'リヴォール・テラス' / 'Rievaulx Terrace' は、林と二つの神殿があるテラス(高台)で、北ヨークシャーの裕福な一族の、
トーマス・ダンカム2世 / Thomas Duncombe II (? - ?)
によって1758年に作られた場所です。地図 →★(pdf)
彼は ドンカム公園 / Duncombe Parkのオーナーでもありました。
1972年にナショナル・トラストが林を含めた敷地を一族から購入しました。
現在は、ナショナル・トラストが管理運営しています。
テラスからリヴォール修道院跡 / Rievaulx Abbey を眺め下ろすことができ、それがここの一番の魅力です。
その景色があるからこその、'リヴォール・テラス' であると感じます。
私達はリヴォール修道院へ行き、その跡でここに来ました。
なので、雨にもかかわらず、とても興味ふかく、テラスを楽しく歩けたように思います。

Rievaulx Terrace
Rievaulx Terrace has woods, the Terrace with two Temples was created in 1758 by Thomas Duncombe II (? -?) who was one of the richest commoners in North Yorkshire.

He was the owner of Duncombe Park, too.
In 1972, the site with the woods were purchased by the National Trust .
Nowadays the National Trust manages there.
Visitors look down on Rievaulx Abbey from the Terrace which is the biggest
attraction here.
I feel they have the views so they could say 'Rievaulx Terrace'.
We came here after we visited Rievaulx Abbey.
So I think even though it was raining I was interested in the views and enjoyed walking.

森林浴
ナショナル・トラストの受付をすませて、林を歩きます。
雨なので、ちょっと気が重かったのですが歩き出すと だんだん気分が良くなって、道のりが楽しくなりました。 これが森林浴の力〜！ Forest Bathing After the registration at the National Trust office, we were going to walk in the woods. It rained so I lacked the motivation to walk, however, I started walking and then my feeling became better and better, and I could enjoy our way. It was a 'Forest Bathing' power!

| 英国で、大きなチェスセットが庭に置いてあるのを何度か見ました。 この林の中には複数のオブジェが設置されていました。 殆どのオブジェは、私の好みからは、外れていましたが チェス (上の写真) と狼または狐 (下の写真) のオブジェは好きでした。 In Britain, I saw big chess sets in some gardens. Here, there were a few objects in the woods. Most of them were not my favourite type, although I like the chess set (above) and the wolf or fox of object (below) . |

| 林を抜けるとテラスに出ます。 When we passed through the woods, the Terrace appeared. |

ここはテラスの南東になります。
床はリヴォール修道院の聖歌隊席から移送されてきました。
中には入れません。ドア窓から覗くことは可能ですが、
私達はそばまで行きませんでした。
Tuscan Temple
Here is the South-east end of the Terrace.
Temple is in the name, although it is just a Folly.
This is a
scaled-down version of the mausoleum at Castle Howard.
The pavement floor came from the choir of Rievaulx Abbey.
Inside can be peeped at from windows in the doors,
although we did not go any closer.

| 歩を進めると、木々の間に間に見える遺跡の景色が変わってゆくので、 なんども撮影してしまいます。 雨の中、撮影のために度々立ち止まってしまう私に 何も文句を言わず、大笑いしてくれるRに感謝！ When I walked along the Terrace, the views of the Abbey between trees and trees changed so that I photographed them many times. In the rain, I often stopped for photography and R never complained to me though he laughed aloud, I thank R. |

| ここからも見える！ 遺跡が見えるように、丘の木々を所々、切っているようです。 I can see it from here, too! It seems trees were cut in several places for looking at the ruins. |

| 高いところで見るとまた違う印象があります。 When I looked at them from high positions, the impressions are different. |

人が居ると遺跡の規模がわかりやすくなりますね。
I
found a person with a red jacket.
When the person is
there, it is easier to recognize the scale of the ruins, isn't it?

屋内 / Inside
 |
| 名前は神殿でも用途は、食事ができる休憩所 (または迎賓館 / banqueting house)でした。 使用人たちが食事を自宅 (★) から運び、地下で再び温めて料理を出しました。 現在、食卓や食器などが屋内にディプレイされています。 Even though the name is 'Temple', in fact, they used here
as a resting place and when meals were available as banqueting house.
Nowadays the table, tablewares and others are displayed inside.Their servants brought meals from the family's house (★) and warmed them up again in the basement.  食卓 / On the Table  マントルピースの上 / On the Mantlepiece |
