"グロスターとは、『輝く川の上のとりで』
（古英語でceasterとは'fort'を意味する）という意味の言葉である。
古いウェールズ語で、町はCaerloyw
（CaerはCastle、loywはgloywに発した言葉。
gloywはglowingまたはbrightという意味となる）
と呼ばれた。"

According to Wiki about Gloucester,
"Caerloyw is: caer (meaning "fort, stronghold or castle") and loyw,
a lenition of gloyw as it would have therefore early been pronounced
among many speakers, means 'bright/shiny/glowy'.
The name Gloucester thus means roughly 'bright fort'.
Medieval orthographies include Caer Glow, Gleawecastre and Gleucestre."

今まで英国の昔の町や村を訪ねた時に、建物が傾いていたり、歪んでいたりしていた記憶があります。
ですが、ここは、昔の町なのに、建物がしっかりしている印象でした。
I remember that when I visited old towns and villages in Britain, the buildings were tilted or distorted.
However, even though this is an old town, I had the impression that the buildings were solid.

| 人通りが少ないのは、明るくてもかなり遅い時間だからだと思います。 殆どのお店は閉まっています。 英国のこの時期は、日本では考えられないくらい遅くまで明るいのです。 I think the reason why there are few people is because it's bright and quite late. Most shops are closed. This time in Britain is bright as late as it can be in Japan. |

I didn't know until this day that there is a Dock in Gloucester.

| せっかく来たグロスターなので、少し散策をしたいと思いました。 何も望まずに、興味のむくまま進みました。 I visited Gloucester, so I wanted to take a walk a little. I didn't want anything and went on with my interest.  私にとって建物が面白かったので、進みました。 The building was interesting for me, so I proceeded. |

| ドック内の建物は、住居として使用されているのかなと推測しました。 I speculated that the buildings in the dock are used as residences. |

私にとっては、ろうそくは、'希望の光' なのですが、
作者にとってはどのような意味があるのでしょうか？
"The Candle" By Wolfgang Buttress (1965~) This is 21m high sculpture.
For me, candles are 'light of hope ', but what does that mean to the creator?
