Shigisan
Chogosonshi-ji Temple
Mount
Shigi (信貴山 :
Shigisan) is 437m, is located at the southern
end of the Ikoma Mountains
lying in the northwest of Nara
Prefecture, and it is on the border between Kawachi
Province and Yamashiro
Province · Yamato
Province.

the head temple of Shigisan Shingon
Buddhism group.

Its principal
image is a Buddhist God Vaiśravaṇa , one
of the Four
Heavenly Kings.
"Shigisan-engi "
(National Treasure) is exhibited in the miniature museum, Reihjoukan,
(with charge), although we did not have time to see it.
"Shigisan-engi "
is regarded as one of the four Great Emakimono lined
with
"Genji Monogatari Emaki", "Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga", "Ban Dainagon Ekotoba".
"Genji Monogatari Emaki", "Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga", "Ban Dainagon Ekotoba".
(Emakimono often
simply called Emaki, is a horizontal, illustrated narrative form
created during the 11th to 16th Centuries in Japan.

I
am sorry that I could not see it, but if I were too greedy, nothing
will remain in my mind, it cannot be helped on tours.

聖徳太子 (574
- 622) の父、用明天皇 (?
- 587) が崩御し、崇仏派 (スウブツハ; 仏教推進派)の蘇我馬子 (ソガノウマコ/
? - 626) は、排仏派 (ハイブツハ: 仏教排除派) の
物部守屋 ( モノノベノ
モリヤ/
? - 587) を討とうと大軍を起こします。
蘇我馬子 の甥である聖徳太子もこの大軍に参加しました。
下記、朝護孫寺のサイトより
"今から1400余年前、聖徳太子は、物部守屋を討伐せんと河内稲村城へ向かう途中、この山に至りました。
太子が戦勝の祈願をするや、天空遥かに毘沙門天王が出現され、必勝の秘法を授かりました。
その日は奇しくも寅年、寅日、寅の刻でありました。
太子はその御加護で勝利し、自ら天王の御尊像を刻み伽藍を創建、信ずべし貴ぶべき山『信貴山』と名付けました。
以来、信貴山の毘沙門天王は寅に縁のある神として信仰されています。"
境内のあちらこちらで、虎に関するものが見られます。
After the death of Emperor Yōmei (? - 587) who was the father of
Prince Shōtoku (574 – 622), and Soga no Umako (? - 626) was a member of Buddhism promotion group made a large army for attacking
Mononobe
no Moriya (? - 587) who was a member of anti Buddhism group.
Prince
Shotoku, the nephew of Sogano Umako also participated in the army.

(translation
by me),
"Prince Shōtoku reached
this mountain on the way to attack Inamura Castle in Kawachi
Province where Mononobe
no Moriya was.
When Prince Shōtoku prayed
for victory, the Buddhist God, Vaiśravaṇa
appeared far away in the sky, and the God gave the secret of victory.
It
was a Tiger
Year, a Tiger Day, and a Tiger Time.
Prince Shōtoku won
by the God's protection, the Prince himself carved a wooden Figure of
the God, founded the building and said we must believe and respect
the God and he named "Shigisan : Mount Shingi" which means
believe and respect at the Mount.
Since
then, the God, Vaiśravaṇa of Mount
Shingi is religiously believed in as
a god with a relationship with the Tiger."

in the precincts we can see something relating to the tiger.

We walk in the dark corridor under the Main Hall.
It seems like a lot of temples have similar places.
It was the first time I have experienced this.

中高年女性グループが私達の後に続き、彼女らは大きな声をあげながら歩いていたので、静寂さはなく、ちょっとがっかりでした。
彼女らがあえて明るく、大きな声で話していたのは、暗闇にたいする恐怖からであるとその場で思っていました。
この戒壇めぐりの、身を清める趣旨とは違うでしょうけれど、人の心の弱さや可愛さを感じた場所でした。
A group of middle and old age women followed us, they were walking with loud voices, so there was no silence and I was a bit disappointed.
I
thought in the corridor that they were deliberately talking loudly and brightly out of fear of
darkness.
It was a place where I felt the weakness and loveliness of people, which is different from the purpose of the Kaidan Tour, purifying us.

稲荷神社も...神仏習合 (シンブツシュウゴウ)ですね。
とても日本らしいことです。 There is an Inari Shrine, too... It is Shinbutsu-shūgō,isn't it? This really is Japan. According to Wiki about "Shinbutsu-shūgō", "Shinbutsu-shūgō is ~~~ the syncretism of Buddhism and kami worship
that was Japan's only organized religion."
