静かさに反して、多くの人の出入りがあるそうで、
その人達に作品が見てもらえると聞きました。
アメリカンクラブの駐車場を利用する人が行き来するからだそうです。

I heard that there are many people coming and going 'against the quietness', so

people could see works, because if people use the parking in Tokyo American Club,

they would come in and out of the Gallery.

鎌倉在住の版画家、よしざわ ようこさん(★/ ★)とは数年前に、

二階堂の自宅で初めてお会いしました。

彼女のアフリカでの体験の話には、非常に驚かされましたし、

面白いものでした。

その後彼女の作品を知り、彼女の作品が好きになりました。

A few years ago, in my home in Nikaido, Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture
was the first time I met a print artist, Yoko Yoshizaki (★/ ★), 
who also lives in Kamakura. 

The story of her experiences in Africa was very amazing

 and interesting.

Later I knew of her work and I like her work.

2) よしざわ ようこ展 

　  Yoko Yoshizawa Exhibition 

よしざわようこさんからは、数回、グループ展や個展のお知らせをいただいていましたが、どれも、体調や都合が悪く行くことができませんでした。

フレデリック・ハリス・ギャラリーで開催された彼女の個展が、私が初めて訪れた
彼女の個展でした。

Rは、今年の2月に藤沢のさいか屋で開催された彼女のグループ展で、彼女にも彼女の作品にも会いました。

なので、彼にとっても、この彼女の個展は初めてです。

この個展前には、よしざわようこさんの作品は、
カバが印象的でした。

Before this Exhibition, I felt the work of Yoko Yoshizawa 
had an impressive hippopotamus.

Yoko Yoshizawa Exhibition 

I knew of several group exhibitions and solo exhibitions by Yoko Yoshizawa, 
but I couldn't get to any.

This was the first time I could visit her solo exhibition, in the Frederick Harris Gallery.

R met her as well as her works in her group exhibition which was held by the Saikaya Department Store in Fujisawa this February.

So for us, this was our first visit to her solo exhibition.

このギャラリーは、広々とした空間で
地下の閉塞感がありません。

This Gallery is a spacious space

with no feeling of being cooped up in a basement.

彼女は、版画家ではあるけれど、油絵も描き始めました。

Though she is a printmaker, she also began painting in oils.

彼女の動物達は、かわいいけれど力強さがあります。

また、ユーモアもあり、おおらかさもあり、見ていると幸せな気持ちになります。

明るく強い色、それがバランス良く構成されて、そこから前向きな姿勢または意志が感じられます。

彼女は精力的に制作を続けているように感じられ、それを伝えると、

「ここ数年はプレイベートなことで滞りがちであったけれども、昨年あたりから、またグループ展や個展などの企画が盛んになり始めた」

と彼女は言いました。

絵からも彼女からも元気付けられます。

Her animals are cute but powerful.

Also, her works have humour, are broad-minded, and made me happy when I looked at them.

Bright and strong colours, her works are well-balanced and from this I feel her positive attitude or will.

In my view she seems to work energetically, and when I told her like that, she said she had tended to be stagnant in recent years, but from around last year, plans such as group exhibitions and solo exhibitions flourished, the plans seem to be becoming more and more.

I can be cheered up by her pictures and by her.

ほろほろ鳥は彼女の好きなモティーフです。
Helmeted Guineafowl is her favourite motif.

彼女の描く動物たちにはそれぞれの性格が感じられます。

こういう動物というくくりよりも、この子は、"こういう子"という個別への思いが感じられるのです。

Her animals have their own personality.

I feel that her heart for her animals has a feeling of individuality, something like "this kind of child" rather than "this kind of animal".

彼女の友人の幾人かの画家達から、彼女の色使いは変わっていると言われたそうです。

「クーニーはどう思う？」

と聞かれました。

「それは蛍光色を使用したり、明るい色を使ったりするような意味？」

「そうみたい....」

「私はそんなに違和感は感じないけれど...。おそらくそれは私がイラストレーター出身なので、そういう配色に慣れているからなのかも？

そういう画家さん達は落ち着いた、くすんだ色合いを日頃使用しているから、

よしざわさんの色に違和感を持つのではないかしら？」
と返事をしました。

彼女は納得したように見受けられましたが、本当のところはどうなのでしょう？

Some of her painter friends told her that her usage of colour is uncommon,

she asked me

"What does Coonie think?"

I said

"That means using fluorescent colours or using bright colours?"

"I think so ...."

"I don't feel so strange ... but probably because I was an illustrator, so I was used to such colour usage.

I wondered if the painters usually use calm, dull colours, so they have a feeling of strangeness for your colours."

I replied like that.

She seemed to be convinced, but what is the real?

十二支を版画にした作品

The prints which made up the Twelve Earthly Branches

According to Wikipedia about Twelve Earthly Branches,
"The twelve Earthly Branches or Terrestrial Branches are an ordering system used throughout East Asia in various contexts, including its ancient dating system, astrological traditions, and zodiac."

十二支の一つ、辰 (タツ)

下記のこと、初めて知りました。
"「辰」は『漢書』律暦志によると「振」
（しん:「ふるう」「ととのう」の意味）で、

“草木の形が整った状態を表しているとされる。

後に、覚え易くするために神話上の動物である龍が

割り当てられた。”
ウィキペディアより

私達は、この作品を購入しました。

2019年5月14日 新しいドラゴンの到着 / New Dragon Arrival, 14th

One of Twelve Earthly Branches : 辰 : Tatsu : Dragon

It was the first time I knew that according to Japanese Wikipedia,

"According to 『Book of Han』,

'辰' : Tatsu is "律" (Shin: the meanings are control, 

exercise and sort out which means the shape of plants and 

trees is in order.Later, a dragon, a mythical animal, 

was assigned to make it easier to remember. "

We purchased this work.

2019年5月14日 新しいドラゴンの到着 / New Dragon Arrival, 14th

3) 三人展 / Three Person Exhibition

今年の2月に、"笹尾としかず・福井良宏・よしざわようこ三人展"が、藤沢のさいか屋で開催していました。

3人は、湘南生まれ、湘南在住のアーティストです。

この展覧会の初日に、Rと一緒に行きました。

そこで、よしざわさんの作品を実際に見たのが、初めてでした。

また、その展覧会で、4月の彼女の個展のことを知り、ぜひ行きたいと思ったのです。

それが実現でき、作品も購入でき、嬉しいです。

それぞれの違った個性がありつつも、
イラストレーションの匂いがする作品群でした。

 They had different personalities,
though I feel their works have illustrators taste.

In February this year, "Three Person Exhibition : Toshikazu Sasao, Yoshihiro Fukui and Yoko Yoshizawa" was held by Saikaya Department Store in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture.

The three are artists born and living in Shonan.

According to Wikipedia about Shonan ,

"Shōnan (湘南) is the name of a region along the coast of Sagami Bay in Kanagawa Prefecture, central Japan. 

Centered on Enoshima, an island about 50 kilometers southwest of Tokyo, the Shōnan region stretches from Odawara in the west to Hayama in the east, including Hiratsuka, Chigasaki, Fujisawa, and Kamakura. 

Because of the bay, the region benefits from a mild climate and long beaches covered with dark volcanic sand."

I and R visited on the first day of the Exhibition.

It was the first time we looked at her real pictures or prints.

And also I knew of her exhibition in April, which I really wanted to visit.

I am happy that I could make it happen and that we could buy her work.
