1) また、カレル橋です！ / The Charles Bridge, Again!

A. 橋の前 / In Front of the Bridge

"聖サルバトール教会" (クレメンティヌム)
カレル橋のすぐ近くで、コンサートも開かれます(★)。

"サルヴァドール (Salvador) 自体はポルトガル語で
救世主 (=キリスト) を意味する"(Wiki)
なので、キリスト教会という意味になります。

プラハにはもうひとつのサルバトール教会もあるそうです。
聖ニコラス (ミクラーシュ) 教会も二つあるし、戸惑いやすいです〜。

以前は聖クレメント (? - 101頃) に捧げられていたので、
その名前だけは残り、クレメンティヌムと呼ばれる複合建築群の
総称になっています。
この教会はクレメンティヌムの一部で、他の部分は国立図書館になっています。
この図書館が素敵そうなので(★)、次回はぜひ訪ねてみたいです。

正式名はSt. Salvator Church Klementinum 

St. Salvator Church / "Kostel Nejsvětějšího Salvátora" 
The church is close to the Charles Bridge, sometimes they have concerts (★).
Salvator means Jesus Christ, so this church means Holy Jesus Christ Church.

There is another St. Salvator Church in Prague.
There are two St. Nicholas Churches in Prague.
This is easily confusing!

Formerly the church was to deify St. Clement / Klement I (? - c.101)

so that the name : Klement I  has been kept, 
and nowadays Klementinum is a complex of buildings.
This Church is part of  Klementinum, another part is National Library.
I heard the library is lovely, so I would visit next time.

B. 橋の横 / Beside the Bridge

モルダウ川岸
'ペダルボート'も面白いと聞きましたが、
これを漕ぐ体力はないですね。

 Vltava Bank
Pedalos (paddle boat) for enjoying in the river.
I heard the boat is quite enjoyable, although I do not have energy for it.

C. 橋の上 / On the Bridge 

マネーフ橋をカレル橋から見る  
カレル橋の北にあり、なかなか美しい橋です。

 From the Charles Bridge to the Mánesův Bridge / Mánesův most
This bridge is to the North of the Charles Bridge and quite beautiful.

エレガントな装飾に囲まれて
レリーフの"ネポムクの聖ヨハネ / 聖ヤン・ネポムツキー" (1345頃 -1393)は、
気持ちよさそうにモルダウ川に浮かんでいるように見えます。

ですが、1383年に、彼はここからモルダウ川に投げ込まれ、

のちに遺体が発見された時には水面に5つの星の王冠が現れ、

光り輝いたという伝説があります。NHK世界遺産シリーズのサイト→★：

レリーフの彼が気持ちよさそうに見えるのは私だけかも....。

レリーフも私の写真も、バックは、マネーフ橋 / Mánesův mostです。
と、思ったのですけれど、レリーフの橋はカレル橋かもしれません。

レリーフの"ネポムクの聖ヨハネ"さんがぴかぴかしているのは、

十字と星を左手でさわると願いが叶うと言われているからです。(★)

川に落とされた死後もたくさんの人々に願いをかけられて彼は忙しい毎日。

ですが、人々に忘れ去られるのはつらいから、

こうして願いをかけられるのは彼にとっても嬉しいことかもしれません。

そういえば、私は彼の有名な彫像の方の写真は撮っていないのでした。

Surrounded by Elegant Decorations 

John of Nepomuk / John Nepomucene / Jan Nepomucký (c1345 - 1393) on the relief 

looks comfortable floating on Vltava .

However, there is a legend that he was thrown over into the river from this point and 
when people found his body, a crown of five stars appeared and then glittering.

So only I might feel he looks comfortable on the relief....

The Mánesův Bridge is the background to the relief and my photograph....
I thought like this, but now I think the relief's bridge might be the Charles Bridge.

Mr. Nepomucene on the relief is shiny, because you are supposed to touch the cross 

and the stars with your left hand and make a wish (★).

He died after being thrown into the river, 
people make a wish to him, so he is busy everyday.

However, if people forget him, he might be sad,

so people making a wish like that might please him.

For that matter, I did not photograph his famous statue.

わ〜、珍しい！グラス・ハープのパフォーマンス！

この音はなんとなく、教会に合う気がします。

ということで(？)、後ろの彫像は、

'パドヴァの聖アントニウス (1195 - 1231)''(1707作)。

Wow! It was unusual Glass harp's performance！

Somehow I feel the sounds suit churches.

Therefore (?), the statue behind him is 

 "Saint Anthony of Padua" (1195 - 1231), made in 1707

カレル橋の上ではいろいろなパフォーマンスが見られます。
We can see many performances on the Charles Bridge.

尖塔がたくさん、プラハです〜！

右の彫像は聖アウグスティヌス / 聖オーガスティン (? - 604)。
彫像は1708年に制作されています。

彼は英国にキリスト教を齎(モタラ)しました(596, 下記)。

その後、カンタベリ大聖堂を作り、初代大司教になりました(597, 下記)。
プラハでもこうして彫像にされているのですね〜。

Many Spires! Prague~!

The statue on the right is "Augustine of Canterbury" (? -604).
The statue was made in 1708.

He brought Christianity to Britain (596, below)

Later he  built the first Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, 
Britain and he became the first Archbishop (599, below).

2) 旧市街地 / The Old Town

公園にある彫像まで尖塔ぽい...もしくはこれも尖塔のひとつでしょうか？
Even a statue in a park is like a spire ...or this is one of the spires?

迷路のよう...防衛上、わざとそのように作ったとどこかで読みました。

There are like mazes....I have read somewhere that
they deliberately made them like this for defence.

ここにもグラフィティ (落書き) が！
以前、シャッターにあったのをトラムから見ました。
チェコが生きてる感じがします。
まあ、こういう行為が良いか悪いかの判断は、私には難しいです。

Here is Graffiti, too!
Before this, I saw graffiti on shutters, from tram.
I feel Czech is alive! 
Well it is difficult these attitudes' judgement good or bad for me.

不思議な組み合わせ、なんとなく心惹かれます。
The combination is strange, somehow I am taken. 

艦長のキャンディと言っても海賊船の艦長ですね。
Even though it says Captain Candy, the captain is for a pirate ship.

甘いものはあまり食べないけれど、
スィートの色や形はおもしろいな〜と思います。

I do not eat sweets so much, 
although I think their colours and shapes are interesting.

樽のデイスプレイもお店 (海賊船) にあわせてます。
The display of barrels is definitely for this shop like a pirate ship.

これは色使いや配置がいいなっと思って撮影。
大きな表示は住所を表していると推測できますが、
小さいものは、さて、なんのことやら.....

This is here because I thought the colours and layout were good, 
so I photographed.
I can guess the biggest plate shows the address 
but I have no idea for the smaller plates. 

平和な感じがしました。
I felt there is peaceful.

屋根部分がおもしろいな〜と....
I feel their part of the roofs are interesting...

3) 旧市街広場周辺 / Near The Old Town Square

カフカの生家
あれっ、カフカの彫像が！と思って撮影したら、カフカの生家でした。
フランツ・カフカ (1883  - 1924) の博物館とカフェになっていると聞きました。
この撮影をしたときは、お目当てのベーカリーカフェに向かっていたので

The House where Franz Kafka was Born
I thought 'Look! Kafka's statue! ' and then I just photographed.
Later I found out that he was born in the house.
I heard nowadays here are the Museum of Franz Kafka (1883  - 1924) and a cafe.
When I photographed this I was going to one of my target cafes, 
so I just passed here.

目的のベーカリーを探していたらヨゼホフ(ユダヤ人地区) : 
Josefov/ Josefov に入っていました。
建物だけでは気がつきませんでした。
お店のショーウィンドウを通して見た商品がなんとなく、
私にはエイキゾチックに思え、あとでユダヤ人地区であったと知ったときに
なるほど〜と思ったのです。

While I was looking for the bakery cafe, automatically I was in 'Josefov'.
I did not realize just by the buildings.
I looked at window displays of the shops, somehow I felt exotic there,
 later I realized here is 'Josefov' and I think indee~d.

綺麗な建物ばかりです。
They are all beautiful buildings.

時計台がある旧市庁舎 (東側)
両方とも世界遺産指定登録されています。

The Old Town Hall
with the Astronomical Clock (East Side)
Both are the World Heritage Listed Sites.

1) '旧市街地庁舎' / 'Old Town Hall'

旧市街地広場にある旧市街地庁舎は、1338年に市議会が貴族の家を市のオフィスとして買いました。

その後改築増築をかさね、その市庁舎は、いくつかの家の集合体となり、
もとの部分はほとんどありません。

1364年に塔ができ、中世の時代にはこの塔は市の中で最も高かったのです。

この塔に、1410年、天文時計 ('プラハのオルロイ') の最古部分が設置されました。



'Old Town Hall'

The Old Town Hall is in the Old Town Square.

In 1338, the councilors bought a patrician house as the office for the town.

Later it was repaired, reconstructed, they bought other houses and became aggregated and most of the original parts have gone.

In 1364, the tower was made which was the highest in the city. 

The tower installed the first  'Astronomical Clock' (Prague orloj / Pražský orloj) in 1410.

赤い壁の家をはさんだ両隣、塔も含めて、旧市街地庁舎です。

現在、1338年の面影 が外側で残っているのは、西側部分の玄関部分 (下の写真) です。
後で知りましたが、赤い建物はインフォメーションセンターなのだそうです。

右端にちょこっと見えるのはティーン教会の尖塔。

小さくても気になる存在感....。

The 'Old Town Hall' includes all these buildings and the tower.

Today, one of the original external remnants is the portal 

in the western part of the building (below).
Later I found the red building is information centre.

You can see a little spires of the Church of Our Lady before Tyn.

They are small in this, although I'm concerned about the existence...

ゴシック様式の石の正門
他の部分にくらべ、主張が強い！
尖塔アーチ (先が尖ったアーチ) は、ゴシック建築の特徴の一つ。

The Stone Portal in Gothic Style 
When comparing this with others, its assertion is stronger.
The pointed arch is one of the distinctive features of Gothic architecture.


この彫刻装飾は型で作ったようですが、お見事です！

These decorations seem to be made by moulding,
anyway it is Bravo!

雨樋に彫像を配置しています。

ガーゴイルに似た発想ですよね。

There are downpipes and gutters,

the statues hide them.

This idea is similar to gargoyles, isn't it?

2) 天文時計 / Astronomical Clock


A. 歴史 / History

天文時計を見たのは、初めてでした。

その有様は、錬金術師の世界を思いおこします。

錬金術師が好きだったと言われる、ルドルフ2世  (1552 - 1612 / ボヘミア王在位1575 - 1612)は、この時計を見たでしょうか？

私は、政治力に欠けていたというこの人を憎めない....たとえ彼がカソリック側で
あったとしても...。

時計の最古部分 (1410) は、天文時計として世界で３番目に古く、600年以上の後の
今も作動!

でもなんども修理はされています。

その修理についてもいろいろ逸話が残されていて、人々がこの時計に私と同じように不思議さを感じて、そういう話をつけたがるのだな〜と思います。

時計職人のカダン出身のミクラーシュ/ Mikuláš of Kadaň (? - ?) と
数学と天文のカレル大学教授の 
ヤン・シンデル / Jan Šindel (1370 -1455 と1457の間)

によって作られました。

2010年、"祝600年記念" の際、時計台を画面にして、ライトショーが行われました。

'プラハの天文時計台'または'プラハのオルロイ'

時計は主に3つの部分で成り立っています。

1) 使徒の行進 : 人形仕掛け

2)プラネタリウム : 天動説が基盤

3) カレンダー : 12ヶ月

Prague Astronomical Clock, or Prague orloj / Pražský orloj 
The clock mainly consists of three parts, below

1)The Walk of the Apostles : Animated Figures 

2) Planetarium : Base on Geocentric Model

3) A calendar : 12th Months 

History

It was first time I saw an astronomical clock.

The spectacle reminds me of alchemist worlds.

Did Rudolf II (1552 – 1612 / King of Bohemia region 1575– 1612) who they say liked alchemists, look at this clock?

I cannot hate him... even though they say he lacked political ability and he was on the Catholic side.

The original clock was made in 1410.

The oldest part is the third-oldest astronomical in the world and it is still working after over 600 years!

However, it has been repaired many times.

There are a few anecdotes about the repairs, because I think people, including me, feel the clock is mysterious and they would add some stories.

It was made by clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň (? -?) and 
by Jan Šindel (1370 - between 1455 and 1457), a professor of mathematics and astronomy at Charles University. 

When the 600th anniversary was celebrated with a light show on the face of the clock tower, they made a video.

B."使徒の行進"  / "The Walk of the Apostles"

1) 二つの小窓 : 使徒の行進 : 人形仕掛け(からくり人形？）
9:00 ~ 21:00の間、１時間ごとに現れて動きます。
 (動画 : ★:この動画は、ちょっとうるさいです)

下は、2)の部分の人形たちですが、"使徒の行進"と連動しています。

左: 骸骨くん; 死神 / 右: ぷー兄ちゃん ; 快楽

一時間ごとの"使徒の行進"が始まるのをベルで伝える骸骨くん、
その後他の人形もすぐに動き出します。
私は残念ながら見ていません..

On the hour, the skeleton rings the bell and immediately 
all other figures are moving.

C. プラネタリウム / Planetarium

2) の部分、天動説に基づいた太陽や月などの位置を示す天文文字盤。

時計の中心は、地球です。

プラネタリウムの原型と言われています。

私はこの部分全てを明確には理解しておりません。すみません...。

Planetarium

Part 2) , the astronomy dial represents the locations of  the Sun and the Moon.

The centre is the Earth.

They say this is a primitive planetarium.

I do not understand this part completely....sorry.

2) のプラネタリウム部分

文字盤上部が地平線より上、下部が地平線より下。

The upper half of the dial is above the horizon and 
the lower indicates below the horizon.

D. カレンダー / Calendar

3)の部分 : カレンダー

大きな円盤に、それぞれの月を表す絵が描かれ、月カレンダーになっています。

文字盤が１年かけて一周します。

ここで感動するのが、少なくとも私が感動したのは

12ヶ月を示す絵が農村の四季なのです。

王室や貴族が作った時計でなく、

市議会 (まあ、貴族出身かお金持ちでしょうけれど) 

が作った時計というのが感じられます。

中心にはプラハの紋章があります。

このプレートは1880年にコピーされたものと取り替えられています。

原盤は市立プラハ博物館に保管されています。

コピーとはいえ、古いですよね〜?

Part 3) : Calendar 

The calendar dial has medallions representing the months.

The dial moves around once in a year.

Here, it is impressive...at least I was impressed that 

12 pictures represent 12 months of agrarian views. 

I feel the clock was not made by Royalty or nobles, it was made the councilors

 (well presumably they came form noble or wealthy families.)

The centre is Prague's Coat of Arms.

This plate was replaced by a copy in 1880 and 

the original is stored in the Prague Museum (★).

Even though this is the copy, it is old enough, isn't it?

4) 黄金の羅針盤 / The Golden Compass 

A. ファンタジー映画 / Fantasy Film

天文時計を見たのは初めてでしたが、見た後で、どこかで、'プラハ天文時計'と似たようなものを見たような〜っと思いました。

そうです、映画、"ライラの冒険 黄金の羅針盤" [2007, 監督クリス・ワイツ (1969 - ) 
 原題: The Golden Compass 
 原作 : 『黄金の羅針盤』(1995) / フィリップ・プルマン 作 (1946 - ) ] !

映画で用いられている、ライラが持っている"黄金の羅針盤" (below) が似ているのです。

Fantasy Film

Although this was the first time I saw an astronomical clock, after looking at it, I thought I had seen something similar to the 'Prague orloj' before.

Oh! Yes! There is a film, "The Golden Compass" 
[2007, director: Chris Weitz (1969 - ) 

based on 『Northern Lights』(1995), 
the first novel in Philip Pullman's trilogy "His Dark Materials".

I mean, in the film, Lyra has a 'Golden Compass' (below) which is similar to the clock.

この発想を得たのではないかしら？

I wonder if Philip Pullman (1946 - ) had the idea from 
an astronomical clock or an astrolabe?

They are my favourite books.

ローマン氏の絵は表紙と裏表紙だけです。中面は活字のみ。

B.学ぶこと / Learning 

映画は三部作の予定でしたのに、興行収入もまあまあ良かったようでしたのに、
第一部のみで終わってしまいました。

とっても残念です。

アメリカのカソリック教会の反対運動があったからだそうです。

カソリックはまたしても他を押さえつけようとしています。

懲りない宗教ですね。まったく！

でも、宗教戦争などなどで懲りているヨーロッパのカソリック教会は、映画のひとつくらいには(ファンタジー作品ですし）目くじらをたてず、反対運動をしていないところを見ると、アメリカは、歴史が短かすぎるといえるかもしれません。

学びが足りないぞ〜！

Learning 

The first film was finished, they had planned two more films to complete the trilogy and although the box-office revenue did not seem to be so bad, they decided not to proceed.

That't too~~~ bad!

I heard because USA's Catholic Churches campaigned against the film.

Again, or still, Catholics strangled others.

The religion never learn, indeed!

However, European Catholic Churches did not get angry about the film (moreover it is just a fantasy!) , perhaps because they are tiresome by many religious wars and they did not campaign against the film, so that I could say USA's history is still short.

Lack of learning!
