私は全く知りませんでしたが、この棚田はとても有名なのですね。
日本の棚田百選、国指定文化財名勝に指定され世界農業遺産にもなっています。
ひとつの田が小さく手作業でしか稲作が行われません(機械が入らない)。

I did not know about here, however, it is very popular, isn't it?

Here was designated as one of Japanese 100 Rice Terraces, National important cultural view properties and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Each paddy is very tiny, so it can only grow rice by hand.

国道249号線沿い

日本海ぎりぎりに棚田があるこの風景は他ではあまり見られないのでしょう。

少なくとも、私はここでしか見たことがありません。

The terraces go down to the sea,

 I think this is unique. At least I have never seen this.

日本海の風は強そう....
潮風にも負けず、お米が育つことにびっくりましす。

The wind from the "Sea of Japan" looks very strong....
I was surprised by here, the rice can grow against salt winds.

地滑り防止のために棚田が作られたのが始まりと言われています。
高低差は56m(19階ビルに相当）、総面積は28,036㎡、田は1004枚です。

They say it was started to protect against landslip.
The maximum elevation is 56m, which is about the19th floor of a tall building.
The gross area is 28,036㎡ and there are 1004 paddies.

They charge in the daytime and automatically use the electricity at night.

There are 20461 of them and it is in the Guinness Book of Records, 2012.
