須須神社 / Suzu Shrine

創建は紀元前！
 須須神社 (スズジンジャ)  ★は、珠洲市北東部にあります。
社伝では崇神天皇の治世（紀元前97年 - 紀元前29年）に創建、

天平勝宝年間（749年 - 756年）現地に移転したとされています。


Established Before Christ!
Suzu Shtine is north-east of Suzu city.
They say the shrine was established in Emperor Sujin period (B.C. 97-29),
it was moved to here around A.D. 749-756.

祭神は、

1)天津日高彦穂瓊瓊杵尊 (アメノシギシクニシシアマツヒコヒコホノニニギ) / 
   邇邇芸命（ニニギノミコト） / ニニギ : 天照大神の孫。

2)美穂須須美命（ミホススミノミコト）: 大国主神の子。

3)木花咲耶姫命（コノハナノサクヤビメ）:ニニギノミコトの妻、海幸彦・山幸彦の母。
他3柱。

The Shrine is dedicated to 2 Gods: Ninigi-no-Mikoto, Mihosusu-no-Mikoto and 
1 Goddess : Konohananosakuya-bime and 3 other Gods.

鎮守の杜は天然記念物
ここの参道がとても雰囲気があり、良かったのです。

実は私はお参りをしていませんが、参道はかなり楽しめました。

あとで知りましたが、ここの鎮守の杜(社叢)★ ★は、

国指定の天然記念物（1975指定）★になっていました。

The Forest is Natural Monument, 1976.
Here, the approach has a good atmosphere, I like it.
Actually I did not pray at the shrine, but I really enjoyed walking on the approach.

山の気、森の気が残されていて、屋久島の白谷雲水峡を思い出しました。
白谷雲水峡は『もののけ姫』(1997)のモデルになった地です。

I felt there are mountain spirits or forest spirits which reminded me of Shirataniunsui Forest of Yakushima which is an Island to the south of Japan, with World Heritage Designation and the forest was a location for Hayao Miyazaki(1941 -)'s film
 "Princess Mononoke"(1997).

狛犬 / A Pair of Guardian Dogs

母と仔?
こども？が一緒なのは、珍しいと感じました。
こちらは母親でしょうか？

Mother and Child?
I feel it is unusual that the dog looks as though it is with a child.
Is this a mother dog? 

こちらは父親？
狛犬に雄雌を意識したのは始めてです。
そしてまた、ファミリーであると意識すると
温かみが感じられます。

Is this a father dog?
It was first time I notice the guardian dog's gender.
And also once I recognize they are a family, I feel warm.

白鳥 / Swans

バスの窓から
須須神社をあとにして、道路を走っていたら、白い何かが！
バスガイドさんが白鳥！(★)と教えてくれました。

From the Coach
After the shrine, our coach drove along a road,
I saw something white!
The coach guide said they are swans!

地元の方々が餌つけをしているのだそうです。
能登の方々の観光への努力が感じられます。

I heard the locals feed them.
I feel Noto people's efforts for tourism. 

畑と白鳥の組み合わせがしっくりこない私です。
白鳥を見る時は英国で、テムズ川やお城の堀だからなのかも？
ここの白鳥はシベリアからくる渡り鳥、
テムズの白鳥とは強さが違うように思います。

I still do not associate swans with rice paddies,
I wonder if because when I have seen swans,
it was in Britain, on the River Thames or in castle's moats.
Here, the swans are migratory birds, 
I think their strength is different from Thames' ones.
