薄いオレンジ部分 : シグトゥーナ自治体
シグトゥーナ / Sigtuna はストックホルムの北に位置する、小さな町(村)ですが、 その名前が、シグトゥーナ自治体と同じなのは、 スウェーデンで最古の町だからでしょう。
シグトゥーナ は、ヴァイキング時代 (Viking Age / 793 - 1066) から、
中世時代の1200年頃まで100年以上に渡って栄えました。
シグトゥーナのルーン石碑は、発掘された小さな破片も数え、
町だけで40をはるかに超える数が記録されています。
自治体全体を含めると、この数は170に増えます。
Pale Orange Part : Sigtuna Municipality
Sigtuna is a small town (village) in the north of Stockholm,
with the same name as Sigtuna municipality,
probably because it is the oldest town in Sweden.
Sigtuna had flourished for over 100 years,
from the Viking Age (793 - 1066) to the 1200s of the Middle Ages.
The more than 40 Sigtuna Runestones recorded includes
small fragments unearthed just from the town. The number rises to 170 when including the whole municipality.

"私たちのルーン文字の碑文はスウェーデン語で最も古く、
シグトゥーナほど多くを誇る町は他にありません。
ここでは、合計10個の完全な石と約20個の破片を見つけることができます。
ルーン石は、11世紀に親族を記念して建てられました。"

"Anundは彼の生涯で彼自身を記念して石を建てました。
Anuntrという名前は、バイキング時代には非常に一般的でした。
人が自分の思い出 (存在記念?) としてのルーン石碑を
建てることは珍しいことではありませんでした。
タビー (Täby) の有名な首長ヤラバンケ(Jarlabanke) は、
生前に自分を記念して少なくとも5つの石を建てました。
ルーン石は、1956年にサンラールの廃墟の北壁で発見され、
6つの破片に分かれていました。"
タビー (Täby) は、ストックホルムの北にある自治体、もしくは町です。 ヤラバンケ(Jarlabanke)は、11世紀に権力があった大地主です。 (おそらくタビー全体を所有していました）
"Anund had the stone erected in memory of himself in his lifetime.
The name Anuntr was very common during the Viking Period.
It was not unusual for a man to erect a rune stone in his own memory.
The famous chieftain Jarlabanke in Täby erected at least five stones
in memory of himself during his lifetime.
The rune stone was found in 1956 in the north wall of the ruin of Saint Lars,
broken into six fragments."
Täby is a municipality or a town north of Stockholm. Jarlabanke was a large landlord who had power in the 11th century.
(Probably owned the entire Täby )

"スヴェンは彼の父を記念し、フロディスは夫のウルブを記念し、
二人で、この石を作りました。
神は彼の魂を助けます。
スヴェンとウルブの名前は、ルーン文字の碑文でよく使われていますが、
フロディスは、バイキング時代に2回使用されただけです。
1つはシグトゥーナで、もう１つが
エリック・ザ・レッドの娘で、ヴィンランドに住んでいました。
この石の破片は、シグチューナの2つの異なる場所で見つかりました。
ルーン文字が重要な場所で破損しているため、
当時は刻まれていたスヴェンの父親の名前は、読めず、不明です。"
(Ulvの複数形がUlfr、Frödisの複数形が Fröydisと理解して訳しています。)
"Sven had the stone erected in memory of ...his father and
Frödis in memory of Ulv, her husband.
God help his soul.
The names Sven and Ulv are common in the runic
inscriptions but Froydis has only
one other know bearer from the Viking age
and that is the daughter of Erik the Red
who lived in Vinland for some time.
The fragments of this stone have been found
in two different places in Sigtuna.
As the runes are damaged in important places the name of the father,
in whose memory the stone was erected, is not readable any more."

"God help his soul."は、非常によくルーン石碑に用いられるようで、'ルーン石碑を追って'のシリーズでも複数回、訳しました。
私は、'神は彼の魂を助けます'と直訳することしかできませんが、キリスト教に詳しい方なら、和訳の違うフレーズ、もっと適した訳ができるかと思います。

聖ローランス教会遺跡
この遺跡 (Sankt Lars kyrkoruin) は、
12世紀頃に建てられた灰色の石の教会でした。
当時、この周辺で中心的な教会 (大聖堂?) であったと考えられています。
現在見られる遺跡部分は、16世紀後半に
によって改装された塔です。

It is considered, at that time to have been the main church (cathedral?) in this area.
The site of the ruins now seen is a tower that was renovated in the late 16th century by Johann III of Sweden (1537 - 1592 / reign : 1568 - 1592).

教会は1658年に火事で荒廃し、それによって廃墟となりました。
Nowadays, only the partially demolished church tower remains.今日では、破壊された教会の塔だけが残っています。 The church was ravaged by fire in 1658 and thus became a ruin. |
塔の遺跡しかなかったので、少々、がっかりしました。
ですが、不便なところにあるわけではないので、訪ねたことを後悔はしていません。
I was a little disappointed because there were only the ruins of the tower.
However, I don't regret visiting there because it is not inconvenient.

| '古代の家のような鳥の巣'、そう思いましたが、 寄生木 (ヤドリギ)でした。 I thought, "A bird's nest like an ancient house", however, it was mistletoe.  ここでは、塔よりもこの寄生木が印象に残りました。 This mistletoe was more impressive than the tower here. |

| 遺跡からお城のような家が見えました。 この周辺は高級住宅地なのでしょうか？ I saw a castle-like house from the ruins. Is this neighborhood a luxury residential area? 
時計丘 (Klockbacken) の上の鐘楼 (地図6) が見えます。
元々この丘に建っていた17世紀の古い鐘楼は火事で焼失しました。
現在の鐘塔 (Belfry) は、2018年に建てられたものです。
遺跡を見た後に、私と夫Rは、この丘に登っています。
The 17th-century old belfry originally built on the Hill was destroyed by fire.
The current Belfry was built in 2018.
After the Church ruin, I and my husband R were climbing that hill.

シグトゥーナ には、プレストガタン通り(Prästgatan)があり、教会の遺跡や
ルーン石碑があります。
ルーン石碑があります。
Prästgatanは、スウェーデン語で、司祭の通り / Priest's Street を意味します。
どちらも古い歴史があり、私にはどちらが古いのか、わかりません。

Prästgatan Street
The ruins of churches and Runestones are on Prästgatan street in Sigtuna.
Prästgatan in Swedish means Priest Street.
There is a street with the same name in Stockholm Old Town: Gamla stan, which may be more famous.
Both have old history and I don't know which one is older.

"12世紀頃、この道 (Prästgatan) に沿って5つの教会が並んで建っていました。
この看板の左には聖ニコラ教会、ロシア教会が建っていました。
さらに距離を置いて聖ピーター教会、王の教会 (王の邸宅教会) がありました。"
"聖ローランス教会"を含めて5つです。

5) 時計丘 / Clock Hill / Klockbacken

案内板や標識は見ませんでしたが、観光客らしいグループが
脇道 (地図の点線) から戻って来ていたので、
興味が湧き、私達も進んで見ることにしました。
脇道は登りになっています。
この時はわかりませんでしたが、この丘は、
時計丘 (Klockbacken) と呼ばれています。
思ってもみなかった、メーラレン湖を含む景色を見ることがで来ました。
シグトゥーナ に来て、初めて湖を見たのです。
We didn't see any guide boards or signs, but a tourist-like group was returning
from the side path (dotted line on the map),
so we were interested and decided to look there.
The side path climbs up.
I didn't know at this time, but this hill is called Clock Hill (Klockbacken).
I was surprised to see the scenery including Lake Mälaren.
After coming to Sigtuna, we saw the lake for the first time.
 
だんだん高くなると、岩肌が露出してきます。
花崗岩でしょうか？
As it gets higher, the rock surface is exposed.

| 年を経た、巨大な亀の背を歩いているような気持ちになりました。 I felt as if I was walking on the back of a huge aged turtle.   |

| アース・カラーの中に赤い実は、ちょっと嬉しい！ 北欧でアクセント・カラーに、赤が多いのは、 こういう気持ちからなのかもしれません。 Seeing the red fruit over the earth colour makes me a little happy! It may be because of this feeling that there are many red accent colours in Nordic countries. |

丘を降りてプレストガタン通りに戻りました。
Descend the Hill and return to Prästgatan Street. |
