1) ポスター / Poster 

8月11日に、七里ヶ浜・桜プロムナードで、七里ヶ浜の花火大会のポスターを見つけました。

七里ヶ浜高校の校庭から花火をあげるとポスターに説明されていました。

我が家からも花火が見られるのではないかと期待！

8月22日は満月です。

満月の夜空に花火が上がるのは、どんな様子なのかと思い巡らしました。

We saw posters for a Fireworks Display.

Poster 

On 11th of August, I found a poster for 'Shichirigahama Fireworks Festival' at the Shichirigahama Sakura Promenade.

It was explained in the poster that fireworks would be fired from the schoolyard of Shichirigahama High School.

I expected I could see fireworks from our home!

22nd of August is the full moon.

I wondered what it would be like to see fireworks rising in the night sky of the full moon.

今年の6月に、ネイティブ・アメリカンが各月の満月にそれぞれ名前をつけいていることを知りました (下記)。

8月の満月はスタージョンムーン。

五大湖に棲息する大型魚であるスタージョン（チョウザメ）が最も

よく獲れる月であったことから、漁師の部族が命名しました。

私と夫Rは、家から徒歩1分もかからない、花火がよく見えるであろうひらけた場所を知っていました。

Rは開始時間8時が待ちきれず、7時半に出かけました。

ですが、しばらくすると戻ってきて

「何人か、もう来ている。

誰か小犬を連れていて、その犬に吠えられちゃったよ」

と言うのです。

まだ早いな〜と思いつつ、蚊への対策とマスクをし、彼と一緒に出かけました。

Full Moon and Fireworks

In June of this year, I found out that Native Americans named each full moon of each month, below.

The full moon in August is Sturgeon Moon.

It was named by the fishermen's tribe because it was the month when Sturgeon, a large fish that lives in the Great Lakes, was most often caught.

The fireworks went up in a direction almost 90 degrees different from the Sturgeon Moon.

I and my husband R knew an open place where we would see the fireworks well, less than a minute's walk from our house.

R couldn't wait for the start time of 8 o'clock, so he went out at 7:30pm.

But after a while he came back and said

"Several people are already there. Somebody has a small dog which barks."

Thinking that it was still early, but I took measures against mosquitoes, put a mask and went out with him.

最初は霞んでいた満月が徐々に鮮明にその形を表してきました。

The full moon, which was initially hazy, 

gradually became more vivid.

PCで彩度をあげています。
This has increased Colorfulness by my PC.

花火は、スタージョンムーンと

ほぼ90度違う方角に上がりました。

The fireworks went up in a direction almost 90 degrees different 

from Sturgeon Moon.

集まった人々は子供も含めて 15 ~ 20人ほどいらしたと思います。

どなたかが話をこぼれ聞くと、七里ヶ浜の商店街や住人の方による花火らしく、10分ほどで終わるとのことでした。

そして、その通りでした。

ほぼ全ての花火大会が中止になっている中で貴重な花火でした。

またとても満足もしました。

そういえば、七里ヶ浜住宅街では、昨年、ハローウィンのイベントも開催していました。

七里ヶ浜の住人の方々には、反抗精神のようなものがあるのだな〜と感じます。

色々な形の花火が上がり、短時間の中でのバリエーションの多さに感動！

最後のフィナーレを動画で撮影を試みましたが、オンとオフのスイッチを入れ違えて映像に残せませんでした。

残念ではありますが、私の心には残りました。

I tried to take a video of the finale, but I couldn't have the video by my mistake for switching on and off.

It was unfortunate, however, it remained in my mind.

 B. 和風名月

      Wafuumeigetsu (Old Japanese Month Names)

月に関心を寄せるのは、日本人も同様です。

それ以上かもしれません、何しろ旧暦は月を中心にしており、日本の多くの伝統行事は月の満ち欠けと関連しています。

和風名月 (ワフウメイゲツ) の呼び名があり、8月は、葉月です。

木々の葉落ち月 (ハオチヅキ) に由来します。

(和風月名の月は、旧暦を元にしているので、現在の季節感とは

1～2ヶ月ほどのずれがあります。)

和風名月の呼び名の響きは、情緒があります。

生まれ月の和風名月の名を持つ日本人女性は少なからずいるように思います。

親御さんが娘さんに、暗い夜でも光を与え、美しく育つよう、願いを込めた名なのでしょう。

この'情緒感' は日本人にしか理解できないものかもしれません。

Wafuumeigetsu (Old Japanese Month Names)

The Japanese are also interested in the moon.

Maybe more, after all, Lunar Calendar : Old Calendar is centered around the moon, and many traditional events in Japan are associated with the phases of the moon.

Although Japanese traditional month names : Wafuumeigetsu are based on Lunar Calendar : Old Calendar, there is as a difference of about 1 to 2 months from the current sense of the seasons.

There are the Japanese traditional month names: "Wafuumeigetsu", and August is Hazuki.

It is derived from the fallen leaves of the trees (Haochi-zuki).

The sounds of the Japanese-style names of the moon have emotional feel ; Joucho.

I think there are quite a few Japanese women who have the name of "Wafuumeigetsu" of the month of their birth.

It is probably that parents wish their daughters would be light even in the dark and to grow up to be beautiful.

This Joucho (emotional feeling) may be something that only Japanese people can understand.

1) テッポウユリ / Easter Lily

駐車場からの百合
例年よりもずっと背が高くなり、ようやく咲いた
テッポウユリ(鉄砲百合)です。

Easter Lily is finally blooming, much taller than usual.

見上げる位置で開花するとは全く思っても見ませんでした。
I never thought that it would bloom when I looked up.

百合は二箇所で咲いています。

こちらは先に咲いていたテッポウユリです。

Easter Lily
This is the lily that bloomed earlier.

2) タマスダレ / White Windflower

タマスダレ
タマスダレ(玉簾)は3.4年前に鉢から地植えに変えました。
どの場所が合うのかわからなかったので、
3箇所ほどに分けました。
庭全体で1つ2つほど花が咲くか咲かない状態が続いていました。
それが今年は複数咲いています。

White Windflower

'White Windflower' were changed from pots to 

ground planting 3.4 years ago.

I didn't know which place would suit, so I divided them

 into about three places.

One or two flowers continued to bloom or not bloom in our garden.

They are in bloom more than once this year.

野原に咲いているような感じが好きです。
I like the feeling of blooming in the field.

時間が経つと花びらが平らになるくらい開きます。

3) ヤブランとタマスダレ 

     Lilyturf and White Windflower

タマスダレを地植えした1つが、ヤブラン (藪蘭) のそばにあります。

このヤブランはタマスダレよりは花は咲かせていましたが、目立つほどには花が咲かず、私はオリヅルラン (折鶴蘭)だと思っていました。

今年は、オリヅルランの花が大きく、数も多いです。

タマスダレとヤブランの一角が例年とは違う様子で、嬉しいです。

この一角は、家の排水設備のため、コンクリートとマンホールが庭の表面をかなりの大きさで占めています。

それを補うために周囲に植物を植えたり、マンホールに鉢を置いたりしています。

ですがなかなか地植えの植物がうまく育ちません。

その中で、今年のタマスダレとヤブランは頑張ってくれています。

Lilyturf and White Windflower

One of the White Windflowers planted in the ground is near Lilyturf.

This Lilyturf had more flowers than the White Windflower, but it didn't bloom noticeably, and I thought it was Spider Plant.

This year, the flowers of Spider Plant are large and many.

I'm glad that the corner of Lilyturf and Spider Plant looks different from the average year.

In this corner, concrete and manholes occupy a considerable amount of the garden surface due to the drainage of the house.

To make up for that, we plant plants around there and put pots on manholes.

However, the plants planted in the ground do not grow well.

Among them, this year's Lilyturf and Spider Plant are doing their best.

私には、野原のように見えて嬉しい。
I'm glad it looks like a field for me.

4) Rの試み / R Attempt

スペアミント
庭の水場近くにミニロック・ガーデンを作っています。
地面にはガス管が通っていてそれが表面に出ていました。
私がガス管を土で覆い、ミニロック・ガーデンもどきを
作りました。
それをRがより'らしく'見えるように現在試み中です。
最近、ここにスペアミントを地植えしました。

Spearmint

We are creating a mini rock garden near a garden tap.

There was a gas pipe running through the ground 

and it was exposed on the surface.

I had covered the gas pipe with soil 

and made a mini rock garden-like.

R is currently trying to make the rock garden look more 

'like rock garden '.

Recently, he planted spearmint here.

5) エキゾチック・リリー / Exotic Lily

エキゾチック・リリー
'エキゾチック・リリー' は、私が名付けたニックネームで
本当は、'生姜の花'で、和名はシュクシャ
またはハナシュクシャです。
食用の生姜とは違います。
とても良い香りがしますが、
金木犀 (キンモクセイ) や沈丁花 (ジンチョウゲ) のようには
香りは立ちません。

Exotic Lily

'Exotic Lily' is the nickname I gave it.

Actually, it is 'Hedychium' and is also called ''Ginger Lily'.

It's not edible ginger.

It smells very good, but it does not have a scent 

like Fragrant Olive or Daphne Odora.

ブルーベリー
毎日、少しづつ摘み取っています。
実の撮影をしていなかったことに気がつき、本日しました。

We pick Blueberries little by little every day.
I realized that I hadn't actually taken a picture, so I did today.

冷凍保存しています。
ある程度溜まったらジャムを作る予定です。

They are stored frozen.
I plan to make jam when they accumulate to some extent.

ミニトマト
毎日というわけには行きませんが、ミニトマトも
少しづつ摘み取っています。

Mini Tomato
It is not every day, though we also pick mini tomatoes.

こちらは摘み取ってすぐに食べています。
They are picked and eaten immediately.

7) 3度目！ / The Third Time!

ミニバラ
ミニバラが三度目の開花シーズン？を迎えています。
初めてのことです。
通常二度で、一度の時もありました。

Mini Rose

 The third Mini Rose flowering season(?) came.

This is the first time.

Usually twice a year.

One year only once.

コロナ禍で在宅期間が長いので、庭へも目が行き届いているのかもしれません。

Rが英国へ戻ることができず、彼が竹や雑草を取り払い、風通しの

良い環境を作っています。

We may have been paying close attention to the garden because we have been at home for a long time due to the corona crisis.

1) ケーク・サレ /  Cake Salé

以前は頻繁にケーク・サレを作っていました。

ケーク・サレは、フランス生まれ、直訳すると '塩ケーキ' です。

内容は、おかずケーキ(惣菜ケーキ)です。

パウンドケーキの料理本を買った時に、その本にケーク・サレも載っていて、その存在を知りました。

コロナ禍になり、外出を控えるようになって、食品、食材を家に溜め込むことが多くなりました。

いつもそれらの消費に追われ、ケーク・サレを作る機会を持てませんでした。

母が私のケーク・サレが好きなので、何度も催促されていたのですが、彼女に送ることもできませんでした。

本日、なんと、今年初めてのケーク・サレを作りました。

半分を母に送り、ほっとしました。

2種類のケーク・サレ
私はケーク・サレは、日本におけるチャーハンのように
感じています。
残り物や冷蔵庫にある材料を一緒にして料理するからです。
にもかかわらず、なかなかケーク・サレを作ることが
できなかったのは、主菜用の食材がいつもあったからでしょう。
トマトソースと野菜スープの消費のために今回は作りました。

Two Kinds of Cake Salé

I feel that Cake Salé is like fried rice : Chahan in Japan.

This is because leftovers and ingredients

  the refrigerator are cooked together.

Nevertheless, the reason why I couldn't make Cake Salé was

 probably because there were always ingredients for main dishes.

This time I tidied up tomato sauce and vegetable soup.

Cake Salé

I used to make Cake Salé frequently.

Cake Salé was born in France and literally translates to 'salt cake'.

Cake Salé is savoury cake.

When I bought a cookbook for pound cake, I found out that there is a Cake Salé recipe in the book.

Due to the corona crisis, I started to refrain from going out, and I often store food and ingredients at home.

I was always busy consuming them and didn't have the opportunity to make Cake Salé.

My mother likes my Cake Salé and many times she requested me, although I didn't make it and couldn't send it to her.

Today, Oh my! I made the first Cake Salé this year.

I was relieved to send half to my mother.

2) 違う紅茶 / Different Tea

ケーク・サレと紅茶を一緒にいただきました。

この時の紅茶は、私達は違う紅茶を飲みました。

コロナ禍のためにRが昨年より英国へ行く機会を持てず、彼の最も好きな英国のアールグレイ (セインズベリーズ / Sainsbury's) が終わってしまいました。

その紅茶は、一般的には日本では売られていません。

現在その代替えになっているのは、ジャナッツのアールグレイです。

彼はそれをミルクティにして飲みました。

ジャナッツのアールグレイはフランス製で、日本でも販売されています。

私もこの紅茶は飲みますが彼ほど気に入っているわけではありません。

まあ、彼もお気に入りの英国のアールグレイが飲めれば、ジャナッツのアールグレイは買わないのでしょう。

紅茶とともに！ / With Tea!

Different Tea

We had cups of tea with the Cake Salé.

As for the tea at this time, we drank different teas.

R hasn't had a chance to go to Britain since last year because of Corona crisis, and his favourite British Earl Grey (Sainsbury's) has finished.

The tea is generally not sold in Japan.

The current alternative is Janat's Earl Grey.

He had milk tea.

Janat's Earl Grey is made in France and is also sold in Japan.

I also drink this tea, but I don't like it as much as he does.

Well, if he could drink his favourite British Earl Grey, he wouldn't buy Janat's Earl Grey.

現在は紙の箱入りを購入しています。
かなり前に購入したルーズティが缶入りでした。
紅茶はもちろんずいぶん前に飲み終わっていましたが
缶は気に入って保存しています。

The loose tea I bought a long time ago was in a tin can.

I like the can and have kept it.

3) 'パリの朝食' / 'Breakfast in Paris'

私が飲んだ紅茶は、スタッシュ・ティ ( Stash Tea Company / スタッシュ・ティー・カンパニー) の 'パリの朝食' です。

友人Mから、誕生日プレゼントの1つとしてもらいました。

'パリの朝食'というネーミングとエッフェル塔が組み込まれたパッケージで、フランスの紅茶の会社かと思いました。

実は、アメリカの会社でした。

初めて知った会社であり、初めて飲む紅茶でした。

私は、ラベンダーの香りがするアールグレイ(ベルモット)という印象を持っています。

主にストレートで飲み、時々ミルクティにもします。

ラベンダーの香りがするアールグレイの紅茶は珍しく感じますし、何となく 'パリの朝食' というネーミングの理由もわかるように思います。

"「STASH」の名前は、欧米の昔話に由来します。

遙か昔、お茶が船によって大切に運ばれる貴重な品物だった頃、その輸送を担う船のキャプテンには各地から集められた最高級のお茶が、荷主から特別にプレゼントされていました。

キャプテンへ特別にプレゼントされていたお茶の数々は「STASH」と呼ばれ、キャプテンの愛用のお茶として大切に保管されていました。

現在でも、STASHという言葉は、貴重で特別なものを表す際に使われています。"

偶然、テーブルに並んだケーク・サレ、紅茶2種がフランスに関係していることが面白いな〜と感じました。

The tea I drank was 'Breakfast in Paris' by Stash Tea Company.

I got it as one of my birthday presents from my friend M.

I thought this was a French tea company, because the name, 'Breakfast in Paris' and the package included the Eiffel Tower.

Actually, it is an American company : ★.

This was the first I knew of this company and first time I drank their tea.

I have the impression of Earl Grey (vermouth) with a lavender scent.

I drink it mainly straight and sometimes as milk tea.

Earl Grey tea with a lavender scent feels unusual, and I think I can somehow understand the reason for the name ''Breakfast in Paris'.
