それ以後、お目にかかっていなかったのに、ここでそのメニューを見つけました！

日本人にとっては、この'シツコソウナ見てくれ'....
これぞ、現地ならでの、旅行ならではの味...と私には思えます。
日本人は起用ですから、作ろうと思えば作れるのでしょうけれど、
まあ、家では食べないでしょうか？
それでも、私は、英国では、美味しく食べます！

The first time I had this dish was in B&B : "House of Agnes".

After then I had not seen this, however, I found it in this cafe's menu,
of course I had it.

For Japanese, its appears so heavy...
and for me it is a dish I enjoy when travelling.
Japanese are skillful, so if we wanted to make it, we could,
although I would not eat at home, would I?
However, I really enjoy this in Britain.

Sのベジタリアンの朝食
ベジタリアン (菜食主義者) にはいろいろなタイプがいて、
すごくストイックな人 (ヴィーガン/ Veganism /純菜食主義) は
卵もチーズ、蜂蜜もだめですが、
緩い人は肉は食べないけれど、魚は食べるという人もいます。
Sの場合は、肉魚類は食べないけれど、卵や乳製品はOKです
(ラクト・オボ・ベジタリアン/ Ovo-lacto vegetarianism)。

英国では、ベジタリアンが日本よりずっと多く居るように感じます。
美味しいものがいっぱいの日本でベジタリアンになるのと、英国でなるのとでは、英国でなるほうが容易いと思うのは、私の色眼鏡ですか？？？

そしてまた、私はベジタリアンはタバコを吸わない印象がありましたが、
吸う人がかなり居て、びっくりしました。
考えてみれば、タバコは植物ですものね。

ちなみにSは吸いませんし、彼女がベジタリアンなのは、宗教が理由です。

S's Vegetarian Breakfast
Vegetarians come in many types in Britain,
very stoic people do not even eat egg, honey or dairy who are Vegans,
lax vegetarians may eat fish.
For S, she does not eat meat or fish, although eggs and dairy are OK. 
(Ovo-lacto vegetarianism)

I feel the number of vegetarians in Britain is bigger than in Japan.
I think a huge range of foods are delicious in Japan, it is much more difficult when people become vegetarians in Japan than in Britain.
Is my thought because I have a biased view about food???

And also I had an image that vegetarians would not smoke,
however, a few vegetarians are smokers and I was surprised.
If I consider the smoke, it is made from plants, isn't it?

By the way, S does not smoke and the reason she is vegetarian 
comes from her religion.

2013年9月5日夕食は、"Oscars of Cardiff" でとりました。

けれども、2013年の末に、このレトランは閉店しました。

We had our dinner in "Oscars of Cardiff" in Cowbridge, 5th of September, 2013.

By the way, the restaurant closed at the end of year, 2013.

C. 全滅〜！ / Disastrous ~!

基本的に、屋内と食べ物は、フラッシュを用いないので、結構ぼけぼけ写真が多いのですけど、今回の食べ物の撮影は、全滅〜〜！(涙！)

ですが、味は、パブの美味しい感じで、良かったです。

Basically I take  photographs inside and of food without flash, so often my photographs are out of focus.

The photographs of food were disastrous this time. (Tears!)

However, the taste was good which was similar to a good pub meal.

❸-2)ランダフ大聖堂; カーディフ、2013年9月4日/ Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff, 4th of September in 2013

1) ティールーム/ Tea Rooms

 "Jaspers Tea Rooms" ：★
ランダルフ大聖堂の近くにあるティールームで、なかなか素敵な店構えです。

This is close to Llandaff Cathedral.
The front looks quite lovely. 

私達のランチは、近くの学校の生徒の下校時間のようでした。
Our lunchtime seemed to be when the students finished their school 
which is nearby. 

メニューも素敵
Menu is lovely, too.

お店はギャラリーとしても使用されているようでした。
Here looked like a gallery, too.

2) ランチ/ Lunch

食事内容は、英国らしい素朴な感じがしました。

I felt the dishes were homespun, as normal British meals.

彼女が何をオーダーしたか覚えていませんが、
彼女はベジタリアンなので、肉類、魚類は入っていないものでしょう。

I do not remember what she ordered for her lunch,
she is a vegetarian, so the dish did not have any sort of meat or fish.

味も、英国の通常のカフェと同様。
こんなものかな〜という感じ？

Was it beans soup?
The taste was usual cafe style in Britain.
I felt average.

ついていたサラダには彼の嫌いなタマネギがあったので、
サラダは私がもらい、私のランチについていたパンを彼にあげました。

R's Lunch: Jacket Potato (Baked Potato)
The salad included onion slice which he hates,
so he gave me the salad and I gave him my bread.

3) オールド•ビショップス•パレス / Old Bishop's Palace

"オールド•ビショップ•パレス"または"ビショップ パレス ランダルフ"は、
司教の住まいの遺跡です。

ランダルフ大聖堂のすぐそばにあります。

ウィリアム ダ ブアオーズ / William de Braose (死去1287) のために建てられたと言われ、彼はランダルフ大聖堂の レディチャペル/ Lady Chapel を作った人だと信じられています。

ウエールズで最大、英国全体で２番目の規模のケルフィー城に似ていると言われていますが、私はまだそこへは行ったことがありません。

因に、全英で一番は、ウィンザー城です。



Old Bishop's Palace

"Old Bishop's Palace" or "Bishop's Palace, Llandaff" is the ruined residence of the Bishops. 

It is close to Llandaff Cathedral.

They say it was built for William de Braose (died1287) and it is believed he had the Lady Chapel in Llandaff Cathedral built.

They say the Palace has similarities to Caerphilly Castle which is the largest in Wales and the second largest in Britain, I haven't been there. 

By the way, the largest castle in Britain is Windsor Castle.

この遺跡は、'門番小屋 / Gatehouse'。
This ruin is the 'Gatehouse'.

近道になっているのかもしれません。
彼女だけでなく、かなりの生徒がここを通り抜けていっていました。
 今の時代の彼女と古い門があっていると思うのは、
私だけでしょうか？
英国の学校の建物が、古い石造りの印象が私にはあり、
そう思うのかもしれません。

It might be a short cut.
A few students went in through here.
Do only I feel the modern student suits the old gate?
My impression of British school buildings is that they are old and made of stone,
so I might feel like this.

4) 白木蓮 / White Magnolia 

敷地内に白木蓮(ハクモクレン）があります。

通常は色付きのものを木蓮と呼ぶようです。

白い花に惹かれる私は、白木蓮(ハクモクレン）の方が好きです。

マグノリア（白木蓮)の花言葉は、『自然への愛』『持続性』

英語の花言葉と多少違うようですね。

"love of nature / 自然への愛" "nobility / 崇高" "perseverance / 忍耐" "dignity / 威厳"

花言葉は、国や文化によって違うのは当然かな？

マグノリア/ Magnolia の名前はフランス人の植物学者の

ピエ•マニョル/ Pierrre Magnol (1638 - 1715)から来ています。
(ピエは英語名のピエール）

日本名は蓮の花に似ているところから。

英語名も、日本名も花にあっていると感じます。

また、この花がここに合っている気がするのは、蓮が仏教に関連し、私には宗教色が感じられるので、蓮に似ている木蓮がこの地にあっているように思われるのでしょう。

この感覚は西洋人にはないものなのかもしれません。

けれども、白いマグノリアは花嫁のイメージも西洋にはあるらしいので、

どちらにしても白木蓮は清潔な感じを人々の中に作り出すのでしょう。

マグノリア/ モクレン （白木蓮)

White Magnolia 

There is a white magnolia in a garden of the ruin.

Normally Magnolia means having coloured flowers. 

White flowers tempted me, so I tend to prefer White Magnolia.

In the language of flowers Magnolia  means

"love of nature","nobility", "perseverance","dignity".

They are a little different from Japanese: "love of nature" and "continuation".

It might naturally be they are different by countries or cultures.

The name of Magnolia came from a botanist: Pierrre Magnol (1638 - 1715).

Japanese name: Mokuren / モクレン:木蓮 came from similarity to 

Hasu / 蓮 : Lotus  : ★.

I feel both names in Japanese and English suit the flower.

In addition, I feel the flower suit the place because Lotus has a religious image for me and Magnolia  is similar to Lotus .

Westerners might not have this sense.

However, White Magnolia seems to have an image of brides in Western Worlds, 

anyway White Magnolia could make pure feeling in people.

Sの弟さんがRの車の手配をしている間に、私達はSとともにちょっと観光に出かけました。

私はカーディフには複数回来ていますし、Rにいたっては、数えきれないほど訪れています。

が、この"ランダフ大聖堂 / Llandaff Cathedral"を訪ねるのは二人とも初めてでした。

この大聖堂は 'イングランド国教会 / Church of England' : ★ (公式Web: 英語)の系統の'聖公会/ Anglicanism'に属しています。

カーディフには、２つの大聖堂があり、ひとつがランダフ大聖堂、もうひとつが、

メトロポリタン大聖堂 / Metoropolitan Cathedral Church of St David 

(もしくは聖デビット大聖堂/ St David's Cathedral ) : ★ (公式Web; 英語）で、

そちらはカソリック教会の傘下です。

ランダフ大聖堂の地は英国の中で最も古いキリスト教会の場所で、6世紀に設立されています。

現在の建物の元は、ノルマン様式建築 (下記[]部分:Wikipediaより)で12世紀に建てられました。

[ノルマン様式建築はノルマン風建築、アングロ・ノルマン建築などとも呼ばれ、ロマネスク建築に属する建築様式に分類され、11世紀に起こったノルマン人のイングランド王国占領ころから発達した建築様式なのでそう呼ばれている。通常巨大で単純な石造りで、外部の装飾は少なく、重厚さを感じさせる。 ^[1] [2]

イングランドの多くの大聖堂、修道院、その他建築物は初めこの様式に則って建てられ、いくつかは今もそのまま残り、もともとのフランス北部でもこの様式の建物があり、ノルマン人が進出したイタリア南部でもこの様式が採用された例があり、また日本でも近代になってこれに習って建てられた教会堂もある。]

その後、戦争や風雪などで損壊を受け、それをまた修復して現在の形になっています。

私は建築に詳しくないので、わかりませんが、いろいろな様式が混じっている面白い大聖堂だということです。

その違いがよくわからないながらも、そこにはいろいろなアート作品があり、楽しめました。

Llandaff Cathedral

While S's brother arranged with R's car, we have a little sightseeing with S.

I came to Cardiff a few times and R visited many times, however, for us both this was our first visit to 'Llandaff Cathedral' : official web; ★.

The Cathedral is Anglican. 

There are two Cathedrals in Cardiff, this one and the other is the 'Metoropolitan Cathedral Church of St David's (St David's Cathedral)' which is Roman Catholic: official web: ★

'Llandaff Cathedral' stands on one of the oldest Christian sites in Britain which was established in the 6th century.

Originally built in the 12th century in Norman style, it has been damaged by wars and weather and later been repaired.

I do not know very much about architecture, although they say this is an interesting cathedral because it now has a mixture of many styles.

Even though I do not understand the differences, there are many art works, 

so I enjoyed the visit.

2) 外側 / Outside

ランダルフ第一次世界大戦記念碑(1914 -18)
記念碑といっても、この景色が記念碑扱いなのです。
というのも、13世紀の鐘堂(Bell Tower)のこの遺跡前には以前には建物があり、
一般の人々には見ることができませんでした。
建物を取り壊し、歴史的建物の景色を保存しています。
私の推測の補足をすると、英国は戦争によってたくさんの歴史的建物を
失いましたので、歴史的建物を保存する流れが
以前よりも高まったからだと思います。

なんとなく、私には階段を上ってメインの建物に着くイメージが

神社や寺、教会にありますが、ここは下って行きます。

Somehow I have an expectation about shrines, temples and churches that 

people step up to their main buildings,

however, here, we step down to the main building.

右の小さな屋根の部分の "チャプターハウス / Chapter House" は、
13世紀に作られました。
この "チャプターハウス" には、12世紀建設の大聖堂よりも古い
ケルティック十字 (拡大写真：★)があります。
チャプターハウスは、聖職者の会議室です。

ただし、ガーゴイルは雨樋の役目もしています。
私はガーゴイルが大好き！

They works as Onigawara in Japan or Shisa in Okinawa (Ryukyuan religion) ?
But Gargoyles works as gutters too.

I like the wood relief and the calligraphy, so I took the photographs.

Why St Teilo rides on a stag, because it came from one of his legends.

 to cover as much ground as possible in the time available:★'

4) 周囲 / Surroundings

帰りは、来た時とは違う階段を使いました。
When we left there, we used different steps.

上ると、そこは"カセドラルグリーン/ The Cathedral Green"と呼ばれる広場になっていました。

広場の周囲の家々は、ちょっと気位が高そうな感じがしました。

After reaching the top, there is an open space : "The Cathedral Green".

I felt the houses around the open space are the proudest.

ケルティックの柄に囲まれた戦争記念碑が
この時は、ちょっとちぐはぐに感じられました。
でも、今はわかる気がします。
それは、ウェールズの文化の基礎にはケルト文化があり、
外部の敵：侵略者が来たときは、ウェールズ人の中のケルト魂、ウェールズ魂を
もって戦うからだと思います。
旅行者の私には、ケルトと第一次世界大戦 (1914 -1918) が
結びつきが薄いけれども、土地の人々は昔からその魂を
持ち続けているのだと思うのです。

The War Memorial is surrounded with celtic patterns,
 that for me, seemed a little strange at that time.
However, now I feel I understand.
I think the basic culture of Wales was Celtic
and when enemies or invaders have come here,
Welsh people  fight with Welsh spirit including Celtic spirit.
I am a just tourist so my thought does not have strong connection 
between Celts and the First World War(1914 -1918),
however, I think locals have had the spirit from way back.
