この日は北ヨークシャーのデール(谷)をたくさん通り、湖水地方の
ケンダルへ移動しました。
Today, we moved from Reeth to Kendal in the Lake District, while we went through many of the dales of North Yorkshire.

1)アーケンガースデール / Arkengarthedale
アーケンガースデールという言葉からは『指輪物語』(J•R•Rトールキン) に出てきそうな響きがします。
デールというよりも、ムアー(荒地)で、歩いたらきっともっと楽しめるような気がしました。
けれども車でも独特の雰囲気、冒険する喜びが感じられ、十分楽しめて素敵でした。

For me, here was moor rather than dale.
I thought if I walked in the dale, I could enjoy it more than by car.
However, I enjoyed the feeling of adventure, so it was still wonderful.

| タゲリ
アーケンガースデールとストーンズデールの
間にあるタンヒルイン(Tan Hill Inn) は
ちょっとした観光スポットです。
イングランドで一番標高が高いところにある
パブ (インはパブで宿泊施設がある所) なので、
ちょっぴり有名なのです。
そこを通り過ぎ、より静かな道に進みました。
そして私達はタゲリに会いました。
その鳥に会ったのは生まれて初めてで、
そのときは、タゲリの名前さえも知りませんでした。
私が最初に親鳥を見つけました。
頭の冠バネが印象的な鳥でした。
Tan Hill Inn is between Arkengarthedale and Stonedale,
it is not bad as a tourist site.
There is a little popular in Britain,
because it was broadcast that it is the highest pub in England.
From there we went onto a quiet road.
We saw Northern Lapwing, it was the first time for us.
I did not even know the name.
Firstly, I saw the mother bird .
My first impression was that
her (his?) head has a long plume like a tail.

| タゲリの親鳥
左の野原から飛び出て道路に飛び降り、
車でゆっくり進んでいってもなかなか逃げません。
おかしいな〜？
The mother bird flew from our left,
and she landed on the road to our right.
We were moving very slowly,
although the mother (or father?) bird did not escape.
I wondered why she did not fly away.

不思議に思っていましたら草のそばに、
ここは永遠に平和であると信じているような雛がいました。
私達の気をひいて囮になっているのだと気ずきました。 私達が車で彼女の限界まで近づいてゆくと、 きれいに輪を描いてすばやく飛んでゆきました。
それでも遠くまで行かず、少し離れたところにとまり、
高い声を出して鳴いています。 私はもう少し様子を見ていたいと思いましたが、
彼女が気の毒で静かに去りました。

| I realized her chick was on the right side of the road. I found her chick beside the wild grass. The chick looked as if it believed here is safe forever. I thought the mother was making a victim of herself, as a decoy, until the chicks escaped into the wild grass. Finally she flew, after reaching her limit.
The flight was a quite beautiful fast spiral.
However, she did not go far, she landed and made shrill calls.
I wanted to watch them more,
although I felt very sorry for her, so we left there quietly.

| 納屋 風景の中に、ぽこぽこと、箱のように見える建物は納屋で、 バーン(Barn)と呼ばれます。本来、作物や飼料を入れます。 けれどもヨークシャーデールでは 多くの納屋が廃墟になっていると聞きました。 それは使用されなくなった納屋を家に改築したりすると 税金が高くなるように設定され、 納屋が放置されるからだそうです。 でも、ニーデルデール(Nidderdale)では 違う取り扱いだと聞きました。 私は、ナショナルパーク内は、風光明媚を保つために、 そのような税金設定になっているのだと思います。 ニーデルデールはヨークシャーデールの一部ですが、 ナショナルパークには入っていず、 何が違うのかな〜と私は思っていましたが、 こんな所に違いが見えました。 今回の旅行にはニーデルデールは入っていないので 違いを自分の目で確かめることはできません。  Barn : バーン In the views you can see dotted structures which look like boxes, they are barns. Originally they were used to keep crops or feed. Although I heard that many barns become ruins in the Yorkshire Dales, because when farmers do not use their barns, they do not knock down or reconstruct, because the tax is very high for them. However, Nidderdale is different tax. I thought in a National park, they would keep the present beautiful views, so the tax is like that. Nidderdale is not designated the National park, even though the area is in the Yorkshire Dales, so I wonder what is different before I visited. Now I can see one of the differences between inside and outside the National Park. This trip does not include Nidderdale, so I could not see other differences by myself. |

| 私は納屋でも廃墟になった納屋でさえも、 ヨークシャーデールの風景に趣を加えていると思います。 地形、ライムストーン、緑、石垣、石でできた家や納屋、廃墟、 そして馬、羊、牛、鳥などを含めたすべてのものが ここの風景を素敵なもの、特別なものにしていると思います。 自然の美しさ、面白さに人の気配を感じさせる造形物、 生き物の暖かみ、 それがヨークシャーデールの素晴らしさだと思いました。  |
The wonderful characteristic of the Yorkshire Dales

| I think barns or even their ruins add charm to the Yorkshire Dales. The landscape, limestone, greens, stone walls, stone houses, barns, ruins and horses, sheep, cows, birds, all of them make beautiful, special views in the dales. I think there is a lovely balance between nature, the signs of farmers and the warmth of the animals,this is the wonderful characteristic of the Yorkshire Dales. |

黒と白の毛皮?をまとっているのは牛！
私の写真ではわからないかもしれませんが牛です。
They are clad in black and white fur? They are cows!

バルティッドゥ ギャロウエイ / Belted Gallowaysという名前で、
ベルティーズ / Belties、
パンダカウ / Panda Cow,
オレオ カウ Oreo Cow (オレオクッキーのようなので)
と呼ばれるそうです。

品種交配によって様々な色、色の組み合わせができて、この牛達も

またこの種類で、体は白で耳、鼻、足先が黒のホワイト ギャロウエイ キャトル / White Galloways Cattleが見られる下記のWEB(英語) では、羊のような子牛も見られます。
Their name is Belted Galloways, sometimes known as 'Belties', 'Panda Cow' or 'Oreo Cow' (comes from an American biscuit ; Oreo).
Galloways originated in Scotland, do not have horns, and were only black.
After some crossbreeding, some different colours and patterns were added.
For me 'Panda Cow' is unusual, although they have become relatively popular in some of the explanations.
They have two layers of hair, so they can stand cold and rain.
They could live in hard climates.

And also you can see 'White Galloway Cattle', only their ears, nose and feet are black, in below website.
The web has their calf as if it were sheep.
