| 部屋から'東海館'を見る 看板から名前だけはわかるのですが、この建物が何であるか疑問をもったまま ホテルをチェックアウト。 ホテルのスタッフに聞けば良かったのに、どうして聞かなかったのでしょう？ 疑問を持ち続けるほどの気力もなかったのかもしれません。 医者の薬を飲み続けて体をもたせていましたが、 どんよりした気分は抜けないままでした。 Looking down at a building 'Tōkaikan, from our room. The sign tells us its name, 東海館' : 'Tōkaikan', although I still did not know what it was. While I had the question, we checked-out of the hotel. I could have asked the hotel staff, why did I not? Maybe I did not have energy having the question continuously. I had taken medicine from a doctor and kept my body or my condition, although my gloomy feeling stayed with me always. |

ホテル横の松川に沿って歩き、海に向かいます。
道は舗装されて現代的なのに、古くからの温泉地であることが
感じられる、情緒ある雰囲気が残されています。
歩いている途中で、その道は、"松川遊歩道"と呼ばれていると知りました。
写真右側が"松川遊歩道"。
River Matsukawa : Matsu River
River Matsukawa flows beside the hotel, we walked down along the River.
The path is paved and modern,
though I felt here has been a spa town for a long time
and there is a good atmosphere.
While we walked there I found out the path is called
"Matsukawa Yuhodo" : "Matsukawa Promenade" ; on the right in the photograph.

| 松川遊歩道から'東海館'を見る 遊歩道の雰囲気を保たせているのは、この建物の存在や柳、 そして緩やかな川の流れ。 頭がぼーっとしていても、この道の良さは体感できましたが 元気であったならもっと細かなことに気がつけたのかもしれないと思います。 From Matsukaw Promenade to 'Tōkaikan' The atmosphere of the Promenade is made by the building and willows and moderate flow of the River. Even though I was a bit out of it, my body could felt the path was good, if I were well, I might have realized more of the detail about here. |

これな〜に？
好奇心がおきて、そばへ行きましたら、 オリーヴを挽くの石臼であるとわかりました。 2001年に、イタリアのリエティ市 / Rieti から贈られたとのこと。 1985年から、伊東市とリエーティ市は姉妹都市 (友好都市) なのですね〜。 What is this? I had curiousity about this, I was close to it and I found out this is a Stone Mill for Olives. Moreover, it was presented by Rieti in Italy. Ito City and Rieti have been Sister Cites (Twin Cities) since 1985.  モザイク画も贈り物
二つの都市を結びつけたのは、伊東市の「松川タライ競争」と
ベリーノ川
/ River
Velino で行われる「ワイン樽乗りレース」なのだそうで、
微笑ましい感じがします。
This
mosaic is also the gift.
The opportunity of the Sister Cities
were
"Race of Wash Tub in River Matsukawa" in Ito and
"Race
of Wine-barrels in River
Velino.
It
sounds a pleasant story.
 こちらはもう一方の面 このモニュメントの周囲には1986年以降、 毎年オリーヴの木が１本づつ植えられているようです。 年々増え続けて、将来どうなるのかしら？といらぬ心配をしました(笑)。 This is the other side. Around the Monument are olive trees which have been planted, one a year since 1986. I wondered if the trees increase year by year what will happen, never mind! (laugh) |

I heard this was designed by local primary school children.
日本人らしいタイトルだな〜と思います。
The title is Omoiyari-no-Kokoro,
I think it means friendship in Japanese or consider each other.
I feel this is so Japanese.

遠い昔に教科書で目にした名前、
ウィリアム・アダムズ / 三浦按針 (ミウラ・アンジン / 1564-1620)
をここで見ました。

I saw the name in my textbook a long long time ago.
Its name William Adams (1564 - 1620).

英国人、ウィリアム・アダムズ (1564 -1620) は、造船術、航海術を学び、航海士としてリーフデ号 / the Liefde に乗船し、1600年に日本に漂着、当初、投獄されますが、将軍になる前の徳川家康 (1543 - 1616) によって、釈放されました。
三浦按針の名の由来は、姓の"三浦"は領地 (逸見 / ヘミ) のある三浦半島に因み、
"按針"の名は、彼の職業である '航海士 (navigation officer) / 水先案内人' の意味です。

1607年には120トンのガレオン船 (日本名 : 按針丸)と作り、これはのちに、家康からスペイン人のロドリゴ・デ・ビベロ (1564 - 1636) に貸し出され、
"サン・ブエナ・ベントゥーラ号" / San Buena Ventura と名を変えて、メキシコのアカプルコ / Acapulco に到着しました。

江戸時代 (1603 - 1863) は鎖国時代と認識していましたが、鎖国が始まったのは、第2代将軍秀忠 (1579

彼の人生は数奇でしたね。
船乗りなら、本望なのでしょうか？
本国に、妻も子供も残しましたが、帰国を諦めた彼は商家の娘さんと結婚し、息子ジョゼフ (1605 - ?) と娘スザンナが生まれています。

その目的を遂げたのは、ウィリアム・アダムズ が乗ったリーフデ号だけでした。

Englishman, William
Adams (1564 - 1620) learned shipbuilding, navigation and sailed on a ship : the Liefde as navigation officer and
was cast ashore in Japan in 1600.
To begin with he
was imprisoned, although he was released by
Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543 - 1616), which was before he became Shogun in 1603.

not allowed to return to England, however, he had lived as Bushi :
Samurai and also he got Japanese name : Anjin

surname, 'Miura' came from 'Miura
Peninsular' where his land was, and Anjin means his role,
a navigation officer.
He
established the first shipbuilding dock in
Ito in Japan; and first had an 80 ton
galleon built in 1604.

and this was rented to Spanish, Rodrigo
de Vivero y Aberrucia (1564 - 1636)

I
recognized that Edo period (1603 - 1863) with Sakoku ; 'closed country' however, Sakoku started in the reign of the
second shogun,
Tokugawa Hidetada (1579 -1632) and was completed in the reign of the third,
Tokugawa Iemitsu (1604 - 1651).

Therefore the country was not closed in the reign of Ieyasu, William
Adams was
treated quite well and was trusted by Ieyasu.
However, after Ieyasu died, there
were William
Adams's dark days and he passed
away in Hirado, Nagasaki (Hizen
Province).
His life had many ups and downs, didn't it?
He
was a sailor, so maybe he was satisfied ?
He
left his wife and children in England and he had a Japanese wife
and
a son Joseph (1605 - ?) and a daughter Susanna ( ? -?).

4) "なぎさ公園" / "Nagisa Park : Shore Park"
松川河口には、'なぎさ公園' があります。
The 'Nagisa Park' is located at the mouth of the River Matsukawa.
 彫刻 同じ作家かと思われる彫刻がたくさんありました。ウィリアム・アダムズ 像も 帆船"サン・ブエナ・ベントゥーラ号" / "San Buena Ventura" の像も 同じ方の作品に思えました。 後になって、それらは、伊東出身の彫刻家、重岡建治 (1936 -) 氏 の彫刻だとわかりました。 重岡氏の作品は東海館にも展示されています。 その写真は次のセクションに載せます。 伊東市に愛されている、彫刻家さんなのですね。 Statues There are many statues which all seemed to be by one sculptor. I thought the same person made William Adams Statue and "San Buena Ventura", too. Later I found out that the sculptor is Kenji Shigeharu (1936 -) who is a local sculptor. His works displayed in 'Toukaikan'. I will put the photographs in a later section. He is loved by Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture.  |
