1) 厳しいナショナルトラストのスタッフ

       Severe National Trust Staff 

Rの母Jを連れて、ナショナル トラストが管理運営する
リトル モートン ホール / Little Morton Hall 
に行きました。

Rも私も会員ですから無料、Jの分だけを支払うつもりでした。

私達はスコットランドでナショナ ルトラストの会員になりました。

'イングランド&ウェールズ'とスコットランドは別団体扱いですが、それぞれの会員は、どこのナショナルトラストでも、会員の特典を利用することができます。

けれども、Rがナショナルトラストの会員カードを忘れてしまい (彼が通常二人分持っています）、3人分を払わないと入れてもらうことができませんでした。

スタッフの前で、スコットランドの事務局へ電話をして私達の会員ナンバーを調べてもらい、提示しましたが、

「これはルールだ！」

と言って、このスタッフは信用してくれませんでした。

過去にも何度か同様のことがありましたが、私達がいくつか持っているほかの証明、例えば、駐車場会員許可証のステッカーや会員ナンバーなど提示すると入れてくれました。

私が想像するに、ここのスタッフは過去に騙された経験があって、人を信用できなくなっているのだと思いました。

ここは、1人分の入園料は9ポンドです。

私はJのために3人分払っても良いと思ったのですが、Rが断固として払わない意向を崩しませんでした。

それは金銭だけの問題でなく、スタッフに信用されないという気持ちがそうさせてしまったのだと思います。

スタッフの方も、一度拒否したので、ひくにひけなくなり、私達を拒み続けたのではないかと思います。

のちに違うナショナル トラストの場所も訪れましたが、このときの経験をRが話すと、口を揃えて、それはあまりに厳しかったですね、私達はそこまではしませんよと言われました。

会員カードを忘れる私達に非はありますが、通常の商売上の会員とは違うので、
もう少し融通をきかせても良いのではないかと思います。

Severe National Trust Staff 

We brought R's mother, J to Little Morton Hall which is managed by the National Trust.

R and I are members, so we thought we would just pay for J. 

We became members in Scotland.

Scotland and England & Wales of the National Trust are different, although their members can use the benefits as members in every area. 

However, R left our cards (usually he has our cards) and then we could not go in free. 

In front of the staff R called Scotland office, they told R our member numbers, and then he showed the numbers the staff, however, the staff said

'This is the rule!'

he did not believe us and did not let us enter.

We had some experience before, although we showed them different evidences, 
for example, car park permission sticker or the member numbers, and then they accepted us.

I guessed the staff had experience that somebody deceived him and he cannot believe people. 

The fee is 9 pounds here.

I thought it was OK we would pay the fees for J, although R adamantly did not change his opinion that he would not pay for the two of us.

I think why he would not pay because it was not only economy but also the staff did not believe him or us.

And also the staff started refuse us one time, so he could not move back so he has continued refusing us.

Later we visited other the National Trusts and R talked of this experience and every staff said that was so harsh, we do not do like that staff member.

We had the fault, although the National Trust is not normal business and I think the staff should be adaptable to the problem.

2) 災い転じて福となる  / Good comes out of evil

リトル モートン ホールを後にして、次に
'ガースワース オールド ホール /  Gawsworth Old Hall'
を目指しました。

'ガース ワース オールド ホール' はプライペートな経営で、リトル モートン ホール にあるチューダースタイルの木骨造 (モッコツゾウ） / ティンバーフレームの家と似た家があります。

リサーチを十分にしていなかったのと、途中の道で道路工事をしていたのとで、道に迷って行き着くことができませんでした。


けれども、偶然にマウ コップ城 / Mow Cop Castle 跡を見つけました。

We left Little Morton Hall and went to towards Gawsworth Old Hall.
Official Website :  ★

Gawsworth Old Hall is privately run and they have a tudor style timber framed house  which is similar to Little Morton Hall.

I did not research enough and the route had road works so we became lost and could not get there.

However, by chance we found Mow Cop Castle.




3) 日の出から日の入りまで / From Dawn to Dusk

A. 見晴台 / View Point

ジョドレル バンク天文台 
ジョドレル バンク天文台はかなり離れていますが、
カメラのズームでここまで見えました。

Jodrell Bank Observatory is far away from here,
although my camera's zoom shows me this.

B. 遺跡 / Ruin

マウ コップ城跡
ナショナル トラストが管理していますが、無料です。

Mow Cop Castle 
Here is managed by the National Trust, but is free.

私は遺跡が好きです。 / I like ruins.

岩の上に立つ建物が好き。
I like buildings on rocks.

景色が良い！ / The View is Lovely! 

もとは 、フォリー/ Folly と呼ばれる装飾用の建築物で、
1754年に建てられました。
技術もあまりない時代に、飾りでこの場所に、これを建ててしまうって、すごい。

Originally it was called a Folly and built in 1754.
When they did not have so much technology
they still built this here, just as decoration, it is amazing.

雲の穴 / Hole in Cloud

この遺跡のそばにあるから、遺跡風の庭を作ったのでしょうか？

Did they make a ruin style garden, because it is close to this ruin?

この周辺は、石臼の採掘場として有名なので、
こういう庭になったのかもしれませんし、
採掘した石のリサイクルなのかもしれません。

The surrounding was famous for millstone quarries,
so maybe they made this or the stones are recycled.

なんと、ツツジ 科なのです〜。

4) 運河 / Canal 

私を含めて、日本人は運河と聞くと、大きなものを想像しがちですが、
英国には小川のような運河がとても多くあります。
運河でのボートを利用した旅も盛んですし、ボートを住いにしている人もいます。

When Japanese, including me, hear of a canal, 

we are likely to imagine something big,
although in Britain, there are many small canals almost stream size.
It is popular that people have trips using canal boats and 

some people live in their boats.

5)マックルズフィールド / Macclesfield

マックルズフィールドは、チェシャー/ Cheshire 州のマーケットタウンです。

カフェ / Cafe

中途半端な時間だったので、案内所で勧めてもらったカフェ2軒が
ランチタイムを終えてました。
３軒めにしてようやくランチ！
Rは車の運転があるので、私だけビールを飲みました。
いつもありがとう！

It was halfway between lunch and dinner time, 
so two of the cafes which a member of staff of Information Centre recommended 
had finished serving lunch.
Finally we could get our lunch in a third cafe.
R drove, so only I could have beer, thank you as always.

ちょっとアートに力を入れているようなカフェでした。
The cafe seemed to be a little arty.

RとJはジャケットポテト
英国人はポテトが好きです。
ジャケット ポテト は具が選べます。
サンドイッチのパンがポテトになったような感じ。

R and J had Jacket Potatoes.
British like potatoes.
We can select ingredients to go in the potato, like a sandwich.

私はチキンサラダ / I had a Chicken Salad.
