車が鹿を待つ
人々は鹿が道路を横切るのを待ちます。
何度となく、リッチモンドパークは車で通っています。
鹿が道路を渡る場面に初めて遭遇しました。

Cars Wait for Deer
People wait for deer which cross the road.
We often drive through Richmond Park.
This was the first time we saw deer walking across the road.

A. 鹿 / Deer 

リッチモンドパーク / Richmond Parkで散歩をしたことはありませんが、車ではよく通りぬけします。

制限速度は30kmなので、近道に通り抜けるというより、景色を楽しむために利用します。

犬を連れた人、家族連れ、ジョッキングをしている人、サンクリングの人、そしてシカ〜〜〜！

リッチモンド パークは、鹿で有名な場所です。

もともと、 王室の鹿の狩り場でした。

鹿は2種類、アカシカ (ほとんど無地) とダマジカ (背中に白い玉模様) で、合わせて600頭以上生息し、毎年11月~2月に間引きが行われているそうです。

公園は壁で一般地区とは区切られ、ゲートがいくつかあります。

車の入園には時間制限がありますが、人や自転車は24時間OKです。

私が最初の頃にびっくりしたのは、角つきの鹿と人間が檻や柵で区切られることなく公園を共有していることでした。

英国では鹿との距離は、個人で判断し、角で怪我をした人間がいるなら、その人間の判断能力がなかったとされるのです。

大人の考え方だな〜と感じます。

日本はちょっと子供っぽい？危険を感じることを学ぶよりも、取り除く方に躍起になります。

私自身も危険を取り除くという思考パターンです。

今までそのような在り方でやってきたので、'大人な考え方' をすぐに実施できるかというと、それはそれで難しいことですし、慣れていない私達は間違いや事故を頻繁に起こしてしまうでしょう。

ではどうしたら良いか、他に道はあるよ、他の考え方もあるのだよというのを認識するというくらいから始めたら良いと思います。

鹿が車を待つ
鹿も道路を横切るときは、右を見て左を見て、また右を見て？

そしてじっと人を見つめる....気のせいでしょうか？

こちらの考えを見通すようなその表情にどきどきします。

車はみんな止まっているのに、なかなか鹿は渡りません。

とても慎重な面を知ってびっくり！
実際、年に何度かは鹿は車で命を落とします。

Deer Wait for Car

When the deer walked across the road, they looked to the right, 
to the left and then again to the right?

And their eyes stare at us (me)...Was it just my imagination?

Their expression seemed to see through my thoughts and thump-thump！

Every car stopped, although the deer were slow to cross the road.

I was surprised by their careful side.
Actually some deer pass away by car accidents.

ようやく渡り始めました。/ Finally they moved.

Deer 

Although I haven't walked in Richmond Park, often I go through the park by car.

The speed limit is 20 miles per hour, so we use the route for enjoying the views rather than speed.

There are people with dogs, families, joggers, cyclists and deer~!

Richmond Park is famous for deer.

Originally here was a Royal deer hunting ground.

There are two types of deer;  Red and Fallow Deer, totally they are over 600 and the culling happens each November to February.

The park has high walls and has some gates.

The gates are opened 24 hours for people and cyclists, however, cars have limited times. 

At first I was surprised that deer have horns and people are in the park without cages or fences. 

In Britain, the distance between deer and people is decided by their own judgements and when somebody is injured by the deer, British would think the person's judgment was wrong.

I feel the thought is mature and Japanese thought is infantile, because we would remove all danger rather than learning how to judge dangerousness.

My pattern of thought about danger is also to reduce, like other Japanese. 

We have been with the thoughts for a long time, so it is very difficult for us to change to the mature thoughts and if we try to change at once, we might make many mistakes or accidents.

Then how to do it?...in my opinion, we could start by thinking that we can have different ways or we should realize there are different thoughts.

この群の鹿は道路を渡らなかったので、
待っていた車は動き出しました。
鹿達はなにをどう判断するのでしょう？

This deer group did not go across the road,
so waiting cars started moving.
How do deer decide?

B.奈良公園 / Nara Park

多くの日本人は、私も含めて、鹿が居る公園というと、奈良公園を思い起こすのではないでしょうか？

奈良公園の鹿の角切りは、1671年に、すでに始まっているのですね。

鹿は神使とされているのに、奈良公園の鹿は角切りされてしまうのです。

安全性を重視する国民性を感じます。

リッチモンド パークの鹿は、奈良公園の鹿のように、角は切られて威厳を失うような状態にはなっていませんし、餌を求めて人のそばに寄ってくるようなこともありません。

奈良公園の鹿は、その由来には神秘性があるのに、その存在に神秘性に欠けているのは、大きな角がないのと餌を求める姿ではないでしょうか？


Nara Park

For many Japanese, including me, if we think about a park with deer, we will often think of Nara Park, won't we?

In Nara Park, the cutting of deer horns started in 1671.
 (For a while they stopped, then restarted in 1953)

In Japan, deer are considered messengers of gods, however, their horns are still cut.

I feel Japanese nationality, Safety First.

Deer in Richmond Park do not have their horns cut, loosing their dignity and they do not come to people for their food like the deer of Nara Park.

The origin of the deer in Nara Park's has mystique, however, nowadays they lack the mystique, because the deer cannot have large horns and they come, without pride to people expecting to be fed, don't they?

鹿の家族？
再び鹿を見ましたが、遠くにいました。
群というより家族のようです。

Deer Family
Again I saw deer, although they were far away.
They look like a family rather than a group.

まだ子供？/ Still a Child?
