2017年2月11日 雹か霰か / Hail, 11th of February 2017

雹 ！
雹 (ヒョウ) が降りました。
Wikiでは、
 "雹(ヒョウ)とは、積乱雲から降る直径5mm以上の氷の粒のこと。
直径5mm未満のものは霰(アラレ)と呼ばれ区別される。"

とあるので、霰かもとも思います。

雹はなんとなく、雷を伴う感じがあるので、
これはやっぱり霰かな？

ややこしい事に、凍雨 (トウウ）というのもあり、
これは雪が一度溶けてまた凍結したものを言うそうです。

According to Japanese Wiki, below (I translate myself)

"Hail is a drop of ice more than 5mm in diameter to fall from cumulonimbus.

Hail is distinguished from Graupel which less than 5mm in diameter."

They say like that, so this might be Graupel.

Somehow I feel Hail with thunder, after all this might be 

Graupel.

It is confusing that there are Ice pellets which 

begin as snow and melts and freeze again. 

これは直径5mm以上ですか？
Are their diameters over 5mm?

ミニ葉牡丹の中にも霰があります。

お隣の庭はこんな感じです。
My neighbours's garden is like that.

家からの景色
伊豆大島が雪で覆われているように見えます。(カメラを通して)
こんな風に見えるのは稀です。
ちょっと蜃気楼を見ているような気になります。

Izu Ōshima Island seems to be covered with snow.(Through my camera)
This kind of view is rare.
I feel as though I am seeing a mirage.
