Dover Lighthouse : 'South Foreland Lighthouse'  

'South Foreland Lighthouse' / サウス フォーランド ライトハウス
この灯台の名前です。
世界で初めて電気による光を使用した灯台です。
そしてまた、ここは国外 (フランス) から無線によるメッセージを
受け取った初めての通信 (ラジオ) 施設があります。

'South Foreland Lighthouse' 
This lighthouse's name.
It was the first lighthouse in the world to use electric light. 
And also here is the first communication facility which 
received an international message by the radio. (It was from France) 

灯台の中にカフェ: 'Mrs Knott's Tea-Room'
いつものように、まずはカフェ

Cafe : 'Mrs Knott's Tea-Room' in the lighthouse 
First of all, Cafe as usual.

雲海の上にいるような錯覚をおこします。
I have the illusion that here is on a sea of clouds.

大砲の存在で我にかえる...
The cannon made me return to the real world...

ツアーに参加 / Join Tour 

ツアー
灯台の中を見るのには、
ナショナルトラストのツアーに参加しなければなりません。
このツアーはなかなか面白かったです。
どれくらい理解したかはさだかではありませんが、
灯台の上からの景色が眺められるだけでも価値があります。

Tour

If we want to look at the inside of this lighthouse,

 we should join a tour of National Trust.
I enjoyed the tour. I do not know how much I understood,

however, the tour did seem to be worth joining, 
even if I could only see views from the top of the lighthouse.

内陸部を灯台の上から
From the top of the lighthouse  looking in land.

こちらは海方面
This towards the sea.

修学旅行と思われる生徒たちが、
私達が歩いて来た道を歩いています。
この写真の場所は比較的崖から離れています。

They look like students on a school trip.
They are walking on the path which we walked before.
There is relatively distant from the cliff edge in this photograph. 

より白い部分は、昨年崩れた崖

Where the cliff is whiter than others,
 there  was a landslip last year.

灯台の上から
写真右：小屋に見えるのも灯台です。
灯台の中を見るのには、
ナショナルトラストのツアーに参加しなければなりません。
このツアーはなかなか面白かったです。

From the top of the lighthouse 
On the right : it looks like a shack, it is a lighthouse.
It was fun!

'South Foreland Lighthouse' / サウス フォーランド ライトハウス
と、あの小さな灯台がふたつそろって、
船をより安全に導くのです。

'South Foreland Lighthouse' and that lighthouse,
 keeping two in view can be more safe for ships.

危険地帯: Goodwin Sands
 Goodwin Sands / グッドウィンサンズ と呼ばれる
英国海峡にある砂州で、
今までに、多くの船が沈没しています。
上の地図には、周知の難破船の名前と場所が記されています。
すごい数でしょう？

Goodwin Sands : Danger Zone
It is a shoal in the English Channel in which many ships have sunk.
The map above shows names and locations of known wrecks. 
The number is huge!

この写真では大きさがわかりませんね。

大きさが上のものとだいぶ違います。
右にちょこっと上の (大きな) 電球が写っています。

The size is very different from another bulb above photograph.
On the right, the big one appears a little bit. 

灯台の窓 / The Lighthouse Windows

光のもと！
The Origin of the Light!

ツアーに参加している、ドイツからやって来た子供に
ガイドさんが灯台の光を手動でまわし方を教えています。
この子供達はお父さんとお母さんと一緒でした。

The guide tells and shows  the children how to turn the light by hand.
The children came from Germany with their parents. 

ツアーの後 / After Tour 

崖側から
From the cliffs side 

自分ががまんできるところまで、断崖に近づきます。
まあ、この程度で限界です。

I tried to go close to the cliffs edge as much as I could.
Well,  my limit is like this.

写真で縦にラインが走っていますが、わかりますか？
草が生えているところ....
R がそこは崖のヒビだと主張して、
このラインの外に居た私を真剣な声で呼びもどしました。
どうみても、今、何かおこるラインには思えませんが、
彼の気持ちを考えて戻りました。

Can you see a line in this photograph?
The line has some plants.
R  persisted that is a crack,  when I was beyond the line, 
he called me with his serious voice.
I did not think something could happen now by what I could see,
although I consider his feeling then came back or across the line.

 ドイツ人の家族はドーバー方面まで崖沿いを歩いてゆくようです。
私達は彼らと逆方面。来た道を戻ります。

The German family seems to go to Dover on foot along the cliff.
Our way was opposite to the family. 
We walked back along the same path as when we came here.

ドーバーでは、フェリーはよく見かけましたが、
ヨットは初めてです。

I often saw ferries around Dover,
although it was the first time it is a yacht.

Rは私が歩く道よりも奥を緊張感をもって歩きます。
ああ、もう二度とここには来れないな〜...

R walked  further in than me with his tense feeling.
Ah! We never come here again!
