Kazue-machi Chaya District
Kazue-machi Chaya District
I thought we walked towards Nishi Chaya District from Higashi Chaya District,
although in fact, we went to Kazue-machi Chaya District.
"Kazue-machi" was the town name along the Asano River in Kanazawa City, which was revived as the old town name in 1999, it became the lead in the "old town name resurrection movement".
Although Toda Kazue passed away at the young age of 24, his Kokudaka as stipend was
as high as the Daimyō, he distinguished himself in
Siege of Osaka (Winter Campaign in 1614 and Summer Campaign in 1615)
and the third Kaga Domain Lord Maeda Toshitsue gave him a letter of thanks,
and Toda Kazue's wife was the granddaughter of the first lord,
Maeda Toshiie (1539 - 1599).
I think that regardless of his promising future, there was also a feeling that the local people regretted that Toda Kazue had gone early and wanted to commemorate his name.
We walked in Kazue-machi Chaya District, we did not go to Nishi Chaya District.
Well, I'm looking forward to the next time in Nishi Chaya District.
Left Higashi Chaya District
We were walking along East side of Asano River.
The day before I heard from a taxi driver that
the Asano River is called Onna River : Woman River
and Sai River is called Otoko River : Man River. |
Higashi Chaya District and Nishi Chaya District were formed in 1820 with the permission of the 12th Kaga Domain Lord Maeda Narinaga (1782 - 1824).
"Higashi Chaya District" is the East : Higashi side of Asano River, "Nishi Chaya District" is the West : Nishi side of Sai River.
However, Kazue-machi Chaya District was made in the Meiji Period (1868 -1912) .
"Asano River Big Bridge"
The bridge is an arch bridge across the Asano River.
It was completed in 1922 and repaired in 1988. |
View from Asano River Big Bridge We were crossing the "Asano River Big Bridge" and headed toward the West side. |
Kazue-machi Office I thought it was an accounting office (laugh), though this building ia a training institute for Geisha.

Teriha
Sakura ; Teriha Cherry Tree
The
'Teriha Sakura' was named after
Izumi
Kyōka (1873
-1939)'s novel, "Teriha Kyogen" [1900 / Shunyodō]
It is early for cherry blossom season, so now it is just a tree, however, during the flowering season, this alley's atmosphere will be even more traditional.

On
this day, it seemed there was something like an event
and
we could not visit, usually it seems possible.
Although
it is only from the work of the posters,
I feel his works are like caricatures representing the use of woodblock printing method. |
Kuragari-zaka" ; 'Dark Hil'l
S chan
told us that Danna-shu : successful businessmen in Owari
Town,
were
using this dark slope : "Kuragari-zaka"
to go to the Chaya District while avoiding the public eye.
It
appears, to my eyes, that they went to the Chaya
District with a light heart.
There is a 'Kuboichi-ototsurugi-gu Shrine' on top of the hill. The photograph is too dark with the backlight, sorry. / We went back. |
The special latticework is very finely detailed which makes
it hard to see in looking from outside, but easy to see out
from inside.
The paint colour originally used red pigment from Bengal.
At that time 'Bengara' in Japanese meant Red
Iron Oxide.
I like alleys.
At the end of this Alley, "Akari-zaka"
Although the slope had no name for a long time,
in 2008 a Japanese novelist, Hiroyuki Istuki (1932 -) named it
"Akari-zaka" ; 'Bright Hill'.
There is the novelist's work,“Kanazawa Akari-saka”
[2015 / collected short stories / Bunshun-Bunko].
We did not go down this alley. |
There are 'Kuragari-zaka' (Dark Hill ) and 'Akari-zaka' (Bright Hill) , so they become a pair.
