大原港 (正式名、仲間港)から、各観光ポイント、そしてホテルへと観光バスで移動しました。
バスの運転手さんは、ガイドも兼ねていて、お話が上手な方でした。
個人的にも、'イリオモテヤマネコに出会うナイトツアー' をしていらっしゃいました。
この日の晩に、私たちはヤエヤマホタル : ヤエヤマヒメボタル (★) 鑑賞のナイトツアーに行きましたが、そのときのガイドさんが、私たちのバスの運転手さんの'イリオモテヤマネコに出会うツアー'が最も確率が高いと言っていました。
イリオモテヤマネコは、カンムリワシと同じく、国の特別天然記念物です。

We used a coach from Ōhara Port (Official name is Nakama Port) to each tourist point and our hotel.
The coach driver was a guide as well and he was a good talker.
Personally, he has a night tour : 'Find Iriomote Cat.'
In the evening of this day, we went for our night tour 'Looking at Yaeyama Firefly (Yaeyama-hime Firefly)' and our guide said that our coach driver's tours have the most success in seeing the Cat amongst the Iriomote Cat tours.
Iriomote Cat is a Special Natural Monument in Japan as is the Crested Serpent Eagle.

イリオモテヤマネコを始め、ほかの希少鳥獣のために、
島の森林地域のうち約10,218ha (東京ドーム約2,185個) が
国指定西表鳥獣保護区に指定され、
National Wildlife Protection Areas
'National Wildlife Protection Areas' in Iriomote Island is 10,218ha
for Iriomote Cat and other rare wildlife.
9,999ha, among of the Areas are 'Special Protection Areas'.

にもかかわらず、イリオモテヤマネコの交通事故はあとを立たないようです(★)。
イリオモテヤマネコは、夜行性(薄明薄暮性)で、子育て中はより一層活動が活発になります。
島では交通渋滞が殆どないので、ドライバーがスピードを出しやすい環境にあり、常時、ネコが飛び出してくることを念頭においていなければ事故は起きるべくして起きるように感じました。
島の住人の皆さんは、大変だな〜と感じますが、西表島で住むのなら、もう、 ネコへの注意は使命なのかもしれません。

Iriomote Cat
I think that Iriomote Cat is the most famous aspect in Iriomote Island which only lives on this Island.
And also I felt people care very much about the Iriomote Cats in Iriomote Island.
Nonetheless, Iriomote Cats have been killed or injured by traffic accidents which seem to be never ending ; 83 cases from 1978 to May 2018 (★ in only Japanese).
Iriomote Cat is a 'Crepuscular Animal' which are primarily active during twilight (that is, the periods of dawn and dusk), and especially they become more active when raising their young.
Because there are few traffic jams on the Island, the drivers seem to be in an environment where it is easy to speed up, I felt as if accident could happen unless they keep in mind that a cat could pop out at any time.
The residents of the Island seem to be inconvenienced, but if people live on Iriomote Island, people may have a mission to help the Cat.
And also I felt people care very much about the Iriomote Cats in Iriomote Island.

  Center : アメリカ英語で、Centre : 英国英語です。 基本、私は英国英語を使用しています。 "Center" is American English, "Centre" is English English. Basically, I am using English English.     |

| イエネコを買うには許可が必要で、 イエネコには所在確認できるチップが埋め込まれます。 イエネコの菌がイリオモテヤマネコに害を与えるからです。 野生のイリオモテヤマネコの方が強いように思いますが 人間社会に住むイエネコの方が菌には強いのが意外です。 In order to have a domestic cat, permission is necessary, and the cat can be located using a chip embedded in the cat. It is because germs from domestic cats are harmful to Iriomote Cat. I think that the wild Iriomote Cat is more strong, however, it is surprising that the domestic cats living in human society are stronger against germs. |
