1957年に作られ、2009年からここを走っています。
Built in 1957, it was purchased by NYMR in 2009.

"ノース・ヨークシャー・ムーアズ鉄道" は、保存鉄道で、蒸気機関車 や
ディーゼル機関車 がノース・ヨーク・ムアーズ国立公園の中を走ります。

全長18マイル (28.8km)、ウィットビーとピッカリングを結んでいます。

蒸気機関車の世界高速最高記録をもつ'マラード号4468' (4468 Mallard) のとほぼ同じ機関車、ナイジェル・グレスリー 卿 号 / 'Sir.Nigel Gresley' (下の写真) 
も走っています。

'ナイジェル・グレスリー卿'の名前は、'マラード号4468' を設計、英国で最も有名な機関車設計士 、
ハーバート・ナイジェル・グレズリー卿/ Sir Herbert Nigel Gresley (1876 -1941)
(下の写真) に由来します。

ゴースランド駅 / Goathland Station は、ハリー・ポッターの映画、
第1作 "ハリー・ポッターと賢者の石" (2001) で、
ホグワーズ / Hogwarts 行き特急列車の終着駅「ホグズミート駅 / Hogsmeade」の
撮影が行われた場所です。

また、英国のTVシリーズ "ハートビート/ Heartbeat" (1992 - 2010 ) の撮影 地でもあります。

Locomotive engineer,  Sir Herbert Nigel Gresley

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has Steam Locomotives and  Diesel Locomotives running through in the North York Moors National Park.

The railway is 18 miles long, between Whitby  and Pickering.

One of the Locomotives, 'Sir. Nigel Gresley' is identical to 4468 Mallard which is the holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives.

The name, 'Sir.Nigel Gresley' came from Sir Herbert Nigel Gresley (1876 -1941) 
who was one of Britain's most famous steam locomotive engineers and designed 4468 Mallard and this. 

In addition, Goathland Station is one of the locations of the 1st Harry Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (2001) as Hogsmeade Station the Hogwarts Express stop.

British TV series "Heartbeat" (1992 - 2010)" also used this station.

グロスモント駅 
私達のB&Bは、ウィットビーとグロスモント駅のおよそ中間地点にあります。
機関車は時間によって違う型が走っていて、
いつも蒸気機関車に乗れるとは限りません。
ウィットビー駅前の駐車場がとても小さいことを前日確認していました。
駐車場や時刻表などを考慮して、始発の蒸気機関車の
グロスモント駅からピッカリング駅行きに乗ることにしました。

Grosmont Station
Our B&B is half-way between Whitby and Grosmont Stations.
Different locomotives run depending on their timetable,
so we cannot always go on a steam locomotive train.
The day before we had found that the carpark 
in front of Whitby Station is very small.
We considered about these and decided to go on 
the first steam locomotive from Grosmont Station to Pickering.

私達が到着したときに、すでに蒸気機関車が駅にはいました。
けれでも、これは私達が乗る機関車ではありませんでした。
とくにかく、撮影！

When we arrived at the station, a steam train was already there.
However, this was not ours.
Anyway, I started taking photographs.

私は蒸気機関車の車輪が好き。
I like the wheels of steam locomotives.

動くようです〜！ / It starts moving!
この機関車をAとします。
This is A .

Aは行ってしまったけれど、また戻ってきて駅を通りこしました。
A has gone...came back and passed the station.

違う機関車(B)が客車をひいて来ました。
The second one : B came, pulling carriages.

プラットホームの先頭まで移動しました。/ I went to the far end of the platform.

私達の蒸気機関車の到来をわくわくしつつ待つ

Waiting With Excitement For Our Steam Locomotive 

 Aが遠くで待機しています。
 A waits further back .

反対側のエンジン車(B)だけが離れて行きます。
初めて蒸気機関車が２両同時にレール上にあるのを見ました。

While A waits, B, alone, goes backwards.
I have never seen two steam locomotives at the same time.

三両めが、私達の機関車 :  C ！客車をすでに引いています。
ここには３台も機関車があります〜！
もう、こんな景色、見られないかも！

The third one : C  is ours and already pulling carriages.
Here are three engines!
I will not see this view again!

Bが通り過ぎてここを去って行きます。
B is passing and leaving here.

Aが来て、客車に接続します。
A is coming and picking up the carriages.

私達の機関車も動き出しました！
Ours starts to move!

待ってましたよ〜!
何故、こんなにめんどくさーいことになってしまうかというと、
この鉄道は転車台 (ターン・テーブル)を持っていないからです。
見る方にとっては面白いですよね。

 I was waiting for you!
Why is it complicated like this?
Because the railway does not have any railway turntable.
But for the audience, it is much more fun, isn't it?
