1) ヘルシンキ中央駅 / Helsinki Central Railway Station

ヘルシンキ中央駅 (正面)
フィンランド産の花崗岩で殆どの部分が覆われています。
1860年に開業され、現在の建物の竣工は1919年。
設計はエリエル・サーリネン (1873 -1950)。
左右に2体づつある像がランプをそれぞれ持っています。
スフィンクスを思い起こすのは私だけでしょうか？

Helsinki Central Railway Station (Front)
The station is mostly clad in Finnish granite.
It opened in 1860, the present building was completed in 1919 
and was designed by Eliel Saarinen (1873 -1950).
The two pairs of statues each hold the lamps.
Do they remind only me of Sphinxes?



時計台は、高さ、48.5m。
The clock tower is 48.5m high.

西側  

私達は、この撮影の前日に、ヘルシンキ・ヴァンター空港から電車で

ヘルシンキ中央駅に着きました。

西側に出ましたが、このりっぱな入り口からでなく、

プラットホームからそのまま一般道へ出ました。

電車からも、ヘルシンキ市内でもピンクがかった花崗岩が自然の形に近いまま

日常の場に溶け込んだ風景を多々見ました。

West Side

We came to Helsinki Central Railway Station on a train

from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport the day before.

We went out from the west side, although it was not this gorgeous entrance,

our platform led straight onto a public road.

From the train, as we went towards our accommodation,
a lot of the scenery had granite tinged with pink, 
in natural forms, blended into part of everyday life.

たくさんのベリーを売っています。

ヘルシンキはマーケットが有名なので、
それらしい雰囲気を作っているように思います。

Street-level Stores
They sell many kind of berries.
Markets are popular here, so I think even the shops make atmosphere as markets.

2) 西側方面 / Western Side 

フィンランド・ホール、現代美術館キアズマ、国立博物館、その他多くの文化施設が西側にあります。

訪れた文化施設の写真は、後のそれぞれのセクションに載せます。

また私達の宿泊所も西側でしたので、自ずと街の風景写真も西側が多くなりました。

The Finland Hall, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, National Museum Finland and many other cultural facilities are on the western side.

I will show you photographs of our visiting of some cultural facilities in each section later.

And also our accommodation was this side too, so automatically I took more photographs of this side of town.

カール・グスタフ・エミール・マンネルヘイム / Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim (1867 -1951) は、ロシアからフィンランドが独立する道を先導しました。

フィンランド6代目大統領。

遠い昔に『フィンランドの知恵 - 中立国家の歩みと現実』

[マックス・ヤコブソン / Max Jakobson (1923 -2013) 作、

北詰 洋一 (キタズメヨウイチ/1932 ~ ) 訳、サイマル出版 / 1990)]

を読んだことを思い出しました。

この本を読んだのは、大阪府立国際児童文学館 (2009年に終了) がまだ運営されている時で、そこにムーミンゼミがあり、それに参加していた際に、フィンランドに興味を抱いたからでした。

本の詳細は覚えていませんが、

'大切なことのために、しなやかに生きる' 

と本から学んだことを今でも覚えています。

 Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim (1867 -1951) lead the approach to independence from Russia.

He was the 6th President of Finland.

I remembered that I read a book, "Finland - myth and reality"

[Max Jakobson (1923 -2013) /  Otava Pub. Co.,/ 1987] a long long time ago.

I read the book because I became interested in Finland when 'International Institute for Children's Literature, Osaka Prefecture'(closed 2009) was still running, there was 'Moomin Seminar' and I joined it. 

I do not remember the detail about the book, although I still remember now that I learned

'You (or we, or I) should live flexiblly for important things.'

トラムのケーブルがあちらこちらにあります。
The cables for trams are over here and there.

パブ・トラム (居酒屋トラム) : Spårakoff
これは市内を40~50分間走る、夏季限定 (5月中旬〜8月下旬) のパブ・トラム。

私達は乗りませんでしたが、この発想、素敵！

Pub Tram  : Spårakoff
The Pub Tram (Spårakoff) runs in the city, 40~ 50 minutes 

just in the summer season (the middle of May to the end of August).
We did not get on the tram, although I think this idea is lovely.

"KOFF" はシネブリチョフ醸造所(Sinebrychoff Brewery)

で作られてるビールのブランド名です。

1994年がシネブリチョフ醸造所の175周年で、

その直後の1995年からパブ・トラムは運営されはじめました。

現在、乗車代9ユーロで、飲み代は別、

パブ・トラムは世界で一つ、ヘルシンキだけのものです。

"KOFF" is the brand name used by Sinebrychoff Brewery.

Just after the 175th anniversary of the Brewery in 1994,

the Pub Tram started operating.

Today, the ticket is 9 Euro and drinks are extra,

the tram is the only one in the world, just in Helsinki!

3) 東側 / East Side

絵本の世界の建物のようです...

Finnish National Theatre

This looks like a building in an imaginary picture-book world...

フィンランド国立劇場を撮影中に鉄道広場 (Railway Square)で
ビール・フェスティバルが開催されいていることに気がつきました。
心惹かれましたが他の予定があり、断念。
その催しは "Big Beers - Small Breweries"といって、

地ビールの小さな醸造所に焦点をあてたものであったと後に知りました。

While I photographed for 'Finnish National Theatre',
I realized there was a Beer Festival in the Railway Square.
It tempted me, however, we still had other plans, so gave up.

Later I found out the festival was called "Big Beers - Small Breweries 2017",
the Beer festival focusing on local beers produced in small breweries.

4) 南側 / South Side

ミコン通り
大道芸にさえ北欧のデザインを感じます。
この方達の音楽を聞くことができなかったのは残念です。

Mikokatu Street
I felt Scandinavia design, even for a street performance. 
I could not listen to their music, that's too bad.

ミコン通りのマリメッコ
フィンランドのデザインを思う時、'マリメッコ' の存在は、はずせませんよね。
ヘルシンキには、数多くのマリメッコ店がありますが、
ミコン通りのお店が一番それらしい外見に思えました。
そう、本店よりも！

ですが、本店は店員さんの態度が最も素晴らしいと聞いています。
本店のお店で見て回りましたが、何も買わなかったので店員さんについては
わかりませんでした。
本場で、マリメッコの何かを買いたいと思っていましたが、
結局スーパーでペーパー・ナプキンを買っただけでした(笑)。

'marimekko' of Mikokatu Street

In thinking of design in Finland we cannot ignore 'marimekko', can  we?
There are many 'marimekko' shops in Helsinki, 

although I felt this shop's appearance was the most 'marimekko'.

Oh! Yes! It looks more 'marimekko' than the main shop.

However, I heard that the service from the shop assistants 
in the main shop is the best.

I visited the main shop and looked around, although I did not buy anything, 

so I do not know about the assistants.

I would buy something of 'marimekko' in their home town,

although in the end I just bought  'marimekko' paper napkins 
in a supermarket (laugh).
