"The
Old House"
に7月6日まで8日まで3泊しました。
このB&Bを選んだのは、名前の通り、古い家であったからです。
商店街のティンバーハウスと違って、装飾過多になっていず、
オリジナルを感じる建物です。
彼女の廷臣、ロッキー/ Rocke 家が、この家の主でした。
シュルーズベリもシュロプシャー州にあります。
"The
Old House"
We
stayed in a B&B : "The Old House" in Shrewsbury for
three nights,
on
6th~ 8th of July, 2015.
I
selected here because as the name shows, the B&B is an old
house.
This
house was built in the late 1490s.
I
feel that British Tudor
style (1485 -1603) wooden
buildings are half timbered,
the
house is Tudor style, too.
The
house is different from Timber-framed house in streets of shops
which
tend to have a superabundance of decoration, so I feel this original.
Catherine
of Aragon (1487 - 1536) was the first wife of Henry
VIII (1491 - 1547) ,
after
she was divorced from the king
she
lived at nearby Ludlow Castle in South Shropshire,
among her courtiers,
the Rocke family was the owner of "The Old House".

トニー ・ウォルター氏が現在の家主であり、B&Bも経営しています。
もしも宿泊客が望むのならば、約１時間のこの家のガイドツアーもしています。
私達もこのツアーに参加、といっても私達だけですが...しました。
Tony Walters, the present owner, manages the B&B and has a tour of the house about one hour, if his guest would like.
We joined the tour, although it was just for us.

両脇はザクロでキャサリン・オブ・アラゴンのモティーフで、
紋章はヘンリー8 世のもの。

1840年代に羽目板を修理した際に、
1500年代のオリジナルの 壁に残された壁画が発見されました。
In
the 1840s, when they repaired the panel they discovered
the
remains of the original wall painting in the 1500s.

祭壇?
羽目板の下に、キャサリン・オブ・アラゴンのモチーフのザクロと
ヘンリー8世の紋章が描かれた木の板があります。
B&Bでは、
"これは、ほぼ間違いなく、プロテスタントの迫害の間、
ひそかに造られた祭壇の名残りです。"
と言っています。
彼らの娘である、イングランド王になった
プロテスタントを迫害しました。
ただ、羽目板の裏にこんな世界があるのは、とても興味深いです。
Altar?
Below
the panel is a wooden panel painted with
Pomegranate motifs of
Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII's Coat of Arms.
B&B
says that
"This is almost certainly the remains of an
altarpiece secretly built
during protestant persecution."
Mary
I of England (1516
- 1558 / reign 1553 - 1558) was their daughter and
martyred strict Protestants.
Catherine
of Aragon was a true Catholic believer and brought up
Mary
I as an earnest Catholic believer, so as
far as I'm concerned,
I
do not understand why Catherine's motif was as an altarpiece of
Protestants.
However, it is very interesting that behind the face panel has these worlds.
