1) チードル / Cheadle

チードル / Cheadleは、公的には村ですが、私の感覚からすると、街に近いです。

Cheadle is officially classed as a village, although from my sense is it is more of
a town.

Rの母Jの買い物に出かけました。
We went out shopping for R's mother, J.

カフェ / Cafe

ランチタイムは終了していますが、食事はできました。
They finished their lunch time, although we could still have meals.

ショッピングの後にマンチェスターに来たときに通った

ピークディストリクトに行く予定でした。

ピークディストリクトに行くと、食べるところを見つけにくいのではないか
と思い、この街でランチ。

いつものように、私はビール！

英国ではビールは、エールのこと、日本で意味するビールはラガーと呼びます。

After her shopping our plan was going to the Peak District which

we drove through on our way to Manchester.

We thought it was difficult finding a place for our lunch in the District,

then we had it here.

As usual, I had a beer!

In Britain, beer means Ale, what Japanese normally call a beer, they call lager.

あ〜、本当に彼らはポテトが好きなんですね〜。

Well, they really love potatoes.

I had BBQ Sandwich.

❶のセクション (下記) でも書きましたが、
ピークディストリクト / Peak District (★) は、
英国内ではもっとも観光客 (ビジター) が多い国立公園で、マンチェスターから近いのです。

Rが学生時代を過ごした街、シェーフィルド / Sheffield からも近いです。

マンチェスターもシェーフィールドも都会で、そこからアクセスしやすいというのも、ビジターが多い理由の１つだと思います。

ピークディストリクトは、マンチェスターとシェーフィールドの間にあるのです。

ピークディストリクトは英国で初めての国立公園です。
The Peak District National Park was the first National Park in Britain.

I already mentioned in ❶ : below, that the number of visitors to the Peak District is the biggest among the British National Parks and it is quite close to Manchester.

R spent time as a university student in Sheffield, the park is close to the city, too.

Manchester and Sheffield are both big cities so the park is easy to access from the cites which is one of the reasons for the high visitor numbers.

The Peak District National Park is between Manchester and Sheffield.

英国の景色の特色があり、安らぐ空気があり、

人気がある理由に納得が行きます。

Here are common features of British views and relaxed atmospheres,

and I am able to understand the popularity.

Blue John Cavern : ★
観光スポットの一つ、洞窟内を見学できます。
でも私達はいつものように遅くて間に合わず....(苦笑)。
私は興味がありますが、Rはないので、
まあ、もしかしたら故意的に遅れたのかもしれません？

This is one of the tourist spots, people can go in the cavern.
But as usual, we could not get there before they closed...(smile wryly)
I am interested in the cavern, although R is not.
Well maybe he deliberately made us late?

なんでもない草、でも綺麗
Nothing happen Grasses but Beautiful

アザミ
アザミはスコットランドの国花です。
実は日本には国花はないのですね〜、
でも桜か菊でしょう。

Thistle
Thistle is the floral emblem of Scotland.
Actually Japan does not have a floral emblem,
although I think of Cherry or Chrysanthemum.

これもアザミのひとつ / This is a type of Thistle

黄色い花が好き/ I like yellow flowers.

私は雑草が好きなのです。
I like weeds.

レディーバワーダムとレディーバワー貯水池

The Ladybower Dam and Ladybower Reservoir

この土手の向こう側にレディバワー貯水池: Ladybower Reservoir があります。
8月6日に池(湖だと思った）にはちょっと寄ったのですが、
そのときには、ダムがあるとは気がつきませんでした。

Beyond the bank is the Ladybower Reservoir.
When we stopped there two days ago, I did not notice there is a dam.
I thought there was a lake.

土手下 (ダム下)
川は、リヴァーダウエント / River Derwent 。
ダウエント / Derwent はケルト語で楢(ナラ)の木でいっぱいの谷の意味です。
('Oak / オーク'は樫の木と訳されがちですが、楢の木です)

Below the Bank or the Dam
The river is the River Derwent.
The name "Derwent" is Celtic and means "a valley thick with oaks"
