❶ 旅行/ Trip- London→Worksop : Browns(B&B)-1st July

私は6月10日に渡英して、7月1日から17日まで英国内旅行を
Rとしました。

その英国内旅行を❶〜❿に分けて写真とともにこのブログに記録します。

今回の旅は文学作品のロケーション地、または作家が影響を受けた
場所を主に廻りました。

作家は

エミリーブロンテ(Haworth)、

ウィリアムメイン(Yorkshire Dales)、

チャールズキングスレイ(Yorkshire Dales)、

アーサーランサム(The Lake District)、

トールキン(Warwick)

です。

I came to Britain on the 10th of June, then I had our trip in Britain with my boyfriend : R, from 1st to 17th July. 

I would report the trip with photographs in this blog ; ❶〜❿.

In this trip, we mainly visited locations of British literature or places which influenced some authors.

A : グランパ / Grandpa

移動はボーイフレンドのRの車です。

通常、彼の車はゴミ箱のような状態ですが、旅行にむけてRがとっても珍しく、車の外も中もきれいにしてくれました。

ようやく荷物を積めるスペースもできました。

ですが、あまりに古く、何度か外出中に故障をしているので機能上、
不安を感じていました。

でもRが気にいっているので仕方ありません。

私はグランパ(おじいちゃん)と呼んで頼りにしています。

一応、この旅行中はぶじに走りきってくれました。

ありがとう、グランパ！



Grandpa

We went in my boyfriend's car. 

Usually the car is like a rubbish bin, although R cleaned outside and inside of the car, it was once in a blue moon. 

Then we could get a space for our bags. 

The car is very old, so sometimes we had problems when we were out. 

So I worried about it for the trip, although R really likes the car, 
I cannot help it.

I call the car 'Grandpa' and must depend on him.

 Actually he made the trip. 

Thank you for your work, Grandpa!

ロンドンからヨークシャーデールにむかうまでに１泊する場所としてワークソップを選びました。

ここは評判が良いB&B (ブレックファースト&ベッド / 朝食とベッド)、ブラウンズ / Browns に泊まるために選びました。

このB&Bは三つの部屋のみで、車がないと大変不便な立地にあります。

以前日本のカップルが車がなくやってきて４泊したときは、B&Bの方はびっくりしたそうです。

けれどもそのカップルは英国の静かな土地を、徒歩や公の交通機関を使用して、彼らなりのオリジナルな旅を楽しんだのではないかと
私は思います。

因にここは２人で一泊朝食付き(No.3ルーム)で£79です(2010年７月)。


Browns 

I chose Worksop where we stayed for one night on our way from London to Malham in the Yorkshire Dales. 

There is a good B&B, Browns, with three rooms. 

It was a good position for us in this trip, although it is not a convenient position without a car. 

We heard from the landlady about a Japanese couple who came there without a car and stayed four nights. 

She said she did not know how they managed for their trip without a car, although I think they walked and used public transport, then they enjoyed quiet British countryside and had a trip of great individuality.

By the way, our room was £79 for two people, July 2010.

ブラウンズの家と庭。

撮影したのは午後７時頃ですが、まだこんなに明るい！

I took these around 7pm, although it was so bright outside like this.

私達は到着後、庭も近所も散策しました。

私達が泊まった部屋は、"ガーデンルームNo.3"です。
基本の紅茶、ビスケット、ケトルなどの他に
ミネラルウォーターやワイングラスなどが用意されています。
お風呂も快適でした。

We stayed in this room : No.3. 
There are basic B&B things like teabags, biscuits, kettle, cups 
and so on, plus a bottle of mineral water, wine glasses and opener. 
The bath was comfortable for me.

もとは農家の鶏小屋を改築し、カーテンなどのファブリックも
手作りし、こんなにきれいな部屋になっています。
因にとなりの部屋は豚小屋を改築したそうです。

There had been a henhouse.
They converted it themselves as well as 
making most of the soft furnishings.
It became a beautiful room like this.

このB&Bはたくさんの賞をとっています(下記の印)。

これらをWEBやガイドブック、またはB&Bの建物に見つけたら
宿の選択として良い目安になります。

けれどもそれぞれの人の好みもありますし、年度にもよりますし、
人種差別をされるかもしれませんし、他にも様々な理由で期待を裏切る事もあります。

When you find the above symbols in a website, guide book or B&B's Buildings, it could mean a good standard for your stay. 

However, sometimes things are different from your thoughts or your criteria when you stay there, maybe for example it is outdated, the owner has changed, they might have racial discrimination, and so on.

C : 朝食/ Breakfast

朝食は前日にメニューの中から選び、注文しておきます。

できれば当日の朝に何を食べるかは決めたいものですが、
経験上、この予約形式をとるB&Bの朝食は美味しいことが多いのです。

We must decide our breakfast from the menu for tomorrow morning.

If we can choose our breakfast in the morning, it would be fine, although in my experiences, 
if a B&B uses the booking way, often the breakfast could be quite good.

オートミール(ポリッジ)
Rが選んだ朝食のひとつオートミール(ポリッジ)。

シンプルな一品ですが、
どこのB&Bもそれぞれ違うのが面白いですね。

ここのポリッジは自分で蜂蜜などを加えて味付けをします。

私も味見をしましたが美味しいポリッジでしたし、
フルーツも添えてありきれいです。

お皿の縁の粉は砂糖です。

Porridge

Part of R's selection was porridge. 

It is a simple meal, although it is interesting that 
it is different in every B&B. 

R added honey which the landlady offered. I tasted it, 
it was quite good. 

It was with fresh fruits and sprinkled with caster sugar.

It was beautiful.. 

これからの日々、朝食はイングリッシュブレックファースト(ベーコン、卵、トマト、マッシュルームなど)ばかりになると思い、旅の最初の朝食に私はスモークサーモンとマフィンを選びました(下の写真)。

けれどもこのB&Bのイングリッシュブレックファーストは特別素晴らしいものであることを知ったので、もしも次回訪れることがあれば、そちらを選びたいと思います。

実際リサーチしたのが２ヶ月前で、そのときは覚えていたものの、すっかり忘れてしまっていたのです。

This is a wonderful breakfast for me.

I thought I would have English breakfast in B&B every day from then onwards, so I had chosen Smoked Salmon, above photograph, although this B&B's English breakfast looked very good, so if we visit there again, I (or we?) would have it. 

Actually I knew it when I research the B&B, although I forgot about it completely, because it was two months ago in Japan.

Rも同じ考えで違う朝食を選びましたが、

私はそちらはお勧めできないと思いました。 

でも、彼は満足したようです。

(Rは英国人ですからね。笑）

R had a similar thought to me, then he chose a different fish meal which I would not recommend, though he really enjoyed it.

黒キジ / A black pheasant
ダイニングの窓から庭に訪れている黒いキジが見えました。
黒いキジを見たのは初めでした！

コマドリ 
庭には他の鳥もいて、英国の庭ではよく見かけるコマドリ(Robin)もいました。因にキジは日本の国鳥で、コマドリは英国の国鳥です。

D : B&Bの車 / B&B's Cars

B&Bの方は車が好きでミニカーのコレクターです（下の写真）。

とくにアメリカ車が好きで、２台の車のうち１台はアメリカの車で、B&Bの家の前に展示物のように置かれています。

その車のナンバープレートにはUSAの文字が組み込まれています。

彼らの英国の田舎にはいるものの、自分たちはちょっと違うんだぞ！
という意思が私には感じられました。

部屋には自分たちの経歴やB&Bの成り立ちが説明されているファイルもあり、彼らの自負が感じられ、好ましくも思いました。

B&B's Cars

They like cars as well as collecting model cars (See photographs). 

They love American cars, so their cars are American and parked in front of the B&B as if on display. 

The car's number plate includes "USA" . 

I felt their intention that they live countryside, although it is quite different from others who live in countryside.

There is a file about them in our room which shows us their careers and the B&B's history. 

I felt their self confidence. 

I like it.
