Kanmon Bridge From Shimonoseki Side |
Yoshitsune Statue with Kanmon Bridge in the background
After
the Tunnel, there was Dan-no-ura! Indee~d Dan-no-ura! ! I
was impressed!
In
Japan, here is a popular location as the last place of
Genpei
War (1180 - 1185) : Battle
of Dan-no-ura (1185).
The
statue of Yoshitsune (1159 - 1189) welcome us there. |

Dan-no-ura
River Mimosuso Park : Mimosusogawa Park is located along Dan-no-ura between National Route 9 and Kanmon Straits.
As usual we got to our goal : Shimonoseki side
of Kanmon Tunnel as the last of our tour group, and when we got to River
Mimosuso Park, most of our fellows had finished looking at the Park, the
time was close to leaving there.
So
we could not enough look at the Park even thought the park is not so
big.
Actually while other people waited for us, our bus guide using her brains quickly suggested they look at the park, so we could not help it.

River
Mimosuso Park
Yoshitsune
Statue shows us 'Yoshitsune's Hassotobi' :
the
Jumpings from a boat to boat 8 times in the Battle
of Dan-no-ura,
his
characteristic of being nimble.
There
are some hand prints of actors and actress on coppered board who
played in
a
TV drama series of "Yoshitsusne" (2005)
by NHK.
After
I explained to R about
Yosihitsue
'Most
Japanese like Yoshitsune rather than elder brother,
Minamotono
Yoritomo (1147 - 1199 / reign 1192 -1199) who was the
founder of the Kamakura
Shogunate (1180 - 1192), the first Shougun.',
our
tour conductor S San
said
'All
of us. Everybody!'.
Indeed Yoshitsune must
be popular. (laugh)

Taira
no Tomomori (1152 -1185) joined
many of his fellow clan members
in
committing suicide.
They
say he tied an anchor cable to his feet, the anchor is on his

and leapt
into the sea.

It is quite clear, although I cannot see Heikegani (below)
It
is locally believed that these crabs are reincarnations of
the spirits of the Heike warriors
defeated at the Battle
of Dan-no-ura
as told in The Tale of the Heike. |
Heikegani
with human-like faces (at left, with a close-up in the box to the

by Utagawa

Replica Choushu Cannons
In
1863, Chōshū Domain blockaded Kanmon
Straits and fired cannons on ships of
France,
the Netherlands, the United
States and
then
it generated Shimonoseki Campaign (1863
-1864).
'River Mimosuso Park' : 'Mimosusogawa Park' is the site of the Battery,
so there are 5 replica Chōshū Cannons.

When Itō
Hirobumi (1841
- 1909) and Inoue
Kaoru (1836 -1915) studied abroad in Britain as part of the Chōshū
Five and they heard about the war, they returned to Japan from Britain to stop the war, because they knew the other National powers
were much more powerful, so that they could foresee the
result. They petitioned to stop the war, however, Chōshū
Domain carried on the war and then the joint
naval forces attacked Chōshū until
they gave up.
Itō
Hirobumi and Inoue
Kaoru were both students of Shoin Yoshida (1830
- 1859).

When I visited there I did not know that one of 5 cannon can make steam or smoke and a sound of cannon with some coin.
Now I understand, when I returned to our coach I saw steam from the cannon.
