1) シャボテン温室 / Conservatories of Cacti

1959にオープン!
シャボテン公園は1959年にオープンしました。この写真は1961年頃の写真。
かつては大室高原
(オオムロコウゲン /
または伊豆高原 / イズコウゲン)、と呼ばれる高原地帯でした。
現在、公園では5つの温室と露地植えのロックガーデンに分かれて、 約1,500種類の世界中のサボテンや多肉植物が生育されています。 大室山 (オオムロヤマ) はお隣さんです。

Cactus
Park opened in 1959. This photograph is in c.1961.
Formerly
it was called 'Ōmuro Kougen', Izu Plateau. Nowadays the 5 Conservatories and a Rock Garden have about 1,500 species of Cacti and Succulents from all over the world.
Mount Ōmuro is next door. |

漢字で書くと「仙人掌」…実は日本語なんです。
外国では「cactus」カクタス…といいます。
シャボテンは音便で、鮭を「サケ」、「シャケ」というようなモノで、どちらも正解です。
現在では「サボテン」という言葉の方が一般的になり「シャボテン」とは呼ばなくなってきていますが伊豆シャボテン公園のできた昭和34年(1959年)当時はどちらも普通に使われていました。

Rosy Pelican or White Pelican is a bird in the pelican family.
In Japan, it is called Peach Colour Pelican,
because when they have a breeding season,
their body becomes peach coloured.
This one and others beside pond were peach colour.
Were they in the season?
I feel the breeding season in Spring...? Already Spring?

この鳥についての公式サイト: ★
仙人のような風貌、もしくは村の長老か？
「センちゃん」という名前がついています。
これって、仙人に由来しているのでしょうか？
ウィキペディアでは下記のようにあります。
狭義に借用したものであるが、そもそもはアラビア語 (murābiṭ) を起源とし、
ムスリムの聖者や隠者とその墓、そしてそこに集まる神聖な鳥を意味していた。"
やっぱり、私を含め、多くの人が仙人ぽく感じるのです。
嘴が折れてしまっているのが痛々しい...、ですが、公園側の告知板では、
"「センちゃん」はくちばしが折れているけれど、大丈夫！
とっても強いセンちゃんは、短いくちばしを上手に使って飼育員のなげる魚を
食べて元気にすごしているので、あたたかく見守ってください。"
とあります。
公園にはもう一羽のアフリカハゲコウがいるらしく、こちらは'ガッツくん'、
嘴に異常はないようです。

looks like Sennin: Hermit or Saint, or a father of a Village?
Its name is 'Sen Chan'.
Did the name come from Sennin?
According to Wikipedia
"The name Marabou is thought to be derived from
the Arabic word murābit meaning quiet or hermit-like."
I think many people including me, feel this bird like a Sennin.
This bird's beaks are broken, it looks pitiful, though the Park notice board says
"Sen Chan's beaks are broken, although it is alright!
It is very strong and it uses the short beak well when keepers throw fish the bird catches very well. So please look at it affectionately."
I see.
The Park has another one, his name is 'Guts Kun' and he has a normal beak.

| メキシコ政府より寄贈された古代遺跡のレプリカ 約5000年前の大室噴火でできた岩壁に配置されています。 The replica of ancient ruins donated by the Mexican Government. They are placed on a rock wall which was made by the great eruption of Ōmuro, about 5,000 years ago.  古代遺跡には、マヤ文明の遺跡も入っています。 私の記憶では、マヤ文明は残酷な儀式を行っていたので、 それらの遺跡群がこういった娯楽施設に配置されていることに驚きを感じました。 シャボテン公園は、ここだけでなく、結構、イロイロな面で 'オタク'が入っているのね〜と感じています。 The ancient ruins include ruins of Mayan Civilization. My memory is that the Mayan Civilization had some quite cruel ceremonies, so I felt surprise that these ruins are in an amusement facility like here. I feel the Park, not only here, but also in other parts holds Otaku elements. |
