    From Hampton Loade to Bewdley 

友人J&S、夫Rと私は、蒸気機関車が走る
 "セヴァーン谷鉄道 / Severn Valley Railway : ★" 
による日帰り旅行をしました。
セヴァーン谷鉄道のサイト : ★ / ★ (英語)

セヴァーン谷鉄道はシュロップシャー州とウスターシャー州にまたがる保存鉄道で、ブリッジノース駅 / Bridgnorth Railway Station から
キッダーミンスター駅 / Kidderminster Railway Station を結んでいます。

この間を往復したうち、
ハンプトンロード/ Hampton Loade からビュードゥリー/ Bewdley 到着前まで
をこのセクションに載せます。

"セヴァーン谷鉄道"開通時(1862)は、北はシュルーズベリ、南は、

ハットベリー / Hartlebury を結んでいました。

When the Severn Valley Railway opened (1862), 

it connected Shrewsbury in the north and Hartlebury in the south.

From Hampton Loade to Bewdley
I had a day trip by steam locomotives of "Severn Valley Railway : ★"  with our friends J&S,  my husband R.

The Severn Valley Railway is a heritage line in Shropshire and Worcestershire, and connects Bridgnorth Railway Station to Kidderminster Railway Station.

In this section, I show you from Hampton Loade to Bewdley in this round trip.

2) ハンプトン・ロード駅 

    Hampton Loade Railway Station 

この間は、どこにも下車していません。

写真は車窓からの景色です。

We did not get off anywhere during this.

The views in my photographs are from the window.

カメラを向けると多くの方々が笑顔を向けてくださいます。
Many people smile at the camera.

ホームに古本屋さんのようなお店があります。
There is a shop like a secondhand book shop at the platform.

3) セヴァーン川  / River Severn  

車窓からのセヴァーン川

"セヴァーン谷鉄道" (Severn Valley Railway )は、ほぼ、セヴァーン川に沿って敷かれています。

セヴァーン川は、英国で最も長い川で、ウェールズ中部のカンブリア山地から始まり、ブリストル海峡に流れ、その後ケルト海と大西洋に流れ込みます。

カンブリア / Cambriaは、ウェールズの昔の名前で、ウエールズ語"Cymru" (国)がラテン語になった言葉です。

国 : イングランド、スコットランド、ウェールズ、アイルランドの1つに当たるようです。

私が最初にセヴァーン川を知ったのは、
『修道士カドフェル シリーズ 』(1977 - 1994) [エリス・ピーターズ (1913-1995) 作]
でした。

先にも書いたようにセヴァーン川は長いので、多くの場所で目にし、その度に私は
カドフェルを思い出すのです。

今回の旅も、やはり、カドフェルを思い出し、シュルーズベリ / Shrewsbury の街も思い出しました。

セヴァーン川 

シュルーズベリ /  Shrewsburyは、

ブリッジノース / Bridgnorthやハンプトンロード/ Hampton Loade

の上流にあります。

Shrewsbury is upstream of Bridgnorth and Hampton Loade.

River Severn

The Severn Valley Railway is almost laid along the River Severn.

The Severn River, the longest river in Britain, starts  in the Cambrian Mountains of mid Wales and flows into the Bristol Channel and then into the Celtic Sea and the wider Atlantic Ocean.

Cambria is the old name of Wales and seems to be the Latin for "Cymru": country (one of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland).

The first I knew about the Severn River was 
'Brother Cadfael Series' (1977 - 1994) [by Edith Mary Pargeter (1913-1995)] . 

As I wrote earlier, the river Severn is long, so I see it in many places, and every time I come up with Cadfael.

This trip also reminded me of Cadfael and the city of Shrewsbury.

車窓からのセヴァーン川  / River Severn  From Window

無人駅の"Country Park Halt Railway Station"
リクエルト駅(request stop)ということですが、

乗るときは合図すれば止まってくれるのでしょうか？
こういう駅があることが素敵！
'ゆとり'ということを感じます。

この時は誰も降りず、乗らず、通り過ぎました。

 "Country Park Halt Railway Station" is an unstaffed request stop.

Will they stop if somebody wants to get on by showing a signal? 
It is lovely to have such a station!
I feel that is free of pressure.

At this time, no one got off, no one got on, and we passed.

 車窓から / From Window

建物や丘の起伏や緑がいいな〜！

Here is a good a balance of buildings, undulations of hills and greens.

川が護岸されていないことが好きです。
I like that the river is not embanked.

4) アルレイ駅 / Arley Railway Station 

信号扱所 

信号扱所は、信号や分岐器を操作するために設けられた建物です。
現在はほとんど統合電子制御センター(コントロールパネル）

が用いられているようです。

 Signal Box

Signal Box is a building that is used to operate signals and railroad switches.

It seems that at present mostly
Integrated Electronic Control Centre (control panels) are used.

錆びた重機が展示されて、良い雰囲気を作っていると思います。

I think that the rusted heavy machinery was exhibited

and created a good atmosphere.

ふと、これがもしもテート・モダンやテート・ブリテインに展示されていたら....

と想像しました。

私は現代アートは好きなのですが、時々、自分は、根本的には、思想やコンセプチュアルアートよりも、

ただ '美しいもの' が好きなのかもしれないと思います。

かといって、美しい形のみにこだわるのも好みではない....。

読み物に対しても似たようなことが言えます。

内容に興味があっても汚い文書や構成では好きになれないし、

体裁が良い文章や構成でも内容が好みでなかったら、読みたくないです！

Unintentionally I imagined that this would have been exhibited

at Tate Modern or Tate Britain....

I like contemporary art, but sometimes I think that basically I may like just 'beautiful things' 
rather than thoughts (ideas) or conceptual art.

However, I don't like to stick to beautiful shapes only.

I think the same can be said for reading material.

Even if I am interested in the contents, but their sentences and structures are dirty,

 I wouldn't like them, and even if they have well-written sentences and structures,

but the contents wouldn't be my favourite type, so again I cannot like them!

アルレイ駅 / Arley Railway Station のはずなのですが、

"FERNDELL"と表示されています。

もしかして、ウェールズ語で、書かれているのかもしれません？

It should be Arley Railway Station, but it says "FERNDELL".

Maybe it is written in Welsh?

魅力的な駅にするための努力が感じられます。

確かに、可愛い駅に感じます。

I can feel their efforts to make here an attractive station.

Certainly, it feels like a lovely station..
