アイルランド島

ダブリンを首都とする南西部大半のアイルランド共和国と、

ベルファストを首都とする北部の北アイルランド (イギリス) に分かれています。

Ireland

Most of the Island is the Republic of Ireland, capital Dublin

and the northern part is called Northern Ireland (part of the UK), capital Belfast.

2006年、私がまだ英国留学で、その夏休みに、Rと彼の友人Sと私の3人でアイルランド旅行をしました。

英国人のR、インド人のS、日本人の私の3人旅で、ちょっと変わったグループだったと思います。

そのとき、北アイルランド (グレートブリテンおよび北アイルランド連合王国 : イギリス)を含む、アイルランド島の3分の2をほぼ回りました。

そのとき、回り残したゴールウェイ州 / Galway に、Rと私の二人で、今回は行きます。

前回の旅は、かなりの強行スケジュールで、運転をするRの疲労が最後まで続いたので、今回は比較的ゆったりめに計画をしました。

アイルランド島へ行く方法は、空と海と両方あります。

私達は車の旅なので、フェリーに乗ります。

前回は、ウェールズ西南部の 'ペンブローク港 / Pembroke Port' と

アイルランド東南部の 'ロスレア・ハーバー / Rosslare Harbour '間の

アイリッシュ・フェリーを使用し、今回はウェールズの

'アングルシー島 / Anglesey' の 'ホーリーヘッド港 / Port of Holyhead' と

'ダブリン港 / Dublin Port' を結ぶアイリッシュ・フェリーを利用しました。

フェリー渡航前日は、チェスター / Chester に泊まりました。

ここを選んだのは、ホーリーヘッド港に近いこと、城郭都市で観光地でもあるからでした。

ですが、私達はウィンブルドン / Wimbledon の自宅からチェスターのB&Bにだどりつくのが精一杯で、観光は一切できず、城郭都市であることは全く感じることなく、翌日、ホーリーヘッド港へ向かいました。

ソーダブレッド (★)が出てきたので、アイルランドが近くなったのを感じました。

ソーダブレッドは、アイルランドの伝統的なパンです。

R and I shred them.

Soda bread (★) came, so I felt Ireland was close.
Soda bread is a traditional Irish bread.

In 2006 I had an Ireland trip with R, his friend S during the summer vacation while

I was still studying in Britain.

I think that it was a little unusual group as a British R, an Indian S, and I am a Japanese.

At that time, we made tour almost two thirds of Ireland, including Northern Ireland (United Kingdom of Great Britain and NorthernIreland).

I and R would go to Galway in this trip which we could not make in 2005.

The previous trip was a busy schedule so R's tiredness continued to the end, this time was a relatively relaxing plan.

Travel to Ireland can be sky or sea.

We would take a ferry, because our trip was by car.

Last time we used Irish ferry between Pembroke Port and Rosslare Harbour and this time Irish Ferries connecting Dublin Port and Holyhead Port on Anglesey in Wales.

Before make the voyage to Ireland, we stayed the night in Chester.

From Chester it is easy getting to Holyhead Port, it is also popular as a tourist destination being a 'Walled City'.

However, we only travelled from our home in Wimbledon, we could not do any sightseeing, I never felt that it was a 'Walled City', and the next day we went to Holyhead Port.

チェスターのB&B / B&B in Chester

私達が泊まった晩の数日後に
オーナーさんは引っ越し予定で、
このB&Bは、寄宿学校の寮になると、到着後に聞きました。
あちらこちらにダンボールが積まれていた理由がわかりました。

After we arrived we heard that in a couple days the owner would move out
and afterwards here will become a boarding school's dormitory.
Indeed, there were carton boxes lying everywhere.
