1) Rの英国の友人来日 / R's British Friends Visit
初めて、Rの関係者(家族を含む) が日本にやってきました。
すごく嬉しい！
Rの大学時代の友人カップル : J&S、現在はご夫婦です。
彼らは英国から、日本旅行のツアーに参加していたので、会うチャンスが彼らが日本に到着した、この日だけでした。
私達は、彼らが宿泊している京王プラザホテルを訪ねました。
私は、京王プラザホテルの名はなんども聞いてはいましたが、行くのは初めてでした。
もちろん、Rもです。
彼らには、英国で、彼らの息子さんの結婚式に参加したので、初対面ではありません。
とても素敵な結婚式で心に残っています(下記)。

その結婚式の翌日も、彼らと彼らの家族と一緒にすごし、彼らが親切で優しいことが、表面的なことでなく、心から彼らが暖かな人達であることを感じていましたので、再開することがとても嬉しかったです。
彼らは15時間のフライトを終えたばかりでしたが元気そうに見えました。

R's British Friends Visit
It was the first time R's friends or his family, visited Japan.
I am so glad about their visiting.
They are a couple, both are R's university friends, J&S.
They jointed a tour from Britain so they could only make time on the day they arrived in Japan.
We visited their hotel : Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku, actually for the first time I visited this hotel, though I had heard the name many times.
Of course, R, too.
I had met them when their son had a wedding ceremony in UK, so it was not our first meeting.
That ceremony was very lovely in my memory, below.

I had spent time with J&S and their family on the day after the ceremony, I felt they are kind and gentle, I understood that it is not superficial, they are truly warm from their hearts, so I was really pleased I would see them again.
They looked fine, even though they just had finished 15 hours flight.
Of course, R, too.
I had met them when their son had a wedding ceremony in UK, so it was not our first meeting.
That ceremony was very lovely in my memory, below.

2) 東京都庁舎
Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building
彼らのガイドさんが東京都庁舎 (都庁ビル) の展望室へ行くことを提案してくれていたので、そこへ行きました。
都庁ビルと京王プラザは近くてとても良い選択に思いました。
私は行ったことはありますが、それは英国留学前のことでしたし、Rも初めてのことでしたので、私達にとっても '観光' でした。
東京都庁第一本 庁舎 : ★
丹下健三 といえば、代々木体育館を思いますが、
これも彼の建築だったのですね。
他にも広島平和記念資料館など、たくさんの大きな建物を設計しています。
都庁ビルの展望室 : ★ は、45階（地上202m）で、
「南展望室」と「北展望室」があります。
入室料は両展望室とも無料。

Speaking of Kenzō Tange, Japanese think of
Yoyogi National Gymnasium built for 1964 Summer Olympics.
He designed Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and many other big buildings.
There are two observation rooms : the South and the North,

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building
Their guide recommended the observation rooms of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, so we went there.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and their hotel is very close, so I felt a good idea.
I had been there, although it was before my studying abroad in Britain, and this was R's first visit, so it was sightseeing for us, too.

木々の部分は、明治神宮 (南側)
展望室にはカフェがあり、そこで近況報告などのおしゃべりをしました。
彼らのかわいいお孫さんの写真を見せていただきました。
彼らの幸せが伝わってきて、こちらも嬉しくなります。

There
is a cafe in the observation room we had chatting including our
updates.
They
showed us photographs of their lovely grandchild.
Their happiness moved to me which made me happy, too. |
3) 異文化 / Different Cultures
新宿駅東口の伊勢丹や南口の高島屋のデパ地下に連れて行けたら、日本のデパ地下の充実ぶりを披露することができたのですが、旅の疲労と時間と往復の距離を考えると、都庁周辺での私の知識は貧困で、小田急のデパ地下しか選択肢がありませんでした。
それでも、多少は食における異文化を感じていただくことができたでしょうか？
Different Cultures
S asked me about a department store (food floor?), so I took them to Depachika : basement floor of a department store, Odakyu Department Store.
If I had taken them to Isetan Department on the East side of Shinjyuku Station or Takashimaya Department on the South side of the Station, I could introduce them to Japanese Depachika's richness, however, I considered their tiredness, time and distance of the walk both ways, plus my knowledge is poor around the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, so I only chose the Depachika of Odakyu Department Store.
I hoped that they could feel a little bit different food culture, even in that Dapachika.

| イースターエッグ これも異文化のひとつですね。 日本でも場所によってはイースター (復活祭) のディスプレイや イースター・エッグを見ますけれど、まだまだクリスマスやハローウィンのような 認知度ではありません。 彼らもイースターは、英国風というか、西洋文化と考えて お土産として用意してくれたのだと思います。 お菓子、カード、ラッピングとしての袋... それらの選択に彼らの優しさが伝わってきます。 ありがとう、J&S! Easter Eggs This is one of our different cultures, isn't this? I have seen the display of Easter or Easter Eggs, although it hasn't reached the same degree of recognition in Japan as Christmas and Halloween. I guess that they considered 'Easter' is British style or Western style for Japanese, and then they selected these as souvenirs. The choice of the sweets, the card and the bag as wrapping again showed me their warm hearts. J&S, Thank you very much! |
