1) 美術館への道 / Toward The Museum
外に出ると大雨でした! 近いはずなのですが、土地勘はないし、周りは高いビルばかりで、方向がわからず、お子様づれの女性に聞いて
美術館方面へ向かいました。
Osaka Science Museum
I went out, it was poring! It should be close, although I did not have the feel of the place at all and just could only see high buildings around there, so again I did not know which way I should go.
I asked a woman with her child for directions.
C.国立国際美術館 / the International Museum of Art
マン•レイ (1890-1976) の名前は知っていても、詳しいことは知りません。
タマ美の学才時代に"GRAPHIS"という雑誌を図書館で見たり、古本屋で買ったりしていました。
その雑誌に彼の写真があったので、私は写真家のマン•レイとして覚えていました。
その後、いくつかの美術館で彼の作品を見ましたが、すべて写真であったように記憶しています。
もしかしたら、他の作品があっても私の記憶に残らなかっただけかもしれません。
I know his name Man Ray (1890-1976) , although I do not know much about him.
When I was a Japanese art student, I looked at the magazine "GRAPHIS" in the library or I bought some of them in secondhand bookshops.
I remember that some of the magazine printed his works which were all photographs.
So I thought he was just a photographer. Moreover, I looked at his works in museums or galleries in Japan or other country mainly Britain somewhere.
I only remember seeing photographs.

地下鉄中之島線、渡辺駅で下車。
あがってゆくと、住友中之島ビル内に出てきました。
彫刻が飾られ、なんとなく美術館へ誘なわれている気がします。
しかし、どちらの出口へいったらよいものやら、
どちらの入り口にも彫刻があったのです。
オロオロ……
足の調子が悪いから余分に歩きたくないな〜.........。
Got off Watanabe Station in the underground Nakanoshima Line.
I walked up from the station and arrived in the building.
The ground floor has sculpture,
so I felt I was following the trail strait into
the International Museum of Art, Osaka.
However, I felt that I was in a maze,
because both ways have sculpture.
Oh! No!
My leg was not in good condition,
so I wouldn't do any extra walking.

美術館と思って雨の中にもかかわらず、興奮して写真を撮っていたら、そこは大阪市立科学博物館であると気がつきました。
ちゃんと窓に書いてある！

科学博物館は好きですが、その日は国立国際美術館へ行きたかったのです。
悲しい........

大きすぎて私のカメラでは全貌はとらえきれません。
雨が降っているから、良い位置を探す気力はありません。
The International Museum of Art I could not catch whole building, it is big. It was raining heavily,
so I wouldn't go to the trouble of finding a better position.

I enjoyed there, for example it was interesting that his relationships with his friends influence his motivation for contemporary art or modern art.
3) 留学 / Abroad Study
国立国際美術館でKaori ちゃんと待ち合わせをしました。
初めて彼女に会ったのは東京で、二人ともイラストレーターでした。
Kaori ちゃんはニューヨークへ行き抽象画の勉強をしていました。
私達は殆ど同じ時期に留学をしていました。
お互いにいっぱいいっぱいで、頻繁には連絡できませんでしたが、
時折、Eメールや手紙、はがきで、米国と英国での近況報告をしあいました。
偶然にも本帰国を決心した頃も一緒でした。

Abroad Study
We met in this museum. When we first met in Tokyo, we were both illustrators.
She went to New York to study abstract painting. We study abroad at similar times.
We both had hard lives so we could not connect often, although occasionally we did by e-mail, letters and postcards between U,S,A and Britain.
Coincidentally, we decided coming home country at about the same time.

4) 彼女の絵 / Her Painting
私は彼女の抽象画が大好きです。
情念もあり、洗練された色使いがあり、絵に力があります。
彼女の絵は何故か、小川洋子さんの小説の世界を思い起こさせます。
マンレイ展の後に常設展も私は見ましたが、そこに彼女の作品がないのが不思議でなりませんでした。
私が本当に残念なのは、彼女の絵をポストカードやネット上でしか
見たことがないことです。
昨年の夏、彼女は地元、大阪で個展をしました。
そのとき私は英国に短期滞在(6〜9月)していましたので、
見る事ができなかったのです。
いつか、彼女の作品を実際に見たいものです。

Her Painting
I love her paintings very much.
I think the paintings have emotions and refine colour and power.
Somehow her painting reminds me of Yoko Ogawa's novels.

It is a real disappointment that I haven' t ever seen her painting directly, I just looked at her painting in Internet, her postcard and home printing.
She had her own exhibition in Tajiri Historic House in Osaka last summer, while I stayed in Britain, June to September, so I could not see them.
One day I would like to see her actual paintings.
