I had a day trip by steam locomotives of "Severn Valley Railway : ★"
with our friends J&S, my husband R.
We got on at Bridgnorth Railway Station and got off at Bewdley Railway Station.

ビュードゥリー駅は、セヴァーン川 / River Severn の東岸に位置し、町の中心地は
西岸にあります。
ビュードゥリー橋は、トーマス・テルフォード / Thomas Telford (1757 -1834) が
設計した、アーチ橋です。
1795年の大洪水により、古い橋が損傷し、トーマス・テルフォード橋に作りかえられました。

ビュードゥリーの景色は、この橋とセヴァーン川の景色に象徴されるように感じました。
 ビュードゥリー橋またはトーマス・テルフォード橋 1798年竣工
左上に聖アン教会 / St Anne's Church が見えます。
私達はこの教会へは行きませんでした。
ビュードゥリー橋から聖アン教会まではまっすぐで、
ビュードゥリーの町のメインストリート、
ロード・ストリート/ Load Street と呼ばれます。

We did not visit the Church. The road goes straight from the Bridge to St. Anne's Church which is the main road of the Town and is called Load Street. |

Thomas Telford's Bridge
Bewdley Railway Station is located on the Eastern bank of the River Severn and the town centre is on the Western bank.
So we went across Bewdley Bridge (Thomas Telford's Bridge) which is an arch bridge over the River Severn, designed by Thomas Telford (1757 -1834).
In 1795 deluge floods damaged an old bridge and it was replaced by the Thomas Telford's Bridge.
I felt views of Bewdley are symbolized by the view around this bridge and the River Severn.

トーマス・テルフォードは、世界遺産の"ポントカサステ水路橋"を
ウィリアム・ジェソップ (William Jessop /1745 -1814 )とともに設計しました。
Thomas Telford designed the World Heritage Site of the "Pontoysyllte Aqueduct"
with William Jessop (1745 -1814).

どこかで聞いた名前と思っていたのですよね〜。
町、教会、橋など、テルフォードの名前を持ったものが色々あるようです。
愛称は "道路の巨人(巨像)"
(Colossus of Roads)、ロードス島の巨像 (Colossus
of Rhodes) にかけたもの。
"道路の巨人(巨像)"は、世界の七不思議の一つです。

I thought I heard his name 'Telford' somewhere.
There seem to be many things with the name of Telford, for instance town, church, bridges, etc.
He was dubbed the Colossus of Roads (a pun on the Colossus of Rhodes).
The Colossus of Rhodes) is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
"Rhodes", "the
Seven Wonders of the World" and so on conjure the fantasy image which make me exciting.

セヴァーン川 / River Severn は、英国で最も長い川です。
民間語源では、名前は、妖精神話物語(またはケルト神話)の中の川の女神：サブリナ/ Sabrinaに由来すると考えられています。
サブリナ号でのクルーズは下記。

River Goddess, Sabrina
The River Severn is the longest river in Britain, running through the middle.
In folk etymology, the name is believed to come from the river goddess : Sabrina in a mythical story of a nymph (or Celtic mythology).
I remembered earlier in Shrewsbury being on a Cruise boat named Sabrina.

英語ではあひるも鴨 (Duck) なのです。
あっ！ガチョウです、きっと！
Ah! Domestic Goose, surely!Are they domestic ducks? 
白地に柄が入っているのは、アンコナ鴨 / Ancona Duck?
それともまだ子供のガチョウ？
The pattern on the white background is an Ancona Duck?
Or still a child of Domestic Goose?

When I had just began as an illustrator, I was invited by an editor and
we went to a poetry recital of Misuzu Kaneko.
At that time, I purchased this collection of poems,
this poem is especially impressive to me.
Also, the illustration is by my favourite illustrator, Takahata-san.
