1) 立派な門 / Magnificent Gate
建長寺の門前は何度となく通り、その名は鎌倉に住む前から知っていました。
そして今までお寺を訪ねる理由が庭であったり、花であったりしていたので、
建長寺はその領域には入っていなかったのでした。

ちなみに、ここでは2003年に、サザンオールスターズのファンクラブ(約2500名)
限定スペシャルコンサートも行われたそうです。
Magnificent Gate
I had passed a few times in front of the main gate of Kenchou-ji and I knew the name before living in Kamakura.
Notwithstanding, I did not visit here, because the temple ranks first among the "Kamakura-Gozan" (Five Great Zen Temples), the gate is too magnificent for me and their car-park is large, it must be larger than Daibutsu's, so these made me feel awkward.
Moreover, my reasons for visiting temples are for gardens and so on, so the temple did not attract me.
Kenchou-ji is the oldest Zen temple in Japan, at that time there were over one thousand Zen monks.
Most of buildings are National Treasures or Important Cultural Properties.

By the way, in 2003 here had a special concert by "Southern All Stars" : Japanese pop rock band, and the audience was limited to 2,500 of their fan club members.

2)目標は'勝上献(嶽)展望台 (ショウジョウケン テンボウダイ)
Our purpose : Highest View Point; 'Shoujouken Tenbodai'
今回ここに来たのも、建長寺奥の
"勝上献(嶽)展望台 (ショウジョウケンテンボウダイ) "
からの眺めが素晴らしいとガイドブックで知ったからです。
その他にも日本庭園や龍の天井画があるとこの日に知ったのですが、例のごとく、私達が到着したのが遅かったので、これらを見る時間がありませんでした。
下に建物の写真と短い説明を載せていますが、この他にも鎌倉最大級の木造建築の法堂 (ハットウ) などなども盛りだくさんの建長寺です。
Our purpose : Highest View Point; 'Shoujouken Tenbodai'
This time, we came here for a view from the highest point of the temple.
I had found that the view is beautiful from a guidebook.
We knew on the day that there are a few other things to see, for instance,
a Japanese garden (Zen garden), a dragon celling picture.
As usual we arrived there late, so we did not have time for these others.
I put some photographs of buildings with short explanations, although there are a few others in the temple, for instance, Hatsutou : the temple lecture hall which is the largest wooden building in Kamakura.

The building's layout is in a Chinese style. My feeling might not only be because of the actual size but also by the layout....? | 仏殿 このお寺は、鎌倉幕府５代目執権、北条時頼 (1227-1263) が中国から 禅僧蘭渓道隆(ゼンソウ ランケイドウリュウ; 初代住職)を招いて建立しました。 昔、この地は '地獄谷' と呼ばれた処刑場で、地蔵堂がありました。 禅寺では通常、本尊は釈迦如来だそうですが、ここでは地蔵菩薩なのです。 Bustuden : Buddhist Temple The fifth regent of the Kamakura shogunate, Hojo Tokiyori (1227-1263) invited a Chinese Zen master Rankei Douryu, to become the first chief priest. 4) '勝上献(嶽)展望台 (ショウジョウケン テンボウダイ)
半僧坊からもう少しあがったところに、勝上献展望台があります。
Shoujouken Tenbodai, here is a little higher than Hanzo-bo.
私達はもちろん、ハイキングコースには入らず、来た道を戻ります。

The whole trail takes about 60-90 minutes to complete, and hikers can find several tomb caves (yagura) along their way. The trail can also be accessed through the Shishimai Valley, which is a popular spot for autumn colors in early December.] |
私達はもちろん、ハイキングコースには入らず、来た道を戻ります。
Of course, we did not go along the hiking trail, but returned the way we came.
