| B&Bからウィットビー/ Whitby に出て、海岸線に沿って南下、 スカーバラ/ Scarborough にやってきました。 We started from B&B to Whitby, then down to the South along the coast and then arrived in Scarborough. |

崖下の道は、ロイヤル・アルバート・ドライヴ
/
Royal Albert Driveで、
その脇が駐車場になっています。私達は、この駐車場を使用しました。
南西 (写真の左下) からお城に向かって登り、
帰りはお城の北 (写真上) から道路へ降りて行きました。
(そのときのことは次のセクションで）
Scarborough Castle
Scarborough Castle stands on a rocky promontory overlooking
the North Sea.
Well, even though it says 'Castle', it does not seem to be there.
'Royal
Albert Drive' runs around under the rock.
One side of the Drive is carparks. We
used the carparks.
We approached from the South-west (bottom left) to the castle,
it
was quite a climb, and later we walked down to the road
from
the North of the Castle (top)
on our back way. (See
next section)

2) 楼門 / Tower Gate

正門
：門塔 / バービカン・ゲート
断続的ではあるものの、この地に人が住み始めて、約3000年経ちます。
1243年から1245年にかけて築きました。
この王様はわずか9歳で即位しているのですね。
現在の門は、およそ1300年の元の門を考慮して再建築されています。
門の左から続く要塞すべては、1405年から残されています。

There has been intermittently inhabited for nearly 3,000 years.
Henry
assumed the throne when he was only 9 years old.
In
the left-hand tower is all that remains of carved shield bearing the
royal arms
in
a form current from in 1405. |

1159 to 1169, it was built by Henry
II (1133 - 1189 / reign 1154 -1189 ).
The Anarchy (1135
-1154) was finished by this king.

グレート・タワーを見ながら
頂上について、まずお茶です。二人とも、ちょっと息切れ状態。
イングリッシュ・ヘリテッジのテント(黒地に赤のマーク)では、 スタッフがお土産品のワイン、試飲をすすめていました。 イングリッシュ・ヘリテッジのスタッフもこんなことするのね〜 と珍しく思って、お茶を飲みつつ見てました。 While We Look at the Great Tower After we got to the top, anyway tea~! Both us were out of breath. There was an English Heritage tent (black one), the staff encouraged tasting of their souvenirs of wine. While I thought it was unusual English Heritage did this, I watched with my tea.  ティールームの上は博物館 / Museum is above the Tearoom. |

中世時代の教会がありました。
Around here were the Roman Signal Station (AD 43 - 409 or 410)
崖縁に信号局

シグナル・ステーション'と中世時代の教会の跡があります。
Near the cliff edge are the remains of the Roman Signal Station and the Medieval Chapel. 
'シグナル・ステーション'が4世紀にここにあり、
沿岸監視所 (海からの来訪者を監視する) 群のひとつでした。 The Signal Station was here in the 4th century,
one of a
coastal chain that watched for seaborne raiders.

D. 壁のカーテン /
Curtain Walls

| 南西にあります。少なくとも13世紀初期からある壁です。 The Curtain Walls are to the South-west. There, at least, from the early 13th Century. |
 王室の住居 13世紀初期に建てられていました。 当時、大きな家は、台所は別棟に建てられたのが一般的で、 ここも台所は別のところにありました。 The Chamber Block was built in the early 13 Century. At that time, it was common for grand houses to have a separate kitchen, here too. |
  残念ながら、台所はほとんど残されていません。 Unfortunately little of the kitchen remains. |

この先に、コックヒル塔 /
Cockhill Tower があったのですが、
侵食で落ちてしまっています。 Beyond was the Cockhill Tower, although it has since fallen by erosion of the cliff.  |

マグパイ
(カササギ)
朝鮮半島から持ち帰った個体が定着したといわれ、
鳴き声からカチガラスとも呼ばれます。
昨晩、シーフード・レストランのマグパイ/
Magpie に行ったので、撮影。
Magpie
Magpies are not seen in the Kantō
region of Japan,
although
it is common in Saga
prefecture, Kyushu, Japan.
Yesterday
evening, we went to the seafood restaurant, "Magpie",
so
I photographed this.

| この遺跡があるので、この場所にお城があったのだと、どうにか認識できます。 I could at least recognize here was a Castle because this ruin is here.  ヘンリー2世 / Henry II によって、1159年と1169年の間に建てられました。 It was built by Henry II between 1159 and 1169.  地下1階、地上3階建。27mの高さで、壁の厚さは3.5mあります。 There were a basement and three levels. The height is 27m and the walls 3.5m thick. |

| Hairy Bobs Skatepark お城の崖下には、ハリーボッズスケートパーク / 'Hairy Bobs Skatepark' (スケートボード用地) があります。 この環境にあっているな〜と、これを企画した人のアイディアに関心しました。 道は、ロイヤル・アルバート・ドライヴ / Royal Albert Drive。 この脇を歩きましたが、たくさんのキッズがいました。 There is 'Hairy Bobs Skatepark' . I think it suits the environment, I was impressed that somebody had the idea about this. The road is Royal Albert Drive. We walked beside the park, a lot of kids were there. |
