯くん！」と謝りつつ、現在も毎日焼成をかけています。(苦笑)
私の窯、いつまでもってくれるでしょうか....。

My Most Favourite
Chun Glaze has been my most favourite since I was a student in Britain and I have used it most frequently.
This is one of the transparent glazes.
I would like to show porcelain's own colour, so I use this.
The colours of British porcelain, Arita porcelain and Kutani porcelain are different and after firing they are different with transparent glazes, too.
Original recipe is in English, it was a little (for me, very) difficult when I first made it in Japan.
I think I don't make exactly the same glaze as the original, although my Japanese one is similar, so I use it.
I think commercial glazes excel.
However, I make this glaze myself which comes from my disposition; I would make Japanese stock from dry fish and seaweed, for coffee I should grind the beans by hand, tea should use a pot.
The current kiln does not have enough power, so it cannot be fired up to 1260-80℃ as in British University, therefore the feeling of transparency is not as strong (above photographs).
Even if the heat wires are changed I should use 1230℃ to keep the kiln working for longer, so I must have compromise.
If I do not care about the kiln, I really would have my firing to high temperature : 1260-80℃~~~!
The present 'Chun Glaze' was made near the end of my prepartion for my previous exhibition, 2012 (below).
At that time, the glaze did not have any transparency after firing, so I thought I had failed in making the glaze.
I could not remember how many times I had made the glaze and it was my first failure, and then I was very shocked.
However, I cannot discard it, have kept it and this time, I tried to fire and then it came out transparent!
I think again it has been a problem with the kiln.
The kiln was exhausted, because it had worked every day at that time.
I say I am sorry for my kiln as well as trying to use it the same as before.(Wry Smile)
I wonder how long my kiln will last....
2) 還元焼成のための釉薬
Glazes for Reduction Firing
青磁色は還元焼成によって作ります。
還元焼成をしなくとも、青磁色に似た色を出す釉薬もあり、陶土でも使用できるので、そちらの方がコストも手間もかかりません。
私は現在は還元焼成をして青磁色を作っています。
その行為そのものが面白いですし、毎回違う表情を見られるのも楽しいです。

人からいただいた釉薬: 茶壺青磁釉
今回、初使用、こんな感じなのね〜と確認。
ゆくゆくは日本でも自分で還元用の釉薬を作ってみたいと思うのですが、
私のレシピが英語版なのでそろえるのに苦労するのと焼成回数が少ないのとで
現在は市販品を使用しています。
この釉薬、気に入っています。

difficult for the same reason as Chun Glaze is difficult.Also the

還元焼成後
サヤ鉢に炭を入れ、蓋(棚)をのせて焼成します(上の写真)。
中は還元焼成、蓋の上は通常の焼成 (酸化焼成) ができます(下の写真)。
After Reduction Firing
The reduction firing uses charcoals in a saggar with a shelf as a lid (above ).
It can make a reduction firing in the box and
a normal or an oxidation firing on the lid: the shelf (below).

Glazes for Reduction Firing
Celadon colours are made by reduction firings.
Even though some glaze colours are similar to celadon which do not have a reduction firing and they can use earthenware clay, so they are cheaper.
I make my celadon colour by reduction firings.
I enjoy the way every firing makes different expressions of the colours, it is fun!

日本では泥漿(デイショウ)と呼ばれるのかもしれません。
下の'トフトウエアー'のような柄を作るときは、大きなスポイト(★)を用います。
私は、絞り袋を用いて生クリームで、ケーキのデコレーションを施すときと似ていると思います。
日本では、イッチンという技法にあたるようです。

When the picture on the dish is made like below they use a big pipette.
I think it is similar to making decorations on a cake by using a pastry bag with fresh cream.

4)市販の釉薬/ Commercial Glazes
英国の学生時ではいっさい使用しなかった市販の釉薬も、日本では使用しています。
ずっと簡単です。
釉薬の原材料はある程度の量が基準なので、小さな陶芸教室が開けてしまうかと思うほど買わなくてはなりません。
なので、ちょっと使ってみたいという程度では、原材料をそろえることは私には難しく、お試しくらいの気持ちは、市販釉薬購入が簡単です。
でも、市販釉薬はもとのレシピがわからないので、自分で同じものを作るのも難しく、結局はそれを購入し続けることになります。

Commercial Glazes
When I was a student in Britain, I had never used commercial glazes, although in Japan, I use them.
They are very easy.
When raw materials are sold the quantities are more than I need so I must buy them as though I were managing a small ceramic lesson class.
Therefore it is difficult if I want make a little of a glaze, the commercial glazes are much easier for me.
However, I do not know the recipes of the commercial glazes and it was hard to make the same glaze myself and so after all I have carried on buying them.
