コッツウォルズ旅行は、バースを拠点にし、宿泊は、自炊ができる、 "Contemporary Newly Built Cottage" を選びました。
そこに私達は、5泊しました。
バース入りする前に、グロスターシャー州 にある、ヒドコート・マナー・ガーデン 、宿泊後は、グロスターシャー州 のグロスター大聖堂 へ行きました。

18th - 20th of August
We chose "Contemporary Newly Built Cottage" : self-catering accommodation for the Cotswolds trip, which is based in Bath and where you can prepare your own meals.
We stayed there for 5 nights.
Before we entered Bath, we visited Hidcote Manor Garden in Gloucestershire, and after our stay, we visited Gloucester Cathedral in Gloucestershire.

| バース近郊 バースの街はあまりコッツオルズを感じませんが、 近郊の風景にはコッツオルズの丘があります。 Bath Outskirts The city of Bath doesn't feel like the Cotswolds, but the surrounding landscape has the Cotswolds hills. |

ノースリーチには行くだけは行きましたが、観光は諦めました。
最後は、私が通ったバース・スパ大学 / Bath Spa University を見に行きました。

20th of August
On this day (20th), we visited Burford in Oxfordshire, Sherborne Village in Gloucestershire
and traveled around Northleach in Gloucestershire to return to Bath.
We just drove through Northleach we didn't have any sightseeing.
Lastly, we went to see the Bath Spa University that I attended.

A.北から / From the North

バースの街には、いつものように車で、北から入りました。
バース・スパ大学も私が留学中に借りていた家も
街の北側だからです。
Lansdown Road
We entered the city of Bath from the north by car, as usual.
Both Bath Spa University and the house I rented while studying are
on the north side of the city.

B .クレセント(三日月) / Crescent
バースで有名なのが、ジョージアン様式の三日月型をした建物です。
"ロイヤル・クレセント / Royal Crescent" や "ザ・サーカス / The Circus"が有名ですが、他にもクレセントの建物は複数あります。
私が住んでいた家から大学まで通う間にも複数ありました。
当時は、大学の校舎の1つもクレセントの建物: Somerset Placeでした。
Famous in Bath are the Georgian crescent-shaped buildings.
The "Royal Crescent" and "the Circus" are famous, but there are several other Crescent buildings.
Some of them were on the route from my house to university.
At that time, one of the university buildings was a Crescent building : Somerset Place.

| 色々な思いを抱えながら歩いた道。 それはもう、10年以上も昔のことになってしまいました。 I walked on this road with various feelings, that is now more than 10 years ago.. |
サマセット・プレイス
英国指定建造物、1級です！ 私の在学中は、このクレセント: Somerset Place が校舎でした。
ここがこの大学の素敵なところの1つでしたが、大学は売ってしまいました。
残念です。 Somerset Place : ★ This is Grade I listed building. While I was at university, this crescent : Somerset Place
was a university building.
This was one of the lovely things about this university, however, the university has since sold it. That's a shame. |

C. 景色 / Views
辛いことがあった時、美しい景色に、どれだけ救われたことか....
'美しい' というのは、かけがえないの癒しの1つであると思います。
When I had a hard time, how much was I saved by the beautiful scenery...
I think that "beauty" is one of irreplaceable healing.

街中であるにもかかわらず、羊がいます。
在学中、私は、毎日、この子たちを見つつ通いました。 Despite being in the city, there are sheep. While attending university, I walked passed these every day.   The sheep also saved me ... how hurt was I ! (Laugh) |

D. 校舎 / University Buildings

サマセット・プレイスの端
今は通常の住居になってしまっているようですが、 大学が所有し、学生寮にもなっていました。 その時は、こんな綺麗な状態ではありませんでした。
Somerset Place End : ★
It seems that it has become a normal residence now,
but it was owned by the university and part was also a student dormitory.
At that time, it wasn't in such a beautiful condition.

| ここは今も昔も大学の敷地です。 This is the site of the university both now and in the past.  この入り口は、正面玄関ではありません。 This is not the main entrance. |

| この階段を登って通いました。 この景色はほぼ同じです。 I went up these steps. This view is almost the same. |

| この建物の1階が陶芸科でした。 今は、陶芸科はなくなってしまいました。 The ground floor of this building was part of the ceramics department. The ceramics department has gone now. |

| このあたり(裏)も陶芸科。 突き当たり1階にロクロの部屋がありました。 This (the back) was also the ceramics department. At the end of the ground floor was the wheel classroom.  卓球台のようなオブジェ？彫刻？ An object like a table tennis table? or is it Sculpture? |

| 正面玄関近くのスタジオ 生徒はいない時期です。 次の年の準備をスタッフがしているようでした。 Studio near the Front Door At this time of year there were no students. The staff seemed to be preparing for the next year. |
E. 変化 / Changing
私が卒業後に、メインキャンパスは、ここ(Sion Hill)から、のニュートンパーク/ Newton Park に移りました。日本の有名大学が東京から郊外へ移って行くのと似ていると思います。
この移動と同時に、大学の発祥のメインの学科の1つであった陶芸科が消滅しました。
After I graduated, the main campus moved from here (Sion Hill) to Newton Park which is in the outskirts of Bath.
I think it's similar to famous Japanese universities moving out from Tokyo to the suburbs.
At the same time as this move, the ceramics department, which was one of the main departments at the time of the university's origin, disappeared.

| バース・スクール・オブ・アート・アンド・デザイン バース・スパ大学のアート部門 : バース・スクール・オブ・アート・アンド・デザインが サイオン・ヒル (Sion Hill) にあります。 私は、ここで学びました。 Bath School of Art and Design Bath Spa University has an art department : Bath School of Art and Design in Sion Hill. I studied here.  かっこいい正面玄関に変わりました。 テムズ川沿いの建物をちょっと思わせます。 This has changed into a cool front door. It reminds me a bit of buildings along the Thames. |

| 敷地内に彫刻が配置されていました。 生徒の作品かなと推測します。 私の在学中にはありませんでした。 Sculptures are placed in the grounds. I guess they are student works. They were not here while I was in Univ.  私がふらふらしつつ撮影していると、 この彫刻は角度によって様々な表情があることに気がつきました。 面白いです。 As I was photographing around, I noticed that this sculpture had various expressions, depending on the angle. It's fun!   |
作品選考者の好みが少しわかる気がします。
どっしりよりも、軽い感じが好きなのでしょう。私もです。
I feel I understand the tastes of the selector of the works.
I think you like a lighter feeling rather than a heavy one.... me, too.
4) 南へ / To the South
大学から、宿泊地の "Contemporary Newly Built Cottage" に向かいます。
宿泊地は、バースの南側で、中心地から少し離れていました。
バースの街を車から観光しつつ、帰りました。

Affluent Residential Area Near University
 ほんと、お金持ちの家っぽい家はたくさんあります。 Bath is known as a wealthy city. There are many gorgeous homes. |
To the South
From the university, head to the accommodation : "Contemporary Newly Built Cottage".
Our accommodation was on the south side of Bath, a little far from the centre.
We returned, I had sightseeing in the city of Bath from our car.

ザ・サーカス/ The Circus は有名ですね。
The Circus is famous.

ザ・サーカスは通り抜けましたが、ロイヤルクレセントは通りませんでした。
私達は南 (左へ) 進みました。
To the Right : heading northwards is towards Bath Spa University.
We passed The Circus, but not the Royal Crescent.
We went south (to the left on this map).
